Wonderful experience with Jim at Herb Gordon! Cannot recommend enough, such a pleasant car-buying experience! Having purchased a Subaru from another dealer in the area and having a horrible experience, we were wary of the car buying experience all together. Jim and his team did an amazing job! I showed up early on a Wednesday to get a 12,000-mile check up... I learned that it normally takes 1.5 hours, to which I said I would have to just do the minimal (oil change) due to my time constraints. Vitaliy Khlebnikov was my service consultant and assured me it could be done under an hour. And it was done in 45 minutes! I was able to get everything squared away AND get to work on time. When I think about other places where I've literally left my car for 6-8 hours... and stuff isn't even started, it makes me wonder why I ever even bothered with those organizations. Herb Gordon is fast, quick, good... and nice/chill people. Will definitely keep coming back.

Long story short, Herb Gordon Subaru corrected all the problems that Wilkins Subaru caused during an engine rebuild (see my Wilkins review for the full story). They found problems that I could feel with my car, no check engine light needed! I told them how it felt and they checked my car for specific problems that might be causing my issues. They found some major problems, caused by Wilkins, corrected them, and now my car is operating as it should be. My service advisor, Bob Thompson, kept me informed with updates on my car, was receptive to my concerns, and very friendly. He was everything you would want in a service advisor. He was on top of my issue and pressed to have my issues resolved and repaired at Herb Gordon, even though they were not to the ones who caused any of them. I had a great experience and would definitely come back again. I only wish I had the techs (Tech 5988 on the work order) name that found all the problems so I could them credit as well.Thank you Bob and all the people at HGS for the wonderful and friendly service!

I just bought a new 2017 Subaru Legacy 3.6 from Herb Gordon Subaru, and what a great experience, what a great price, what a great car! I first communicated via email with Diego Munizaga, and he worked with me via phone and email to find the car I wanted locally, set up 0% financing, and set a price that was fair (and very close to what I wanted). When I went in to finalize the deal, true to his word, there was no pressure to upsell me. It was a great experience, start to finish. I'm happy. Never been able to say that before about buying a car!Repair-wise, I'll speak to my experience with my 2010 Impreza - other than standard servicing like oil changes, tires and brake pads, nothing needed repair or replacement in 6 years. Not bad!

Buying my new Subaru from Herb Gordon was by far the best experience I've ever had purchasing a vehicle. I wasn't sure which vehicle I was looking for but started off checking out the Subaru Forester and then Toyotas and Hyundais. The Forester was far superior in my comparison and Herb Gordon a dream to deal with. Jim Boratenski was the "model" salesperson. I told him I was just doing my due diligence to find the vehicle that best suited my needs. He fully understood...I test drove the Forester and he just said to please let him know if he could assist me or answer any questions. I did my research and Jim gave me the best price right off the bat. I worked with Marc Dorfman to finance and he was great as well.Bottom line.... you can't go wrong!!!!

I have received countless emails and mails and phone calls about how I am due for service on my 2015 Subaru. However, I have called the dealership (HERB GORDON SUBARU IN Silver Spring, MD) several times in the last 2 days, selected the service option and not been able to get through to a service desk. Bizarre things have happened - I was asked who my service "advisor" is - never heard of such a thing. Then I was put on hold and answered by someone's voice mail where I left a message with my name and phone number and never heard back. Then the next day I selected service again - was answered by an unidentified entity which immediately turned into loud, jarring music - as I continued to shout "Hello! Hello."Then back to the main line I told the person - please get me a service rep , I've had all these problems when I wait for them to pick up. And she said "well all I can do is put you through to service "so I said. Well - that doesn't work - so put me through to Sales (Option 1.) (My thoughts were that if they wanted to sell me a car a human being might actually pick up the phone.) She agreed, then put me through where I was met not with a person - but more waiting. At which point I hung up. I guess this business doesn't do phones - and I don't see an automated appointment app, so I'll just have to drive there in person. But not before checking out other options for service.Oh - and by the way - their recording says "This call may be monitored for quality." Very funny, don't you think?

I initially wanted to buy WRX from another dealer because it was a lot cheaper than Herb Gordon but I ended up buying a Legacy from Herb Gordon in Silver Spring, MD at a reasonable price. I had a pleasure experience with Jim Boratenski for 3-4 weeks of emailing each other. He made everything so easy when I showed up at the dealer to sign.The only reason why I decided to write a review is because I truly had a great experience with them. There was no intimidating or condescending personality that I found from other dealers. I haven't had a chance to experience their service department yet but I am looking forward to it. *This dealership is one of the first ones to try 'Giving the actual License Plate on the spot', meaning no reason to wait for 3-4 weeks to receive your license plate.

My wife and I purchased two Subarus, a Forster and a CrossTrek in the last 9 months from Herb Gordon. Of the five new cars I've purchased in my life, these were by far the most pleasant, and most painless, purchase experiences. We worked with Jim Boratenski on our first purchase (the Forester), and were so pleased with the experience so much that we contacted him directly to help us with our second purchase (the CrossTrek). In addition to his detailed knowledge about the various Subaru models, we really appreciated Jim's laid-back, no-pressure approach to helping us. He was truly interested in helping us find the vehicles that best met our requirements, with no pressure at all to upsell things we didn't want or need. I highly recommend working with Jim. We've been back twice so far for regular maintenance and to install some options, and the service department is outstanding. Each time they've started the work on time and completed it faster than estimated. Ken Hanscom is great to work with - he takes care of you and gets the work down asap. The waiting are is nice and clean, and the people are all so friendly and respectful, it's hard to believe you're at a dealer.As long as Herb Gordon keeps treating us this well, we will keep coming back.

Buying a car doesn't have to be tedious and that's what this dealership is all about. Right from the first email, you already get a good and honest quotation. The follow-ups were just right and I didn't feel any pressure as a buyer. When you step inside the dealership, the ambiance is outstanding. Staff is friendly and helpful. I have yet to try any of their services but I can already tell it will be good. This was our 2nd time buying a car and we had a far better experience with this dealership compared to the previous one. The car sales expert assigned to us was Cory Hymas. Negotiations are part of car buying and he did his part really well! I was able to negotiate for a lower price from his original quotation and came out satisfied with the deal. I think as buyers there's always that hope to be able to bring the price down even further but we have to be realistic too and just do your research. We actually went to another dealer just so that we could compare prices but ultimately ended up back with Cory's offer - plus the fact that I felt more comfortable closing the deal with him. Overall, I would recommend this dealership if you're looking for a car. In fact, look for a Subaru. Consumer Reports 2016 ranked Subaru #2 as most reliable car brand (first place goes to Audi).

The Costco auto buying program paired me with Herb Gordon for my new Subaru Crosstrek, and I am so very glad it did. Salesman Gary Grace emailed me the same day with a detailed price quote at significant savings. Then, he found the exact Crosstrek (trim, color, options) I was looking for at another dealership and arranged to have it transported to Herb Gordon. When I arrived at the dealership, Gary had all the paperwork ready and we sat right down and got to work. Herb Gordon gave me exactly what I asked for on my trade-in (granted, what I asked for was well within the range of KBB values for a used car sold to a dealership, but the ease and speed of finalizing the trade-in price was truly a welcome surprise). Financing was a breeze, handled by Bryan Liddiard. Like every dealership on the planet, Herb Gordon tried to sell me on an extended warranty and several other programs. Unlike other dealerships, there was no hard sell, and when I said 'no' that was the end of it. My answer was accepted graciously and with a smile. Before I left, Gary had a technician sit with me in the car to show me how everything works.Gary and the entire Herb Gordon team treated me with the utmost respect and cordiality. And I was out the door in my new Crosstrek in 2 hours flat. If you are in the DC/MD/VA area and want to buy a Subaru without headaches, heartburn, or indigestion, go to Herb Gordon.

Since purchasing my car two years ago from (Jim)James Boratenski, I have been thoroughly impressed by the courteous friendly service and attention to the needs of this customer. I'm a woman in my 60s who has often experienced borderline rudeness, dismissiveness and poor service by car dealerships and mechanics in my past. That is most certainly not the case with the team at Herb Gordon Subaru. From the very beginning when I purchased my car from Jim Boratenski he took the time to find out what I was looking for and then showed me in detail how the new electronics worked. He was lovely and when he's seen me there for service, he's said 'hello.'Over on the service side they are scrupulously clean and organized. They have Wi-Fi, donuts, coffee and shopping bags. Okay, the real reason to be there is for the exemplary service. Most of the time I have worked with Ken Hanscom, the Assistant Service Manager. As I mentioned previously my past experience with car people has been a complete let down. I've quite frankly felt used and taken advantage of. That is not at all the case with the Herb Gordon Subaru team. The service team, but most especially Ken Hanscom, has been respectful, helpful and wonderful with their service.Recently I scheduled the 15,000 mile service, but somehow I missed the allotted time. They called. I was embarrassed for messing up, but they told me to come on down. I got there over an hour late. They took the car anyway and told me that it would take about three hours before they could finished it. I asked if they could drive me home. Because I messed up, they didn't have anyone free to do that. I told them not to worry as it was my fault. I would wait. Fancy my surprise that Ken Hanscom walked up to me about an hour later to tell me that my car was done. I couldn't believe it. My car had been beautifully serviced, washed and appeared vacuumed. I am so grateful that my business is honestly appreciated. I never want to go anywhere else. Thank you Herb Gordon Subaru for a superlative team in an extraordinary facility.

The team at Herb Gordon Subaru really goes the extra mile to help their customers!! I bought my car from them in 2009 and from then on, the entire dealership has made my day! The purchase went smooth and easy. But its the long term commitment that really makes the difference.Typically maintaining a car appropriately is a chore but not with the team there. Vitaliy is my service agent and he always makes sure that I get the same mechanic. Frank has always worked on my car and knows everything there is about its upkeep, maintenance, and most importantly, how we operate. Between Vitaliy and Frank, I know I am in perfect hands! Spoke to James Boratenski on the telephone after my current and long time auto dealer in Gaithersburg had finally gotten the best of me and more importantly my wife who was now in the market for a new car. Thanks to Jim's friendliness, product kbowledge, and enthusiasm, we got exactly what my wife requested, which we had been told was not an option at my previous dealer. We prefer to drive to see Jim and the team here 45 min vs 17 min to the other for many reasons but more importantly thanks to Jim's attention and commitment to the customer ! There may be thousands of dealers but ask yourself if you remember your sales team including sales managers etc for a good reason, ask yourself if your service advisor is polite and curtious, knowledgable, and does his best to be sensitive to your time and schedule. Superb service from the Herb Gordon Subaru service team, especially by Ken Hanscom. I purchased our 2016 Outback in New Hampshire and we had just recently moved to Laurel. Unfortunately, my window, on the lower drive side had a crack and spidered. I came into Herb Gordon and Ken, along with Greg Edwards took pictures of the windshield and sent them off to Subaru of America regional rep and got the windshield covered 100% under Good Will. I was very impressed on how well Ken and his team took care of me and my Outback and even provided me with a loner vehicle for the day. I was extremely pleased with their professionalism and superior service. I would highly recommend their service to friends and family.

I started using Herb Gordon's Mile One Subaru for service in 2002 for my 2 Subarus that I had purchased at other dealerships. The service team lead by Mr. Hanscom has always done their upmost to treat me well. From routine maintenance to repairs, they have done an outstanding job. They take the time to always explain things. The one thing that really stands out is when I called and said "Ken, the check engine light just came on. I've just left for vacation with the wife, kid, and two dogs!" After a few questions, he told me to drive straight over. (with wife, kid, dogs, and luggage!) As I pulled in, I was met at the door, and a quick diagnosis performed. It was nothing major, the computer reset, and we were on our way in ten minutes. In 2008 I bought another Subaru; this time from them, buying it was a pleasant experience and it's now my daughter's car. Having used other dealers, I highly value the outstanding customer service and relationship I have with Mr. Hanscom and Herb Gordon Subaru.

Easy to make appointment over the web. Our service representative, Ken Hansom, was ready for me on arrival and counseled me on appropriate service and discounts. While waiting in the comfortable customer area, coffee and doughnuts were available. Additional items identified for service during the planned tasks were explained and I approved them. Ken Hancsom is always accommodating in emergencies and incredibly friendly, as is all the staff at Herb Gordon Subaru. I am always on alert when it comes to mechanics and dealers who aren't too trustworthy, but I never feel those worries here. I take my car for oil changes and every repair needed and I'm always happy.

As I drive past several dealert to have my Subaru Forester serviced exclusively at Herb Gordon Subaru, I think about why I go out of my way. It's always the same answer: Ken Hanscom! I TRUST Ken. In the years he has managed the service of my cars. I KNOW that the work done has needed to be done. I am CONFIDENT that my car is road ready because he is attending to it and my safety as if I were a member of his family. My sales agent Nichlolas Boratenski, who is a Subaru Certified Consultant with Herb Gordon Subaru, was very informative and he was able to get me the vehicle and options that I wanted. I brought a 2016 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium w/All-Weather Pkg + EyeSight and Nicholas Boratenski was able to give me the best price . He did not try to pressure me to buy this car like other car dealerships. The price quoted from Nicholas Boratenski was the lowest quote of the others that I received . He was very knowledgeable about the availability of the car but did not push me to buy things I did not want. He patiently answered all my questions, very professional and friendly. When we took delivery of the vehicle, he spent the time to go over all the features and functions and explained everything in great detail. He also installed the option equipment which is the back cargo cover for us. I would highly recommend Nicholas Boratenski. I would rate him with an "Excellent Rating" and give him a 5-star rating with a promotion.

I had a great experience working with this dealership. First and foremost, I appreciate the very limited haggling that was needed. I worked through the TrueCar buying service, and the price quoted from Herb Gordon was the lowest quote of the three that I received. The price I ultimately paid was a bit lower than that quote. The salesman I worked with, John Sessoms, was very knowledgeable about the available options, but he did not push me to buy things I did not want. He patiently answered all questions, followed up as scheduled, and was very professional and friendly throughout the whole experience. I give a huge thumbs up for John! About the dealership as a whole: I greatly appreciate that they let you test drive on your own. There's plenty of time to discuss the car with the salesperson outside of the test drive, so I was pleasantly surprised to be able to drive the car without instructions, a set driving course, etc. My only minor point worth noting about the dealership is that there is some pressure to add on warranties as part of the buying process. It would be a good idea to get info from your salesperson before the day of signing, and then do some research about the Subaru warranties. I have a sense that the people in the Business Office who walk you through the signing get big time commissions on these warranties. This might be pretty consistently the case at various dealerships, so I am still giving five stars. Overall, the signing process was relatively quick and painless.

Our salesperson, Jim Boratenski, was responsive to our questions and entered our request for factory assembly and delivery. He was very efficient in his introduction to the vehicle and followed a script faithfully that covered all the features of the car. When additional features were added, he and Ken Hanson arranged for a follow-up visit to install them. The sales writer, Diego, acted quickly and responsively to make a long experience more acceptable.

The plastic shield by my front tire on my Legacy wagon had come loose and was hanging down and hitting the ground when I drove. I called Subaru and was told I could come in that same day to get it fixed. When I arrived, Ken Hanscom, a friendly service manager I often deal with there, looked at the car. He told me it would be about an hour before it was repaired. However, I was pleasantly surprised when it was ready after only a half hour. Furthermore, Ken told me there would be no charge! I really appreciated the quick and no-charge service. Before coming to Herb Gordon Subaru I had taken my vehicle to another local Subaru dealer. I always had problems there with appointments and with unfriendly service. I am happier since I changed to Herb Gordon. Always reliable service here!

We bought a 2016 Subaru Forester. My wife spoke to Lakshman on the phone and he was able to give us the best price from all the dealerships that we had contacted. When we got there, Lakshman was very polite and professional. He did not try to sell us anything additional and he took time to explain all our questions. I bought my daughter a Subaru Crosstrek. We knew exactly what we wanted and what we wanted to pay. Herb Gordon Subaru and James Boratenski delivered on both perfectly. We had to drive 1 1/2 hr to pickup the car. All the paperwork was prepared for us ahead of time and we showed up, spent 30minutes on paperwork and received the keys to the car. My wife and I recently bought a new 2015 Subaru Outback. What we wanted was not in stock so we had to order it. This is the first car I've EVER bought, and I've bought a lot in my years, where there was absolutely NO hassle whatsoever. Our sales representative Sue Ireland was just about the most low key sales person I've ever met. She was polite and patient with my wife and I as we laid out exactly what options we wanted. Sue was knowledgeable of the options of the Outback and thoroughly answered all of our questions. She even made a couple recommendations that we ended up going with. Sue emailed us as our car went through the process of being ordered, being built, and being delivered. When we picked it up she went over just about everything we needed to know and when we drove away we felt we had a good start on knowing everything. We knew we wanted a Subaru Outback and went to Herb Gordon based on the recommendation of a teacher my wife works with. We asked for a particular sales person only to find out he had recently retired and Sue was hired to replace him. How lucky can you get?. Herb Gordon, and in particular Sue Ireland, restored my faith in car dealers and car salesmen (saleswomen). This was the best car buying experience I have ever had and would highly recommend Herb Gordon and Sue Ireland if you are interested in purchasing a Subaru.

Staff was super courteous and accommodating, and above-all, honest. I was given an initial quote that included a mistake on the calculation of sales-tax. In the end, the dealer gave me the original, lower amount originally quoted and noted it as their mistake. I've never been to a dealership that was willing to eat cost just for the sake of honesty and reputation.Additionally, the sales associate worked with me for a little less than a month in locating, redirecting, and ultimately delivering the exact car that I was looking for.Excellent.

Before buying a Subaru, we test drove Hondas, Nissans, and Fords. Though what one can decide from a test drive is somewhat limited, I liked the feel of the Subaru best. The sales representative at Subaru did not use high-pressure sales tactics, but answered every question we raised in a professional manner, and reviewed the comparative options available on the three classes of Legacies, as well as options in which we were interested. The finance manager was friendly and explained the cost of all options, giving his opinion of the value of each option, making our choice of options easier. Overall, the quality of the buying experience at Herb Gordon Subaru exceeded that of any of the dealers with whom we met.

I had been experiencing a recurring problem with my Tribeca and on the second visit was told to correct the problem that was in the transmission would cost me $1900. I had just paid $300 for new transmission fluid. Well the car wouldn't start again 3 later. It in the next morning and Ken Hanscom was on duty thankfully. He determined that my car did not have the miles on it to have this problem most cars would have over 200K miles. And I always service my vehicle with the dealership. He said he would talk to his manager. They both then got on the phone with HQ. Imagine my relief when Ken called and said that Subaru would cover costs because the transmission issue should not happen to a low mileage car! Thank you Ken, you have made me a loyal Subaru customer!

I visited the dealership on a very busy Saturday and all salespersons were extremely busy. The one person I did interrupt told me they had no Subaru Outbacks on the lot or in the showroom. I prepared to leave, but wandered in the direction of the service department to observe the atmosphere and staff for future reference in case I made a purchase in the future.It was then I met Ken Hanscom who gave me a great deal of information about the vehicle I was interested in. He made a loaner available for me to sit in and get an idea of the features of the Outback. I had had a severe accident two weeks before and had been told that the Subaru has a wonderful safety record. I feel that Ken sold me on that vehicle choice that day. I purchased the car at another dealership, but commit my service needs to Ken Hanscom and his staff. ??

I am indebted to Ken Hanscom at Herb Gordon Suburu. He has helped me take care of my 2000 Outback for over 10 years. I currently have 150,700 miles on it. As an example last night I had trouble while I was driving. At 5:15 pm I called and talked to Ken. I told him what was going on (it smelled like something was burning) and he told me to get to my office (which was nearby) and park the car and have it towed to him. He wanted to make sure I was in a safe place. He told me that he did not think it was safe to drive it. I followed his instructions, and my car is repaired and home today. It was a good thing I didn't try to drive it any further. This is not the first time he has been helpful to me over the phone as well as in person. I am extremely grateful to Ken and to Herb Gordon Suburu mechanics for the excellent service I have received over all these years. I plan to buy a Suburu for my next car and hope to have Ken Hanscom be in charge of helping me with service for it as well. Thank you for your help all these years.

We were going to buy Subaru Forrester at Fitzgerald. We had bought our Prius from them many years ago. And we have never had an issue with service ever in last over 9 years. We were just looking else where to compare and got caught in to small perks (resort season promotion- now I am not sure if it is real or scam). We were given very good service until we bought the car. We ended up paying way more by taking other add ons. It took about an hour to simply drop off the car. I am really disappointed int heir after sales services. It is not even one week since we bought the car.

Buying my new Subaru Forester 2014 at Herb Gordon Subaru in Silver Spring was a hassle-free and most unstressful experience. Gary Grace who sold the car to me was most helpful and knowledgeable, with a good sense of humor too. He answered my every question patiently and his responses gave me a feeling of reassurance. When I returned a few days later to deliver the spare keys of my old Subaru Forester 1999 that I traded in, the manager Michael Roy was also most helpful. When I asked about a rattling sound (which turned out to be my loose coins), he drove around the circle right away, and explained the "problem" to me (I removed my coins and the noise was gone). I was thoroughly pleased this buying experience, and I enjoy my new car very much. I know I will be back here for my service. Overall an excellent dealership.

We recently bought a new Subaru Impreza at Herb Gordon Subaru. The whole process from initial review of options through the purchasing process was conducted in a friendly and low pressure environment. Determining price was straightforward, they gave me a great price up front without having to negotiate. Financing was done with information about the optional coverage but without pressure. They even exchanged a car in their inventory with another local dealer so we could get exactly the color that we wanted. This was the second car that we bought from this dealer although the first was 10 years ago. The sales experience in both cases was top notch.

I am writing about my experience with the service department at Herb Gordon Subaru at Briggs Chaney Autopark in Silver Spring. I am a single woman in my 50s. I purchased my new Subaru Forester there in 2010, and take it in for routine service. I have never felt patronized or uncomfortable in the service department. The facilities are nice (they moved in 2011 or 2012 to their current, new location), clean, well appointed, comfortable. The staff (Mike Senior, Mike Junior ane Ken) are genuinely nice people. It probably helps that this is a good product, so they probably have mostly satisfied customers, but in the hours that I have sat in the service room waiting area over the last three years, I have heard them deal with all kinds of customer situations, and these are good people who treat customers the same way they would want a family member to be treated. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the dealership.

Horrible Horrible Dealership. I had the displeasure of getting Charles Bulow as my salesman. He spent the entire time bragging about how he's worked here for 12 years and that this dealership has a policy of being straight with the customer. Was not willing to let me test drive a manual because I said I don't usually drive it. Spent about an hour talking about how they don't negotiate on price and saying that his price was the best even though it was at least 2 grand overpriced (I know because I got a way better deal somewhere else). At the end after wasting my time, he didn't even wanna give me his price statements just to compare with other dealers because he "Didn't wanna do other people's jobs for them." Absolute piece of trash employee, should be fired immediately. I don't know if he represents Herb Gordon as a whole, but they sure lost a customer because I actually bought the car from somewhere else all because of Charles Bulow.I recommend Fitzgerald Subaru in Gaithersburg. Ask for Kevin Engle or John Dutton, they'll give you a good deal.

I walked into Herb Gordon Subaru last week to test drive 3 different vehicles and met with Rich Cross who was knowledgeable, helpful and did not pressure me at all to buy that day. There was a confidence about the product selling itself. He was very straightforward about the MSRP, Invoice price and what the dealer could offer below invoice (did not expect this!). He and his finance manager broke down the total cost, APR financing and monthly payments to help me make a better educated decision. I told Rich I would get back to him in a few days while I mulled everything over. I emailed Rich a few days later to let him know that I wanted to move ahead with the 2014 Forrester. I put a security deposit down to reserve the car, completed the finance application online and went in today and faced the most seamless, pressure-free, car buying experience! I was sincerely impressed with him. He was polite, never pushy, helpful, friendly, and easy going - not what you get at most dealerships in the sales department! I feel that I got an absolutely great price for my new car, a very fair trade in value for my Subaru Forester, and it was so quick and painless than I almost felt guilty leaving the showroom so early with my brand new car :) The process for getting a new car at Herb Gordon Subaru is very streamlined. Most other dealerships I have ever been to do a super high pressure sales jobs on a customer, but here I felt more like part of a big happy family. As a woman, this has meant a lot to me because I have had terrible experiences with other non-Subaru car dealerships for other cars I have had in the past and they tend to belittle women, not explain things when asked or emotionally/mentally run you over. But not here. From day one I have felt comfortable in getting my car serviced by them, so much so that I decided to get my new car through them.I can't believe I have a new Subaru Outback! I really loved my Subaru 2000 Forester but it was time.I would also like to say that Dave in their finance department was awesome too. He got me through the paperwork in record time. I feel that he led me through the maze of final options easily and got me the final options that were right for me like the extended warranty, maintenance, and environmental packages (I tend to hold onto my Subaru's for a long time).Also I would like to say that after going to this dealership for 13 years with my Subaru Forester that I would very highly recommend their Service Department, and in particular Ken Hanscom. He has never once led me the wrong way on any repair with my car and has always told me things straight up. He has given me already 13 years of great service. Example: I once had a squirrel eat the wiring in my engine and leave me some acorns in the the engine area as a reminder present. It took about 3 weeks to get the new wiring in only because it had to come all the way from Japan literally about two weeks after that major Tsunami hit Japan. He gave me a loaner car (free of charge) until the wiring came in and was installed. What could have been a traumatic experience at most dealerships was an awesome one at Herb Gordon Subaru. I am hooked to their service and I am looking forward to my next dozen plus years with them. By the way, if you have to get your car in for it's service, you can also make use of their convenient shuttle that takes you to the Silver Spring metro station or to your home/office in the morning and then later get the shuttle on your way back to the dealership in the evening.I couldn't recommend this dealership more highly all the way around.

Mr. Sukar first saw me on New Year's Eve, when he answered all my questions about the 2013 Subaru Impreza. I was impressed that he was so friendly and helpful, without being the "overbearing car salesman" one hears so much about. I had very particular request for a new Subaru Impreza (model, price, features and color). I've been coming to Herb Gordon for nearly 20 years - first with my Dodge, and now with my last two Subarus. Even though it's a bit of a drive for me (I live less than two miles from a different Subaru Dealer) I keep coming back for all my service needs. It's not about the coffee and donuts - although those are nice perks while waiting for my car to be serviced - it's really about the fact that all the service members, and Ken especially, listen to my concerns and do their best to explain any problems or work required and be honest and upfront about it. They've not once tried to upsell or talk me into unnecessary repairs, which constantly happens at other dealers. True, they are more expensive than independent shops, but they do the work right the first time, they stand behind what they do, and they really do look out for the customer. I can't recommend them enough.

Dropped off 2005 Outback to fix a leaking power steering pump. Asked for an estimate to replace a torn inner booth and a timing belt replacement. Car has aproximately 58K miles. Ken called back and informed me that power steering pump was bad, both inner booths were torn, both front control arm bushings were cracked and torn, and provided estimates to replace these and the timing belt. Total was $2K+ and gave Ken the go ahead and do the work. Picked car up after work and when driving home noticed that Maintenance Light is on (which was not on when I dropped car off). Took time off from work to take car back next day and was told that an oxygen sensor was bad and that it would be replaced at no cost. When car was ready and with a little caution I opened the hood to find a tool that was left behind. Makes me wonder if car was test driven after work was done. Tool left under hood is unacceptable.

My family went shopping for a new car with two toddlers in tow and were looking for a dealership with customer service. Herb Gordon definitely delivered. Jason, our Sales Consultant, was superb. He was respectful of our time, knew the cars inside and out, and was good with the kids. The dealership bent over backwards to make sure we where happy and satisfied customers. Their level of service is not normally found while car shopping. Their facilities were clean and kid friendly, with a great little playroom. I decided to visit this dealership after reading various great reviews. One name that kept popping up was "Lakshman Sukar" so I was hoping that I would be able to communicate with him. I sent an online request for more info about the vehicle and Lakshman emailed me back right away.When I visited the dealership, Lakshman was extremely helpful and surprisingly knowledgeable in Subarus. I asked some questions that I knew the answers to, as a test that I do at all dealerships, and he got everything right and then he taught me some things that I didn't know about. Needless to say, he passed with flying colors.At no point, did I feel any kind of pressure to buy (like you hear from typical car dealership horror stories). He even gave me a very fair initial offer. Prior to visiting the dealership, I did tons of research and even got a "target" price. His initial offer was below the said target price. I was a bit dumbfounded, as I was expecting to fight for that number. Regardless, they were still willing to negotiate and I got a great deal in the end.During the purchasing process, I needed to send some documents to my insurance agent, and he was very willing to help me achieve that. Lakshman let me use his computer and printer, without any hesitation. I really appreciated his willingness to help me.Long story short, I would not hesitate to send my family/friends over to Herb Gordon for a new vehicle purchase.

My experience with this dealership was beyond what I could have expected. After visiting a few dealers in the area, I found a vehicle that I wanted to purchase. I called this dealer and visited another to get some price quotes. This dealer was able to beat the other by about $1500. I could not believe the difference. Not only was the price wonderful, all of the people that I dealt with from each department were awesome. I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful and always professional and courteous.When I went there to buy my 2nd Forester I dealt with Laksman. He was invariably pleasant and friendly and very knowledgeable. I found it a pleasure to work with him and he was able to answer promptly any questions that I had. I would recommend him to any friends who might be looking for a Subaru.I also found that dealing with the Finance Department a pleasant experience. Matt Diorio was courteous and friendly and answered my questions promptly and completely. Even though financing can be a tense moment it was not.I have one suggestion and it is about financing. There are various additional services that can be ordered and they are brought up when you sit down to discusss the financing. That is not the best time and it leaves the customer to make a lot of expensive decisions at the moment that he might already be over-whelmed with what he is purchasing. I suggest that it might be more helpful to all concerned to present these options to the buyer a week or two before the delivery of the car thus giving him time to consider them. I know that now, as I think of them, there are one or two that I might have been interested in buying but at the time I was not focusing on them.This is only a suggestion and no reflection on Matt who took the time to explain them to me but I coudln't really concentrate on them. This might be me and maybe others are better at this moment in the car buying process.I will recommend Herb Gordon to my friends who are looking for a car.Jerry Barrett

From the minute I walked in the door I was treated like I was Lakshman Sukar's favorite customer. He was courteous,attentive and friendly. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the vehicle I was interested in. Lakshman understood I was going to test drive a few different cars before making a decision and it may take a couple of days to accomplish this. He called me to follow up the next day, and sent me a letter thanking me for looking at Subaru. My husband and I went back on a Saturday late afternoon to drive the Outback I was looking at again. No problem and they even appraised my trade-in while we were test driving the car. I think the price of the new car as well as the trade in was very fair. We returned after the weekend and purchased a new car from Herb Gordon Subaru and both Lakshman and Brian took their time to explain everything about the vehicle and the financing. Both my husband and I agreed that no one has ever taken the time to get in the car after we signed the paperwork, and explain all the features of this car again to make sure all our questions were answered. Lakshman Sukar is the best and I would highly recommend anyone looking for a Subaru to visit Herb Gordon and see Lakshman.

When I first arrived at the Herb Gordon dealership, I was not quite sure what type of vehicle I wished to purchase. Subaru was one of 5 manufacturers and 11 models that I considered. I met Chris Stauffer who was very helpful in showing me and letting me test drive 2 Subaru models. I really appreciated his knowledge, friendliness, and professionalism. After visiting all the dealerships that interested me, my choice was reduced to 5 models, including the Subaru Forester. Since gas mileage was an issue for me, Chris pointed out that the Forester optionally was manufactured with standard transmission. When I test drove the standard transmission, I felt that I found my match. I considered all my possibilities and decided that ordering my vehicle, rather than purchasing off the lot was my best choice. I made an offer that I thought was a very nice price for me, and it was accepted without drama. The ordering of the car was not an issue, and I drove my car away about 4 weeks after I ordered it. The financing was remarkable (o% for 3 years), and I concluded the most pleasant purchase (I've purchased 5 vehicles in my lifetime) that I've ever had. I am one happy camper, literally and figuratively!

Lakshman Sukar and Dave Melson were terrific - both in person and then on the telephone when we called with follow-up questions after our test drive. Since this was our first Subaru purchase, we wanted to shop any price quote hard and also, to find out which dealership would be best for service and/or any future potential vehicle issue. After going to numerous dealerships in the MD, VA, DC area, not only was Herb Gordon Subaru's quote the lowest, they hands down provided the better service and consistent friendliness. Dave Melson was especially impressive and helpful - that man knows Subarus! Our advice to anyone in the market for a Subaru - go to Herb Gordon Subaru first and save yourself time and money. Tried to buy a car here but could not get anyone to return my calls after the initial visit (they didn't have one in stock with the colors/options I wanted). Expected to hear from them soon about progress finding the trim/color I wanted, but didn't hear anything. Tried calling, but found it VERY hard to get the sales people on the phone. Left many messages, all went unanswered. When I did manage to get them on the phone, they'd say they were working on it and would call me with news but then didn't. After getting the run-around for 3 weeks I went to another dealership and they got me the trim/color/options I wanted in less than a week!

You hear horror stories about buying a new car, but I couldn't be happier with my experience at Herb Gordon. It started the first day talking to Jason who made a very fair and transparent offer to my fiancee and I on our new Impreza Sport Limited. They didn't have one on the lot yet so Jason's colleague John let us look all over his personal car. Jason followed up while the car was on order and then when we took delivery this week Jason and Michael (with a severely injured hand) stayed very late to help us attach a bike rack and walk us through all of the car's features (bluetooth setup, etc.). Finance manager Matt Diorio stayed late as well and saved us a half a point on the financing. Herb Gordon isn't the closest Subaru dealer to our home, but it's totally worth the trip.

A fair and pleasant new car purchase. Jason was helpful and responsive over the course of a month of phone calls and emails. When Subaru of America issued a stop ship order that delayed my car's delivery until I was out of the country, Jason arranged to hold the car until I got back even though I had not completed the purchase. He spent an hour personally going over the car's controls and setting up the Bluetooth links. Bryan's presentation of a dealer financing offer was fair, nothing deceptive as often happens.

I purchased a 2008 Subaru WRX STI, from a dealership other than Herb Gordon. With in the first few months of ownership I had a simple mechanical issues with my STI. I asked the other dealership to assist me with the problem and I was literally left out to dry! I told a friend of mine about the issue I had, and he said I should see Michael at Herb Gordon Subaru in Silverspring. I told him that I was closer to another Subaru dealer in Annapolis but he insisted that I go to Michael! After one visit I was sold, and not because of the one problem I had was fixed. The professional interaction, accurate knowledge that he had of my car, and the calm/easy going nature he had with the situation had me sold on where I will take my Subaru now & and forever! After three years of solid service and repairs I sold my wifes 2009 Honda Odyessy Touring and purchased a 2011 Subaru Outback Limited. The service team of Michael senior/junior, Ken, & Vitaliy was enough to convince me that I didn't want to have any other vehicle other than a Subaru! If you want a trustworthy place for your service take your Subie to them, and you will not be disappointed!!!

Lakshman is awesome. I really don't know how he sells cars. He just talk to you like a buddy and when it's time to talk about the car, he knows everything you want to know. Following through is one of his strong point. He just calls and ask you if you needed anything from him. Anything you ask him to ask the sales manager, he will instead of saying "if i ask him, will you buy it today?" and other crap other salesman seem to say. Lakshman is truly a friend first and foremost.

He gave me lots of information about the cars and the dealership. When I went back for a couple of extras that had to be ordered, he had them within two days and got them installed pronto.

I do not like the car buying routine but Mr. Sukar made it as stress free as I believe it can be. It was one of the better experiences I have ever had purchasing a vehicle. he worked with me to get a price that I believe is fair without ever applying pressure. He worked with me after the purchase to make sure I was satisfied and that all accessories not currently on the car at the time of purchase were ordered and contacted me as soon as they arrived, less than a week.Even though this was a new car purchase, I rated quality or work. I don't believe that quality of work only applies to repair or service work. Mr. Sukar displayed a truly professional demeanor. The best way to sum up my experience is pleasant. Usually not a word associated with car buying. I sent in a request for information late Sunday night and by 11am Monday I had and email from John. Bryan worked the numbers for me and got me in a car with the down payment I could handle. Both were very friendly and eager to help and answer any questions I had. I never felt like I was a bother to them. There was also never any pressure or scare tactics used to up sell me on anything. I have been to a few different dealerships and this by far was the easiest, nicest, and comfortable experience I have had. Anybody looking for a Subaru should make Herb Gordon their first stop. I already have plans to go back in 2 years and buy another new car from them.

After searching pretty much the entire east coast to find my car, I managed to blindly call Herb Gordon, and speak to Lakshman. The car that I wanted was sitting on a truck in their parking lot (Nobody else had test driven it yet!) and I was able to negotiate the price of the vehicle in under 3 minutes. There was a Shuttle arranged from the Silver Spring metro station to the dealership, and I then moved to the financing portion. Bryan was helpful explaining my options, and helped me finagle the numbers in such a way that I got a very good deal on some extras (LOJACK, etc).I purchased a 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI, and couldn't be happier.

We called him from the parking lot of a competitor and he quickly looked up a comparable vehicle as to what we had just seen and gave us a competitive price over the phone. When we went in later that day he had the vehicle already ready for us to see. He was very knowledgeable about the product and explained the nuances in feature and price differences. When it came to price, he was direct and did not give us a runaround or hassle. Jason even followed up after we purchased the vehicle to make sure we understood all of its features and to see if we had any questions. We had been driving a 1999 Subaru Forester since purchasing it as a new car. We were happy with it and reluctant to replace it. However, there was a major repair needed in 2009 and we considered replacement then. Instead, we decided on repair. Lakshman worked with us then and made no sale. Ho followed up with regular email for two years and in 2011 there was another major repair needed on our 1999 Forester. I noted a couple of things (one cosmetic and the other a console extension)I didn't like and they were fixed perfectly - for free. I was captivated by the interior and was impressed by how the car handled. I instantly became a Subaru believer!While going through the numbers, David was very straightforward and didn't haggle me in any way. It was a simple and easy process. Not much negotiation needed. They gave me a fair deal on my trade-in and were able to match with what other dealers were offering.The customer service there is top notch. More dealerships should follow what they're doing there. We walked into the dealership pretty well prepared (knew which model and trim level we wanted and had the dealership's internet price in hand) and couldn't have been happier with our experience. Jason went over the key features of the vehicle we were interested in and then got us set up with a test drive so we could see how the car performed on the road. In the last 25 years, I have purchased 6 new vehicles at different times. This is the first time I can say that I am satisfied with my car buying experience. That's why I'm going through the trouble of registering and submitting this review. The sales person I dealt with, Lakshman Sukar, was outstanding. He was knowledgeable; courteous; didn't employ any tricks; made the whole process very pleasant. I did quite a bit of research before I started shopping. I had also previously visited 2 other Subaru dealers. So I was armed with good deal of information. There was very little haggling needed over price. The price they could agree was acceptable to me. I spent much less time than I feared I would need at the dealership. The financing part of the process could have been better. It was handled by Eric. But it was OK. After the purchase, even though it was late in the evening, Lakshman drove the new vehicle for me to my residence, about 45 minutes away. I was very impressed with this Sales person and that made the whole experience a very positive one for me. I would recommend this dealer, particularly Lakshman Sukar, to anyone without any hesitation.

I have always been pleased by the friendliness of the service team at Herb Gordon. I've also been pleased with the quality of service work performed on my Subaru. What really sets them apart, however, is their ability to accommodate me on short notice and in emergencies (especially Ken Hanscome). Even something simple as: I was leaving on a trip and the wiper blade inserts had given up. I loaded the car, started my journey in the rain and pulled into Herb Gordon hopeful that they would be able to help me. Ken got me my inserts, did a quick install and I was on my way in a matter of 15 minutes. That experience, by far, surpassed going to an auto store, looking up blade inserts and inserting them myself. The whole rest of the trip in the rain, I was thankful to Herb Gordon and Ken for their ability to accommodate and be flexible with customers. Knowing that they will do their best to help me out is a great feeling.

They worked out all the details and made the process as painless as possible. They kept us informed every step of the way. I am a first-time new car buyer and I spent a few months researching the cars that I was interested in before going out to test drive the final few that made the cut (in fact, Subaru wasn't even on that list initially, but the car handling and customer service at the dealership changed my mind).I was very comfortable with my salesperson, Jason, immediately as I got the sense that he truly believed in the product. Jason was knowledgeable about all of the features of the car and was able to answer all of the questions I asked (and a few I didn't). I went to Herb Gordon first because it was the closest Subaru dealer to me. Afterwards, I went to others in the area, including FitzMall in Kensington. While pricing was close enough to be a non-issue, the service I got at Herb Gordon made all the difference. Arriving on the lot, I was greeted and asked what vehicle I was interested in. I was looking for a WRX 5-door and Jason, my salesperson recognized that I knew what I wanted and adjusted promptly, pointing out finer details and trim level differences, rather than obvious specs I could have recited to him. We were soon test driving, and Jason selected a longer route than other salespeople at the same auto mall had, allowing a better chance to get a feel for the car. Returning, he put no pressure on me to get to the table, understanding I had other shopping to do. After deciding the WRX was the car for me, I began getting online quotes from dealers in the area. Jason was as in touch as I needed, but didn't pester. Herb Gordon matched or beat every deal I got from other dealerships. Once a price was agreed upon, it was set. Additions (fabric treatment and tire insurance, ect) were offered and explained but not pushed. No silly charges were added. Once at the finance table, Eric was thoroughly helpful, and explained everything as he did it. No under the table funny business. As an aside, Eric is clearly a true Subaru enthusiast, and it showed in his interactions with me. I felt like I was not simply a customer, but a new member of the Subaru enthusiast community. I will definitely be going back to him for advice as I find ways to make my new car my own creation.Finally, when taking my car to detail, it was found that a light had been left on and the battery was drained. Instead of jumping it, and trusting it to be ok, the parts department put in a brand new battery. While obviously the right course of action, I never would have known if they had cut corners, until I got stranded somewhere.All in all, I chose to work with Herb Gordon because not only was their pricing extremely competitive, but I felt the most comfortable with their staff. Excellent customer service, low pressure, and enjoyable to work with.

He was very prompt in answering his phone and follow up was excellent. The finance person, Eric was also a pleasure to work with. Both are extremely friendly and efficient. Justine and Michael at Herb Gordon Subaru were by far the best to work with when buying our new Subaru. We ran into a lot of issues at other dealerships where the salesman told us what we wanted to hear instead of what we needed to hear. Not at Herb Gordon, Justine new everything about the car and made sure to walk us through every aspect of the vehicle before we left. Michael was fantastic to deal with price and making sure we were happy upon departure. I highly recommend, if purchasing a Subaru, you give them a chance to earn your business. I bought my 2008 Subaru Legacy from another dealership last year and it had problems from the beginning. I took it back to the dealer several times throughout the year and they replaced nearly every part but my car still didn't function properly and consistently. Finally I brought it to Herb Gordon where my brother takes his Subaru, and they fixed the problem very quickly. The employees were very friendly and kept me informed the whole time they were working on it. This dealership rocks!

I am extremely pleased with the Service Department of this dealership. I find all of the employees to be extremely professional and knowledgable about the service they offer. They are extremely friendly and go out of their way to make servicing a car a pleasure. I havebeen using this dealership since I purchased my car several years ago. A sedrvice advisor helped me out on a Friday 3 pm emergency and it has been a great experience ever since then. I highly recommend this dedalership for service and sales.

I have been shopping for a new car for months now. I thought I had it all picked out and knew exactly what I wanted in a new Honda. I stopped in to Herb Gordon Subaru on a whim and immediately impressed with how much they knew about their vehicles. Justine was extremely informative and the finance part was really easy too. Eric answered all my questions about warranties and maintenance and even showed me how valuable a service plan can be with ever-rising service costs. Over all, the people at Herb Gordon were the friendliest people I have met in a dealership and made the entire process very simple and laid-back. I have already recommended to my family to visit Herb Gordon before they buy any other vehicles because they don't just sell their cars, they love them and own them as well.

I purchased a 2009 Forester. My Sales Representative was John Ritchie. Before purchasing I had shopped several other Subaru Dealerships. The moment we were greeted I was confident we had finally found a knowledgeable and professional automotive specialist. Mr. Ritchie quickly helped me find the exact car I was looking for. The price was actually lower than I expected. Mr. Ritchie Explained that there are about 15 dealers within a 50 mile radius of Herb Gordon Subaru. Herb Gordon is the number one Volume Subaru Dealer in Maryland. Simply stated you do not achieve that distinction unless you are knowledgeable, profession and competitive. He is absolutely correct.The entire process took less then two hours. Everyone we encountered was friendly, Courteous and professional. I would definitely purchase at Herb Gordon Subaru again!I love my New Forester.

Lakshman was great to work with. The level of customer service was fantastic. It was not only Lakshman but the whole sales team helped. The car I wanted just arrived and within minutes everyone jumped into action and took the car to get the options I wanted installed. By the time I finished in the office getting my paperwork completed the car was back cleaned and a full tank of gas. What amazed me was that others not involved in my deal got involved just to help out. That is what I call great teamwork.

Prior to going to Herb Gordon Subaru, I had dealt with another local dealer and ran into a stumbling block. Exasperated, I visited Herb Gordon a couple days later to test drive a Forester XT. Knowing I was ready to make a purchase, they went out of their way to locate the exact vehicle I wanted. My salesman, John Ritchie, actually traveled to Philadelphia to personally pick-up my Forester and deliver it to the dealership. My experience when I went to pick up my new vehicle could not have been smoother. I couldn't have asked for better customer service and, though it's a bit of a hike, I anticipate returning to Herb Gordon for all of my service needs.

Herb Gordon was able to find the exact Forester I wanted, no unwanted options. The sales process was so smooth and easy. The finance department was also impressive, the lease choices were very clear. We were in and out of the dealership quickly which is always a plus when you have a 5 year old with you. I look forward to doing business with them again!

I was very impressed by the good service at Herb Gordon Subaru. My Forester was just barely over its 50,000 mile drive train warranty when the engine started to sound bad; I had previously had this same problem worked on at a different dealership in the city where I used to live. Now a major repair was called for; Ken Hanscom took the issue to Subaru, and they agreed that the repair would be covered under the warranty, even though strictly speaking they didn't have to. That spoke very well for Herb Gordon and for Suburu itself. Then a few days later I was back at Herb Gordon, because I was still hearing an odd noise; Shawn and I drove around the block and of course the noise couldn't be heard, but he took my story seriously, looked over the car and tightened up some things, and the noise is gone. Once again I was not charged. Shawn's approach was conscientious and skillful, and again Ken Hanscom was going out of his way to give excellent service.

This dealership was fantastic, what an easy experience. Michael Roy, Lakshman Sukar and Kelly Rogers-Hale were all so professional and friendly. Go games, no bizare sales tactics, and absolutely so pressure. I was made to feel so comfortable and after hearing so many horror stories of what can happen when buying a car, I was relieved that I didn't experience any of that with my sales people or while in finance. They even fed me I was so hungry. And I was in and out much quicker then I thought I would be. I would definitely recommend Herb Gordon Suburu to all my friends, actually I already have.

There were no horrible sales tactics, no pressure, no haggling back and forth just a great straight forward experience. I got the car I wanted for the price I wanted. They even fed me pizza and coffee because I hadn't eaten before I came. The process was very quick and easy from the first moment I walked in the door all the way to the finance department. And after hearing horror stories from friends at other dealerships I was relieved that my experience wasn't another horror story to tell. I would definitely recommend Herb Gordon Suburu, actually I have already told my friends all about them. And I love my car, so I'll be back again.

I called Herb Gordon Subaru on May 30 inquiring about availability of new and used Foresters for my daughter, spoke with Lakshman Sukar who was helpful, friendly without being overbearing, and informative. My wife, daughter, and her boyfriend arrived at the lot on May 31 and were immediately impressed with Lakshman's style: helpful, straightforward, informed. We test drove a used vehicle and were convinced that this was the car. The stated price was reasonable, but Lakshman coordinated a non-threatening negotiation between the sales manager and us and we quickly arrived at a final offer that was extremely satisfactory. The subsequent dealing with John Doherty to complete the paper was smooth, helpful, friendly, and efficient especially considering that a recent storm had taken the main computer system offline. The car was prepped and ready to go as soon as the paperwork was completed and Lakshman then walked my daughter around the car - inside and out - pointing out features, controls, etc. We drove off extremely pleased, satisfied, and content. Total elapsed time was 3 hours including the test drive. Extraordinary. Best auto purchase experience I've had in 35 years.

Reading and hearing stories of mistreatment of a customer by a salesmen I was nervous going to purchase my first new car on my own. I found this dealer online and it was the first place I visited.
