Alternator went bad on the road. Went to dealership, Peterson in this case, to get it fixed. They had no alternator for my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country and said it would be 3 days to get one. However, in some cases they will use Autozone but didn't like to because of inferior parts. In looking up Autozone price, prior to giving the OK to use their alternator the part cost 250.00, part number 11580. Upon receiving the bill the cost charged was 380.00! In talking with Barry in parts, who never got back to me on the initial inquiry, I had to call again, he said a 35% mark up was normal and that they charged retail price. I reminded him it came from Autozone for the retail price of 250.00. A 130.00 difference is a bit over 50% mark-up. I was quite disappointed about this event and certainly does not restore a lot of faith in dealerships.

My wife was on the road when alternator went bad. 2012 Chrysler Town and Country. The dealership had no way to get their part for three days! In some cases, I was told, they would use Autozone but considered their parts inferior. I looked at the alternator online to check availability in the area and noticed the price was 250.00 and gave my OK to use the inferior part; in came with a limited lifetime warranty so it should last a while. Well, even though I got an admitted inferior part, I was charged a premium price of 390.00!!In talking with Barry, the parts manager, he told me they charged retail. I reminded him the part came from Autozone, was inferior, and I was charged 140.00 more. I was told a 35-40% mark up was normal charge. Hello, the amount was over 50% mark-up. Very disappointed.
