I went into car buying with my dukes up because I've had bad experiences, and those bad experiences led me to believe all the stereotypes. Smart Honda was different. We dealt with Chris, the Sales Manager, and Zak, one of the salesmen, and from the beginning these people treated me with respect and had my best interest in mind. I will certainly go back.

My visit this time was a bit disappointing. I made an online appointment was for 10am. I showed up early, 9:30, as I hate to be late for anything. I was here for an oil/filter change, cab air filter change and new wiper blades. The work took until 12:05 pm. I was not given a reason why it took so long. Would have been nice to have an update. I would have asked, but my service advisor changed 3 times, so I was never really sure who to talk to. Every other experience here has been wonderful. Not sure what happened. With no explanations I am left to wonder. I am glad I didn't have to be anywhere else as I would have been late or missed it. Hopefully the next visit will be better, or I will just go somewhere else.

We did our research on Cars.com and narrowed our choice down to a new 2016 Honda Civic EX. I contacted several dealerships listed on Cars.com and asked each of them, via email, for their best price. After receiving several offers, we contaced SMART HONDA of Des Moines by email and negotiated a sale. When we went to pick up the car....the car was perfect and ready to go. I saw a vehicle listed on cars.com that I was interested in. Stopped by to look at it. I had originally intended to look at a few similar vehicles at different dealerships. Luckily I didn't need to shop around. Dave came out immediately to greet us and see what we were looking for. Took the vehicle for a drive, loved it! Filled out an application for a loan. Dave was great at keeping us informed about the process. Talked with Rob also about the loan application. We had to go home to get my recent paystub for proof of income. Got approved and we were on our way. Everyone we talked to was very nice and helpful.

Drove in and waited around for someone to acknowledge I was there. I was the only customer in the check in area but people just kept walking by like I wasn't there. Finally after 5 minutes of standing around looking stupid, someone asked if I had been helped and the check in process started. Not sure why it takes over an hour to change the oil and rotate tires when you have an appointment. I can do it at home in less than 30 minutes by myself. The service advisor was very nice once I got to talk to someone. When someone has an appointment and is waiting it shouldn't take that long

Drove 3 hours to purchase a van at Smart Honda that I found on Cars.com. When I arrived, the team was ready for me and had the van set aside. Process was easy and low pressure. Leon was the main dude I worked with and he was great. Once we agreed on a price, the buying process was quite smooth. Only complaint was that the vehicle was not fully cleaned and detailed which was disappointing. On the positive side, we found a seat missing in the van, and the team at Smart reached out to the original owners, tracked down the seat, and will be getting it to me at a later date. Overall great experience, would recommend.

My family and I stopped into Smart Honda, this past Saturday. We were just looking around at different vehicles for us being that our lease with Nissan will be coming to an end next week. We were approached by salesman Michael Crowder. We told him we weren't ready to purchase at this time. He mentioned that he wasn't there to push us, as we've had a number of bad experiences with other sales people in the past. He took the time to go over all our questions and concerns. As we started to feel more comfortable. Michael, then took us out on a test drive and mentioned that him and and his sales managers, would take care of us. We liked the fact, how comfortable he was with our jokes and made car shopping fun for us, which we haven't had that in a long time. This was the best experience we've had in a car dealership by far. With this said. Michael has made us change our minds, about buying a car and our family has decided to do so next week. Only wish there were more salesmen like him around town.

I stopped by Smart Honda dealership only to take with my wife the drive test. Lois Castillo approached us with offer to help and assist us as a representative of the company. He invited us into the model of the car we was planning to buy. It was Honda CV-R. Lois started explaining all the features of the car so me and my wife felt pretty soon that this is the car we want to buy. Later he offered to my wife test drive. And it was satisfaction because we was looking for all wheel drive car with all the gadgets we need in Iowa for driving in snow in the winter and hut summer weather. Later he introduced us to people who later worked out lowest interest of the car financing. Deal was done easy and in the day when we came to pic our car Lois spent almost 2 hours extra by showing and setting up our car in the way we want. So it was a such a good experience. Thank to dealership and their people.

He made my appointment and said it would only take 30 to 40 minutes. Cole was polite,courteous, and took care of my car issues in no time and found a nail in my tire. I was done in 30 minutes. Customer Service was great! I had an issue with a check engine light and the service department was able to fit me in last minute. While I needed to leave my car for the day, they provided a shuttle so I could get to and from work. The friendly service representative called with updates and estimates throughout the day. She answered all my questions so I could make educated decisions. When I picked it up, my bill was ready and the charges were as expected. The car had been washed and was waiting by the service door exit for my convenience. While perhaps not the fastest service in town, they were able to fix the problem.

Michael from finance did not provide an engaging experience. It took over 3 hours before we could visit with him. Multiple people were seen before us when we finalized the price before them. He advised he provided a coupon for extended warranty. Then rushed us through the last page even when we had questions. After we left and looked through the paperwork we realized we paid full price. We almost returned the vehicle. However due to Steve Fulton, our salesmen, engaging experience he provided we kept the vehicle.

I found the car that I liked. Salesman was great and friendly to work with. But when I made the deal with the sales manager he seemed like a fast talker almost fake. Do anything to kiss up to you. But the worst to come when I signed papers for the car with the finance guy seemed a bit odd. He spoke fast and wanted me to sign quickly without taking time to read things slowly and then the purchased agreement was not even close to my agreement with the sale manager. I almost backed out from the deal. But I knew I could make the payments. He then was real pushy with the warranty. I told him I didn't need it but was suckered in buying it because he made it sound cheap. He' probably makes commission from it. But it was to late because I signed all the papers already and felt binded to the contract. Next time if someone purchase a car there make sure you stand your ground and ask for the final price and interest before you sign anything. Learn my lesson.

A used Honda Oddessy Van was advertised on the Smart Honda web-site. Called and was told the van was still in stock and that we could look at it. Van was very dirty with several scratches and dents when we arrived. The managers seemed very disorganized and was unable to deal. Felt like I was the one prying to get information on the van. When pressed the manager quoted a higher price than what was listed on-line. When I showed them the price listed on their web-site which was more than a $1000 lower they were completely done dealing with us. Checked the Smart Honda web-site an hour after we left and the price was changed to what the manager had quoted. The whole visit seemed disorganized and unprofessional. .

David Symsombath, our service technician, is always very courteous and thorough in his interactions with me,and provides detailed explanations of recommended service. He and a technician spent time discussing possible causes. Their staff ended up doing a transmission computer update, plus an update for the ABS system. I bought my 2008 Honda Accord at Smart Honda in Des Moines. I was treated very well. After a year but before the 100,000 mile warranty had expired, I experienced some problems. After examining the car, it was determined that the engine had a flaw/defect in it. Honda rebuilt the engine and charged me $0 for the whole thing. All my service is done at Smart Honda, and they are always fast,courteous, fair priced, plus they offer donuts! I wouldn't trust my car to any other dealer or servicer.

I initially emailed asking about a vehicle I was interested in, I received a prompt response from Clay, he provided all of the information I requested as well as supplemental information that was very helpful. This was my 5th Honda and fourth purchase from salesman Mark Strum, and as usual he was absolutely easy to work with, especially with his no pressure attitude. In fact we completed the deal by phone as I was in Florida at the time. Clay Olson was extremely helpful explaining all the features of my new Coupe. Matt was absolutely "no pressure" when I politely declined the extended warranty. Overall it was a very positive experience, but I hope it will be a while before I have to do it again. I've twice made urgent visits to Smart Honda and greatly appreciate the attention and information shared by my service advisor, Missy Halferty. Recently I had a dead battery in my 2014 CR-V. Called Missy first thing in the morning and she gave me contact information for a jump start and reassurance that everything would be ok. With a smile in her voice, she said, "We'll know you got it started when we see you in the driveway." An hour later I pulled into the dealership where I am always greeted immediately and tests showed I needed a new battery. Since I was already there I decided to price the four new tires I had planned to get in the following month. Missy researched pricing. The top quality tire was only $5 more than the same tire at a so-called discount company - and that's the one I chose. Missy was able to arrange this unscheduled work and an hour or so later I left with new tires and new battery - both good choices since I spent a lot of time on the road. Oh yes, Scott Davis, who had sold me both my 2011 and 2013 CR-Vs, paired my day-old iPhone 6S for me before I left. All in all, a good morning thanks to the team at Smart Honda.

Purchased a used Honda Odyssey. Very good selection of inventory. Salesman was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Very satisfied with vehicle. Paperwork process was a little less pleasant. Paid cash for vehicle, so no financing involved. Extended warranty was pushed very hard and assumed we would purchase to the point of not showing final sales papers without warranty included. After reading extended warranty limitations and $100 deductible each visit, decided to cancel extended warranty. We decided on the Honda Odyssey for its highest rating for service, so hopefully will not need extended warranty. Wish that they would have not pushed the extended warranty so hard.

I recently leased a 2015 Honda Civic from Smart Honda. Salesperson was very friendly and knowledgeable about the car I was looking at leasing, and was able to provide comparisons to other comparable vehicles. Leasing option provided a great value compared to other dealerships within the area. Econoboost feature and immediate feedback on how my driving habits affected my fuel effieciency has already provided a change in my driving habits that will save me money on fuel. Civic is a small car that has a big car feel with a roomy interior and car feels solid with no noticeable road noise on highway. No buyers remorse with this choice! I have not needed their service department yet, but expecting it to perform as well as the other areas of the dealership.

I had spoken to Clay Olson of my intention of buying a new Honda CRV 2015 EX-L Model, but also asked about the Honda CRV 2015 Touring. Earlier asked for an internet quote around 2 AM CDT, Clay answered via email at 4 AM. We live in Cedar Rapids IA, and Smart Honda is in Des Moines, All our business was done over phone, Clay was absolutely not pressuring us to buy and we got back to him after our loan was approved by our Financiers. The day we were going to take delivery of the vehicle, it was Clay's day off, but he made sure that all the transaction's went normal. When we arrived at the dealership Mike Herring was looking for us, having recognizing me from an ID I faxed, he received us, and called me by my name ! Without delay he made me sign a couple of papers, while the finance department was processing my loan papers, he quickly gave us an overview of where all controls were for the new touring, explained the features, and after the tour the financiers called and we were off on the road with our brand new Honda Touring 2015 CRV. I will surely buy from Smart Honda again and have been sharing my experience with my friends. I have shopped locally, but I did not like the way the sales treated me. Fantastic place to shop. Very friendly staff. We located my van on line and then sent an email to inquire about it. I had a fast reply back and made arrangements to go look at it. Meantime I filled out a loan application on line and before I got to the dealership, we received a phone call to tell us we were approved for the loan. My husband had totaled my old van out on a deer so we were waiting on an insurance check for our down payment. Smart Honda said on problem. The van would be there when I had it. Working with progressive insurance, I had my check the next day and picked up my van. Fantastic buying experience as always. This is the third car I've bought from the dealership. First buying experience was outstanding and somehow each one after has been even better. My wife and I are both on our second lease with Smart Honda - a Pilot EX-L and an Accord EX-L V6. Her first lease ran 3 years and we loved the Pilot so we got another. My first lease ran about six months and I had to get a new car due to an issue with the speakers in the car. The service manager Josh and service techs made great attempts to fix the issue numerous times but the issue didn't go away - it was certainly a bizarre situation. The GM Matt got involved and offered exemplary service, ensuring that he had a satisfied customer. He exchanged the car for a new car without the issue, and I am very satisfied. I've bought many cars in the past but this was by far the best auto purchase experience ever. Low key, no pressure yet totally professional. I asked questions, did a test drive, did a trade in, then a purchase, and all was handled with ease. They answered all my questions, offered finance options (with no pressure) and away I went. Loved working with Matt Carlson. I was in contact with 2 other dealers and Smart Honda had the best price and they were open with me when I asked questions. The other dealerships would just conveniently ignore some of my questions, which made me feel uncomfortable. We love our 2015 Honda Accord Sport, it is our first Honda and we are head over heels. I called several days ahead for a service appointment and was scheduled for 7:30 am. I arrived 15 minutes early and was told I would be one of the first in the shop. For a simple oil changed I walked out at 8:45. The explanation for the hour and a half wait was they didn't have the filter for my car. If this policy of not having the filter at the time of the appointment does not change I will not be back nor will I consider buying another car here. Good news travels fast and bad news travels faster. If I don't hear from the dealership I will assume you don' care.

Asking question lead us quickly to talking numbers. Could not get interest rates or what other fees were going to be included. They wanted to focus on what the payment was going to be.... Felt high pressure when asking basic questions and run around when wanting exact details. The 'deal' they were pitching kept getting worse for me but sounded good when focusing on one element of the deal. Not likely to go back.

Did you buy a "The Mechanic" Warranty??? Is your copy left unchecked? You think you bought Platinum? Well, you may have bought only the Gold.... Did they pair your finance rate with buying a service contract? Did you try to cancel and they never cancelled? You might want to double check your warranty of cancellation of.... AND Good luck by the way. It was and is a horrible experience at SMART. They epitomize car dealerships. Experiences like these are unfortunate as HONDA is a great company. This particular dealership has many integrity issues with the finance department. It could be one employee? It could be all departments and staff? If you experience was clean... They made plenty off your transaction.

I recently purchased a 2012 Honda Pilot from Smart Honda. The vehicle is great and I feel I got it at a fair price. The problem I have been dealing with started when we signed the contract. I left a $500 check with a business manager to hold the vehicle for one night while I went to the bank to get the money for the purchase. I was assured that the check would not be cashed....just needed to hold the vehicle. When I returned to pick up the vehicle, I paid the amount owed in full and left the dealership. I realized a day later that I did not get the $500 check back. We contacted the salesman, who went to check on it's status and informed me it has already been cashed. I find it odd that a $500 check in a deal jacket, along with a check that was for the entire amount, would be cashed without trying to figure out what it was for. I called at least three times, to no avail, to find out when I would get the money back. I finally had to go to the dealership in person to make things happen, two weeks after we picked up the car and 13 days after the $500 check was cashed. I spoke to the manager of the finance department and he had no idea what was going on, did not even know we had this problem. I then spoke to the General Manager the following day, and the same thing...did not have a clue regarding my situation. After I spoke to him, he promised that he would follow up with me that same day. True to form, never heard back. Two days after my visit the check showed up. While I did get some apologies when I went in to confront them in person, never did they offer any sort of compensation for the incredible inconvenience...not even a couple free oil changes! If you are shopping for a vehicle and can find the same vehicle elsewhere, I recommend you look there first and keep this experience I had in mind.

I am very picky about my cars and go through them with a fine-tooth comb (much more than most I would imagine), and Smart Honda was very accommodating to my needs. Six months before the expiration of my lease, a sales representative called me and discussed options. I decided I wanted to wait until the end of the lease to make a decision and he was supportive and said he would be ready when I am. I called two weeks before my lease expired and said what I wanted and how much I wanted to pay. I wanted the same car to lease but the newest model and wanted to pay the same price. The representative researched what was available for the cost and we got everything agreed to in about 5 minutes. Before coming in to sign the paperwork, he suggested filling out the financial application for the lease online and faxing in my driver's license and proof of insurance. I did both. I hadn't given an exact day or time that I would arrive, so when I did I was floored. The keys were waiting for me, the financial guy had everything drawn up and as soon as I showed up, my rep said he would pull the car around - it was already cleaned and gassed up for me. Everyone I encountered at 6:00 on a Tuesday night was professional, enthusiastic and efficient. I signed the paperwork, hopped in my car and was out of the lot 20 minutes after arriving. They were supposed to change registration month on title work and even charged me extra for it. It never happened wrong registration month on registration and I never got my money back. I've called numerous times and get told the same thing, we will get a check out to you within a couple of weeks..........Still nothing! They are a bunch of thieves!! The staff reached out prior to the expiration of my lease to offer a very fair price to trade my 2012 Leased Accord for a new 2014 Leased Accord. The process was very easy. The terms were settled via e-mail. The car and paperwork were prepared upon arrival. The process took less than 10 minutes. It was a great experience.

I shopped around and found Smart Honda had the best deal. It was worth the trip to Des Moines to get a new car fresh off the truck at a great price. My dealings were all done on line with Mike. He offered me a great price with all the options I wanted and even gave me a few extra perks. You can price compare on line but Smart Honda was the easiest to deal with, no pressure. My local dealer couldn't come close to the price I paid plus they gave me some pathetic story that if they cut their price it would "devalue all the other new Honda cars bought". Didn't get this kind of bull from Smart, they were honest about everything. This is my first Honda and so far I'm loving it.

In the last year, or a bit more, I've bought two Hondas (an Odessey and a CRV) from them, in part because they have the single best automobile sales representative I've EVER dealt with. His name is Leon Wilkens and I have no doubt that I will buy additional cars from him in the future. No pressure, extremely knowledgeable about his products, and scrupulously honest. Why buy a car in Des Moines, IA when you live in Lincoln, NE you ask? There are a couple of different reasons. The dealers in Nebraska that we worked with either didnt get back to us on a price or insisted that we come down to the dealership to get the price and then still wouldnt give us their price until we agreed to purchase the car from them right then, they didnt have the color I wanted, or they just simply didnt seem to care about us purchasing a vehicle from them. When I emailed Clay at Smart Honda, I received a reply very quickly with the best price of any dealer. My husband thought I was nuts for wanting to drive to Des Moines to buy a car, but Clay had me at, Your Welcome. After I received his price quote back, I emailed him back thanking him for the information and told him I needed to talk to my husband. He emailed back, Your Welcome. Who does that anymore! No pressure to come out and buy, no asking what he could do to earn my business that day, just sheer politeness. When we drove out there, we had just parked and was cleaning out the trash when an employee walks by and offered to take our trash for us! Again, who does that! I could see ignoring us, pointing us in the direction of a trash can, pushing a car on us, but not taking our trash! The rest of our buying experience was stress free and easy. They were laid back and easy going. They gave us the best offer on our trade, a nice cloth bag for our belongings, and set up our Bluetooth and gave detailed instructions on how our car worked. Financing was smooth and they didnt try to sell you all that extra garbage you dont want or need. My only complaint was that I didnt get a keychain so I could proudly display that on my keys, and of course to rub it in to the other dealers back in Nebraska. My husband was very glad we made the trip to Des Moines. I highly recommend them and will definitely go back to them if we purchase another Honda.

I traded in my salvaged 2005 vehicle and leased a 2013 Honda Civic through Kelly Osborn. I'm a college student at ISU and I have been working my tail off at 3 jobs to be able to afford a monthly payment of around $200 and Kelly made it happen. He gave me a great price for the vehicle I was trading, threw in free oil changes for the 3 years that I have the car, and I am still able to have a reliable, new car at a price I can afford. I was nervous going into the experience of buying my first new car and Kelly made it fun and relaxed and put me at ease about the whole process. He and the financial staff (Last name Crook and I can't remember the other person's name) were so helpful and commended me on my great credit score for being such a young, first-time buyer. It felt like I was being pampered by Honda while I was there. The experience did not feel like they were pushing to make me buy a car from them. They understood my needs and did everything that they could to accommodate for them. So thank you Kelly and Smart Honda for getting me into a safer, nicer car that I can afford and feel comfortable commuting in as much as I do. I give Smart Honda four stars only because the service advisor once tried to "sell me up" to a transmission flush thousands of mile before it was required. Our 2009 Accord was excellent, inexpensive to run and the result of a fair deal through salesman John Hand. So when we decided to buy the much- improved 2013 model, we called John. Fair deal, and John worked to get exactly the car we wanted with the options we required. Recommend them with the caveat that you make sure service does ONLY the work Honda specifies.

We typically do not enjoy the car buying process, but our experience with Mike Herring and Smart Honda was very different. Soon after driving onto their lot, their staff approached us to ask if we had any questions. We wanted to drive the new Accord and immediately took it for a test drive. When we returned, Mike was there to meet us. We do not like high pressure sales and Mike was responsive, provided answers to our numerous questions, was very patient with us, but did not pressure us for a decision throughout the buying process. He gave us his full attention and at no time did we feel like he needed to move on to another customer; even though the dealership was very busy that day. We clearly believe that his goal was to help us choose a vehicle to meet our needs while assuring that the process was enjoyable without stress or pressure. For example, while we loved the new Accord, Mike demonstrated that he was listening to us and he realized (what we had overlooked) that we wanted a feature that the Accord did not have; all wheel drive. He therefore steered us to another option; a high quality used 2012 Crosstour that had all of the features we wanted within our price range. We had plans to visit other specific dealers and drive other specific vehicles, but liked the way we were treated and the Crosstour . . . and bought it the next day. We have not experienced any service needs yet, but have high expectations from what we have seen and experienced. We believe that Honda makes great vehicles (this is our first) and can tell you that we enjoyed our buying experience at Smart Honda.

We were given ample space and time to come to a decision and we felt respected and well taken care of throughout our buying experience. He was very knowledgeable of the various features, trim packages, MPG, engine capabilities, etc., available for my price point. I just recently bought my 2nd vehicle through SmartHonda. First a CR-V and now a Pilot. Both are great vehicle, the only reason I went with the Pilot this time is for the extra room. I absolutely love it!!! Chris Gasche helped me with both of my purchases and he's great to work with. I can't imagine going anywhere else for my vehicle needs!! Thank you guys!!

I bought a 2013 Civic from this dealership. The service was great! I special ordered it a while back and I received it shortly after. The sales people were helpful in questions that I had and gave me updates on my order. The paperwork process was very fast and efficient and took maybe 5 minutes. I would definitely recommend this dealership!

Used car buying from a dealer has some negative stereotypes out there...but Chris Gasche at Smart Honda dispelled them for me. From the first meeting he was friendly and professional. My daughter and I appreciated his non pushy manner. The price for the car and our trade-in were both fair, and he did everything that we agreed on at the closing of the sale. Thanks Chris for helping us purchase a good used Fit. You made it a positive experience.

Clay at Smart Honda was so helpful as we were looking for our new vehicle. He did not pressure us at all, but provided us with great information and guidance as we were looking at vehicles. He responded quickly to my requests. Rob made our buying process quick and easy. He obviosly has a lot of experience, was very helpful, and pleasant to work with even though we had a toddler with us and it was late in the evening. I have had three experiences at Smart Honda and feel compelled enough to write a review. Everyone is polite and the facility is nice; however, their car buying experience is a predictable and tiring. They do not initially offer market price for new purchases and trades, they are up to 20% too high for the overall deal. I assume this is their standard process to cash in on people who have not done their research or are too intimidated to negotiate. Customers should come first but at Smart Honda, I feel they come second behind the dealership's interests. I have eventually received good deals from Smart Honda; customers just need to understand their process before buying. I prefer to deal with dealerships who offer fair pricing upfront and not make the experience a game.

The people were friendly. We told them what we were looking for and said that we could have that. When it was time to sign the papers for purchase we found that they couldn't do any of what we asked. Couldn't stay within our requested payment range. Couldn't give us a warranty. Wouldn't negotiate on pricing. Didn't go over final numbers with us. Tried to get us into a lease instead purchasing used. Were wishy washy about being able to do what we asked with out telling us straight up no. Basically guilted into purchasing because financing pulled some strings on the interest rate. Finance person was nice and helpful, sales guy was not. We won't go back ever again.

This dealership has not ever pushed services that are not needed and they are honest about service intervals. They also support the local community quite well via sponsorship to kids sports and fundraising. A great no pressure place to buy.

A very nice dealership full of nice people. Everyone was pleasant and helpful and I asked a few favors. It was very clean, good coffee. I was told a trade value and that is what I was given. I could not believe how quick my visit to the finance office was. I don't even remember his name, but every dealership needs more people like him. I also want to thank Chris Grasche, very pleasant and helpful. I just bought a used vehicle too. I would definitely go back.

This is one of the best buying experiences that I had with car dealers. The price quoted was reasonable with no gimmicks. Within one hour of test driving, I was driving my new Honda CRV to home.

Looking for a new car and this is about your only option in des moines. Wanted a certain make/model and talked trade and they were not even close on trade values. I felt insulted and basically told them I would purchase a car from their competition. They didnreally seem to care and I am a cash buyer for a new Accord. Stay away they suck and so does their service dept.
