In June of 2020, I traded up my 2015 Forester to a new 2020 Forester Sport with them, and was impressed by their professionalism and no-pressure sales environment. When my mom was looking to trade up her car, I decided to stop by with her to compare the deal offered by a more local to us dealer, and was glad that we did. The deal was more fair to her and she liked the new 2022 Legacy more than the cars the other dealership had on their lot. And she was also impressed about their professionalism and no-pressure sales environment. Also, I did have one issue with my Forester (audio system) that went away on its own, never to be seen again. When I called Van Bortel to see about having it addressed, they offered accommodations that in my experience, other dealerships do not offer, due to me living some miles away. I will definitely consider them for purchasing in the future and will continue referring family and friends to them based off of my experiences so far.

From and hour away There one of few withen 300 miles who had what I wanted ! Went to the newest building that’s being set up for another great experience.... this was my first time there and looked at a very rare grand Cherokee summit I had more fun than anything never have I experienced anything like this before and Ralph assured me he would do what he could and either way I’ll be a returning customer for life highly recommend just for a different experience to prove all dealers are not the same thank you kitty

I really enjoyed my purchase from Van Bortel Subaru. I purchased a used 2015 Subaru Forester. It was in great condition and priced perfectly. The staff were amazing and ensured I got a great rate on the car. Our sales guy, Andrew Bolton, was knowledgeable, courteous, and hard working. Overall, a 5 out of 5 experience. Would recommend.

I got a good price on my Subaru and found that Van Bortel treats customers fairly with no-hassle prices that are lower than other dealers. When I took my car in for a minor recall, they handled it promptly and in a very friendly manner. It's not hard to see why they are one of the largest Subaru dealers in the country.The dealership is currently very cramped, the showroom is too crowded to actually show cars. That should be alleviated shortly with the completion of a major expansion of the facility.

My wife and I took delivery of a 2016 Outback in June to replace the 2014 Outback that we leased. We were so impressed with the technology and all of the safety features on the 2016 that we decided to replace our 2007 Outback with a 2017 Legacy. Our 2007 has moved to our Daughter's home for use by our grandchildren.All of this activity was made effortless by the great team at Van Bortel. We went in person to visit this dealership and were impressed by the atmosphere. Low pressure, and it felt like party. We met Vince Bovenzi, our sales representative and ended up ordering a new 2017 Subaru Forester. We have had the pleasure of dealing with Van Bortel Motor Cars, for a number of years. Two Fords, and five Subarus to date. The dealerships make the car buying experience interesting, and pleasurable,rather than the dreaded chore that some auto dealers present. Management and staff are consistently knowledgeable, professional, and very nice, presenting and discussing all the various options, and possibilities that the purchase of an automobile presents. This is true in both the sales, and service departments! There are no " trips to talk with the sales manager", or attempts to sell you an accessory,or service, that you don't want or need. Contacted Van Bortel through email. Vince responded very quickly. He answered all my questions and responded in a very timely manor. There was no pressure at all. They gave me a trade in value and great pricing for my legacy through email. I was very nervous because it was my first time buying a car online. When I showed up to pick it up I was greeted and the whole process went smoothly without any problems. They had someone go through the car with me to show me how everything worked and I was on my way. I travelled 1.5 hours to pick up my car and I would do it again in a heart beat. Low pressure, great price, great experience. I would definitely purchase another vehicle through them. Again this is what buying a car should be like.

I am so happy I found Van Bortel. The search for my first Subaru began on-line. I found Van Bortel's site, which was offering upfront pricing, that was already comparable to True Car pricing. It was not necessary to take something in stock to get that pricing, I was able to order exactly what I wanted. Jeremy assured me there was no obligation to buy the car if I changed my mind, they would find another buyer if needed. A good deal of the arrangements were made over the phone and via e-mail with Jeremy, and Steve in the business department. Jeremy was able to give me a range that my trade in would be worth (sight unseen), and Steve was able to get me a better interest rate than my bank was offering. When it came time to pick up my crosstrek, my trade in was assessed, and I was given the high end of the range given over the phone in the early stages. They never played the "shell game" with the price of the car or my trade in value. Cody went over the new vehicle with me, answered all of my questions and helped me program settings and Bluetooth. Jacob went over warrantee/protection options, but no pressure was ever applied to purchase any of it. Nice people, great car, no pressure, honest, up front sales approach. With out a doubt, the best car buying experience I have ever had. I know where my next Subaru will come from.

The salesman gave me his cell number and helped me with answering my questions, even on his day off, and he showed me how to get the options I wanted without spending a lot more money on the next trim line. They didn't even require a down payment to hold the car for me! Fair price and competent, totally professional treatment!!!

Best car buying experience ever. Dealt with Vince online. Gave me price and trade in value through email. Responded to all my questions promptly, even on his day off. When I showed up to pick up my car I was greeted and was lead to the business manager. My file was pulled. In and out very quickly. They went over all the features of the car before I left. 2 days later received a follow up call to make sure everything was good. Vince was not pushy at all and was great to deal with. I was very nervous as it was my first time buying a car online. The price was the best around. Traveled 1 1/2 hours to pick up vehicle and I would do it again. Very professional dealership. 5 star all the way

I decided that I wanted a WRX STi, so I contacted Van Bortel. The initial contact was great. I was working with Vince who responded to all of my questions very quickly, and helped me work through the ordering process. At this point I was already starting to tell family and friends how great the dealership was .When my car arrived at the dealer. I went in to do some paperwork before picking up my car. I had already secured financing through a credit union. They of course wanted me to use their financing, but couldn't beat the rate I already had, so I wanted to use what I already had. I was then told that they could use my check, but I would have to wait for the check to clear. My check cleared the next day, but then I was told that I still could not pick up the car for 10 days.The reasoning given was that I could take the car and the credit union could revoke payment. That may very well be a possibility, however they have my name, address, SSN, at that point they would have my trade in, and another personal check from me as a down payment. If the worst case scenario happened I would be pretty easy to find. I would also expect the dealership to try and go out of their way to satisfy a customer, but apparently they are only interested in doing that if they can make money on your financing deal.This place would probably get 5 stars if you use their financing. If you don't (which is not an unreasonable situation), then the experience you have may resemble mine.Update:After I posted this review the dealership, worked to get me into my car. I can now say happily that I have my car and that the pick up process was great. Everyone was courteous and polite, and they have a plentiful selection of food and drink on hand.

We were'nt sure if we were interested in an Outback or Forester. Within minutes Theresa had us test driving both vehicles. Upon selecting the Forester Thereda sat down with us and expertly explained the various vehicle packages in the Forester and Van Bortels pricing. The entire sales process was seem less.

My experience at Van Bortel was a very extraordinary one. Our salesman, Jim Bertino was wonderful. He never once made us feel pressured. Jim went out of his way to get us the cars that we wanted to test drive. He is very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. There was great communication after we ordered our Outback. We never had to wonder when our vehicle was going to arrive. When we came in to pick up our vehicle, Nichole Locke was so helpful and knowledgeable as well. Sherry Guest showed us all of our interior and exterior features on our Outback. It was truly a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend Van Bortel Subaru to all of my friends and family.

We've been VanBortel customers since 2002 and just purchased our fifth Subaru from them. Previously, we'd never bought more than one car from any dealer. The entire VanBortel team is totally customer-focused which makes the buying experience stress-free. The showroom is immaculate with numerous amenities, and the staff is neatly dressed and well-groomed. We recently survived a roll-over accident in which our almost new Forester was totaled and, as the Subaru ad says, "We walked away." The emergency responders told us if we'd been driving anything but a Subaru, we probably wouldn't have survived, let alone escaped with only very minor injuries...yet another reason we keep returning to VanBortel; their product is the best! When we went to buy a replacement vehicle, the employees were more focused on our well-being than on selling us another car.Our only "complaint" is that one of the used cars we identified on-line had been sold. Fortunately, we found several others which were available. Our salesperson, Jim Pennell, put a hold on them and had them ready for us to test-drive when we arrived. Thanks, Jim!

This is a low pressure sales environment geared towards service rather than pushing product. The day I received a phone call alerting me that my Outback came in, I received a second call with a bad news-good news ring to it. The bad news was that there was a mistake on my order. The Outback came in with the Navigation Moonroof + Eyesight Assist, etc. option, which we had not ordered. This has a MSRP tag of $3,490. The good news: it was Subaru's mistake, so we got it au gratis.

My salesman was very friendly and listened to what I was saying. He was very helpful and answered my questions directly and honestly. The best experience I have had to date, buying a car.

There was a team that ultimately made my car buying experience at Van Bortel successful and without stress. But it all started with a knowledgeable and patient salesman, James Bertino. James helped me from the moment we walked through the door and requested to test ride a vehicle. From there we went other places and came back and James helped us, talking us through different phases. James answered my emails and phone calls. Another test ride, more talk about the vehicle. We had lots of questions, hadn't purchased a new car in over ten years. We have our new car and are very happy with it. I never realized how important a part the salesman plays in the car buying decision. Thank you James for making our experience stress-free.

I am so over the moon about my experience at Van Bortel Subaru. I have shopped around on and off for a while now, but I just couldn't stand the way I was being treated at most places. This was the 1st place where the minute I set foot on the lot I was treated with respect and patience. Buying a car is a big deal and is very expensive so it was important to me to be sure I was buying the right one. In other places I felt rushed into a decision and worse yet, I felt pushed into vehicles that I was not sure about. At Van Bortel my sales associate, Jim, was everything I could have hoped for. He let me try different things, he ran numbers on my top two and gave me the privacy and time to make my decision. After I committed I called about accessories and he had them all set when I picked up the vehicle. In the week following, several members of the Van Bortel team followed up with me. I highly recommend them and will never go elsewhere again!

My wife and I purchased a used forester XT here almost two weeks ago. Our sales person was nice enough and helpful, but honestly her job was easy. I knew what we wanted and we were prepared to pay cash. The no haggle pricing was nice and the experience looking at the car and what not was fine. The trouble started the moment they knew they had a sale. The business manager called to set up a time to pick up the car and originally it was to be at least two days. For a dealership of this size, I find this unacceptable. I can go into almost any dealership and walk out with a car and yet their inability to meet customer demands prevents this and this was even admitted to by their business manager. I got over that issue and scheduled a time to pick up the car two days later. I was then called and informed it would be three more days due to an open recall. My issue with this is that we were buying a $25k certified vehicle and the recall had been issued over a month before. A certified vehicle should not be on the lot with an open recall. I was getting frustrated and began looking elsewhere and wouldn't you know a local Honda dealership had a similar vehicle. I called and guess what? They were aware of the recall and already had their vehicle fixed. How is it the largest Subaru dealership in the area couldn't figure out how to do that. Fast forward, we still decide to buy the car. We reviewed the certification checklist and several "no's" were checked dealing with the interior. I actually asked what that was about and if rips had been found and was told by their business folks that "no, that means we didn't look at that". A few days after picking up the car I found a small rip in the drivers seat that we hadn't noticed before and I think I was flat out lied to. We looked at the vehicle during the evening with poor lighting. Yes, we should have spotted this but I think to push the sale through they resorted to lying. They also forgot to include an accessory we ordered, which they charged us more than $60 more than I can get the same item for through Amazon, so I had to drive back out to pick that up. Final straw was someone called to ask my opinion and experience. I explained all of this and was told that I would be contacted within 24 hours by a manager to address these concerns as they wanted to ensure everyone a great experience. Guess what? That was four days ago and no call. Take your Subaru business to Spurr in Brockport. By far a much better experience and dealership. Ms. VanBortel should be ashamed of this type of service.

Overall I had a great experience. I had inquired about a used vehicle I saw on the site, and then showed up to the dealer later that day to look around. I didn't see that I had received an email response, but I had. Joelle made a point to come over and introduce herself and take over helping me as she was following through with my initial email. The car I originally was looking at was no longer available, but she did a great job going through the list of over comparable vehicles that were also in my price range. I ended up with something a few years newer and with more features but at a price that I found incredibly reasonable. Jacob handled my initial finance and warranty conversations and helped me understand all of my options (I had never financed before, so this was huge). Both Joelle and Jacob took notes on the details of the car that I wanted addressed (minor scuffs, scratches, an extra key fab etc.). When I came to get the car, it looked brand new and someone took the time to go through every detail and initial setup of some of the car features. Tammi then met with me for final run around with paperwork and financing. She did incredibly job reaffirming everything I had already been told, as well as explaining some of the other fine print details on the millions of forms. I cannot express enough how pleased I was, everyone took great care of me and made my first time financing a car an enjoyable experience.

I bought my 2016 Forester after research and after being a Toyota buyer in the past. I was so happy with the car and the dealership. Mrs. VanBortel runs an exemplary dealership, VInce Bovenzi my salesman was outstanding, never have I had the courteous treatment, from a highly intelligent, polite young man. Kevin Hunt, assisted me with the finances, and again, I was astounded at his level of professionalism, courtesy, and intelligence. Today I had my 6-month service visit, and again, nothing but the most courteous polite service advisors, and you feel great every encounter with any of the outstanding employees at Van Bortal. I am a Van Bortel Subaru buyer for life. I will never buy another automobile from any car dealer but Van Bortel. .

Found the vehicle on line and was sent pictures, a car fax and description. Very responsive. Was given an offer sight unseen on an older pickup. Arrived and found the vehicle to exceed my expectations and the offer for the trade in was not questioned. In addition to the sales representative the finance department had everything prepared and waiting for completion. I was in and out with the trade in under an hour and that included a test drive. There was no pressure from anyone and any questions were fully answered. I even contacted the finance department from the DMV in my home state with a question and was given prompt assistance. In 2014 I purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback. I waited 4 months for the car. To make a very long story short, I was having several different problem in the first few months of owning it. The service department and staff always did a great job. But, the problems continued to mount. The service department finally suggested that I talk to Kitty, the owner. I did and she reimbursed me for travel expenses (16 visits in 6 weeks) and offered to replace the car. There was a slight miscommunication with staff, but eventually I got a new 2016 Outback. I have never had a dealership do something like this for me. Others just make you live with it. So I encourage everyone to at least check out this dealership. My salesman was Vince Bovenzi and Bryon Triglianos in service.

My 2012 Forester Limited is my first Subaru purchased from Van Bortel Subaru but definitely will not be my last. I've never had such a great experience and recommend them all the time to friends and family or to anyone who asks if I like it to which my response is always "I LOVE IT and Van Bortel Subaru!" I am always amazed that when I bring my Forester in for service I am treated just as wonderful as I was when I was buying it brand new. Everyone is ALWAYS so wonderful. After 9 years and 146000 miles it was time to replace my Saturn Vue. As Saturn was not in business anymore and GM did not provide great service, I needed to look elsewhere.After reading multiple cars reviews, on line searches and customer satisfaction reports Toyota and Subaru where on the short list. A trusted relative pointed me to Van Bortel Subaru.For the first time in some 50 odd years of car ownership I traveled outside of county to purchase a car.I had to wait two months for delivery.Why? It was worth it. The sales staff was friendly, honest and did not pressure me after the on line searches. The pricing was great and a fair trade in for my car. There are many reasons why people do reviews; I am choosing to do this review for Van Bortel Subaru because I feel so strongly in this dealership and its people. From the time I purchased my very first Subaru in May on 2010 a Subaru Outback, through all of my regular servicing it has always been a pleasure to deal with them. They always kept my 10 Outback, in top shape, and in the five years that I owned it, there wasnt any issues I dealt with except the normal wear and tearthis must stand for the quality of the Subaru product. So in May of 2015, my 5th year anniversary --- Subaru of America sent me an e-mail to update and offered me an outstanding incentive that I just had to take advantage of. Arriving at Van Bortel Subaru for a scheduled oil change, I found my favorite Sales Consultant Theresa All present and greeting me with a huge smile like she always did in the past, we sat down and within just a few minutes I had an estimate on my 10 Outback and began to put together the package for a NEW 16 Subaru Outback that, of course, would have to be ordered. I took delivery on October 30th of my 16 Subaru Outback. Recently, I went back up to Van Bortel Subaru to have a part added; I did this because Subaru of America sent me another incentive that I was able to use for the part. Service Advisor, Steve Sevensma was there to greet me, chat a little and ask if there was anything else they could do for me; now I didnt have an appointment for service but I had incurred a couple of deep scratches on the back and they were more than happy to touch-up these scratches for me. This puts them Above and Beyond in my book. My first regular servicing will be coming up shortly and even though I drive 130 miles to reach this dealership I know that it is sooo worth the journey. And, of course, Ill look forward to seeing Theresa, the other sales and service people and seeing the LOVE that surrounds this awesome dealership!!

Vince was very patient with all the emails and the phone calls. When we arrived at the dealership Andrew walked us thru the entire process and was so helpful. There was no haggling we got what we wanted for our trade. Dave in finance was great to work with too. Would definitely go back again

Leasing the 2016 Impreza this week was the 5th car from this dealership for me. I so much appreciatethe fact that the deals are straight forward and there is no negotiating or hassel. The sales reps areknowledgeable, helpful and very professional. As a senior, I liked the extra personnel that went over the "workings" of the car especially all the new features. I love my Impreza, it's a great car and the Van Bortal dealership is a great place.

MY wife bought a 2016 Legacy , her "Dream Car" , from Van Bortel about six months ago. We took the car in for routine service last Saturday and I wound up trading my Honda Civic on a sweet 2013 Legacy with one previous owner and only 20K on it ! I purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback last year. I had several problems with it right from the start (too many to list). My salesman, Vince, suggested I speak to Kitty Van Bortel, owner. She reimbursed me for my travel expenses and offered to replace the car. A slight mix up in everyone understanding what she wanted to do, besides, there's a waiting list for this car (4 months). So it took longer than it probably would have, but on Monday the transaction took place. I now have a 2016 Outback at no additional cost to me. In all of my 50 years of buying cars I have never seen or heard of a dealer doing something like this. Many YAHOOS to "Kitty Van Bortel". Please consider purchasing your next vehicle from her.

My wife was in the market for a new vehicle and so we had stopped at a few dealerships in the Syracuse area which is only 40 minutes from home. She had her mind set on a certain make and I on a Subaru as I had read numerous articles on both vehicles. After convincing her to at least look at the Subaru Forester we stopped by the local Subaru dealer and she fell in love with it. After the usual test drive with the salesman there explaining all the fancy features of the car we went back and talked trade in value, any sale prices and rock bottom price of the car. Of course the Salesman had to excuse himself to talk to his manager, and the typical waiting period, etc. We left there not quite satisfied with the whole process, it is only 40 minutes from home when service is needed. Our neighbors suggest we try VanBortel in Victor, NY which is 1 hour and 30 minutes from home. Well to make a long stor short we dealt with Vince Bovenzi and walked out of there with a new vehicle at a significance savings. The VanBortel salepeople were very courteous, there was no pressure, we test drove the vehicle without the dealer who said to "take it for a drive and have fun". we sat and talked new car price and trade in price and walked away very satisfied with the whole experience. So if I'm willing to drive 1-1/2 hours from home to by a vehicle then that must say something for VanBortel. Also dealt with Kevin Hunt who processed the final paper work when picking up tje new vehicle and Jake who was an absolute riot to talk to as he went over the eletronics and how everything worked. I would definetly recommend VanBortels to friends and relatives and will continue to do business there in the future.

This is the second Subaru purchased from Van Bortel. Service is excellent, and the atmosphere is refreshing for a dealership. I especially like the fact that you can order exactly what you want right down to the accessories AND its thousands less than other dealers in the area. I highly recommend this dealership for anyone looking for a Subaru.

I'm not a youngster (75) and have purchased many new cars in my lifetime. Van Bortel is certainly second to none in my book. They spent almost an hour explaining both the electronics and mechanical features to my Subaru Outback and offered a solid trade in value for my 2011 Infiniti G37X. They were extremely thorough. My wife took delivery in early Sept for her 2016 Outback 3.6R and I was so impressed by the handling, visibility and well appointed interior that I bought an identical Outback 5 months later. I Stein

All of the employees, from sales to service, provide unequalled customer service in a cheerful, sincere manner. It is a pleasure to take my vehicle in for service, at Van Bortel. There is an inviting waiting area, equipped with a TV, laptop computers and complementary beverages. Or, if you prefer not to wait, a loaner car is available for a small fee. Their technicians are excellent and are quick to resolve any issues. Kittty VanBortel provides her cell phone number and responds, personally, to any concerns a customer may have. That, to me, demonstrates this dealer's commitment to excellent customer service! They are the best!

I'm 55 now, and bought my first car right out of college at 23. Back then, as is today - "you have to walk out of dealership at least 3 times before dealer will meet you at the fair price you want. Not so, Van Bortel - best car buying experience ever! No hassle, no haggling. My salesperson, Karl, was so attentive to me as customer that it was more about establishing a relationship, than making a "deaL". He was responsive, professional, straight foward - he helped me get everthing I wanted in my unique circumstances. He went 'above and beyond' my expectations by providing me with a loaner until my 2016 Crosstrek was delivered. (And the loaner was spectacular 2015 Forester XT!)It was more about "relationship" and "valueing" me as a customer that I now consider Karl a real friend. After buying cars over 32 years now, I found a home. I will never buy from anyone else. That is a comforting feeling.

I have brought 5 different vehicles to Van Bortel for service over the last several years and all but one experience was excellent with the remaining one quickly resolved by Mark Williams.I have been to each and every Subaru dealer in Western NY and purchased new vehicles from two of them. My experience purchasing a vehicle from Van Bortel was extremely pleasant. Karl Lindemuth answered all our questions and made the entire process stress free. Our next new vehicle will definitely be purchased from him as well.

My wife and I had been looking for a new vehicle for about a month. We decided on a new 2016 WRX. Looking over all the local dealer inventory we were unsuccessful in finding anything that fit our needs. A friend of mine suggested that we give Van Bortel Subaru a try. I looked at their inventory and low and behold they had 15 to choose from. We made the hour and half trip to Victor and took one for a drive. Our sales associate Jeremy was great! Kevin Hunt helped us with the financing, great job as well! He got us the rate and term we wanted. He made our experience awesome! We bought the WRX for a great deal and we got what we wanted for out trade in. Everyone at VB was friendly and courteous. My wife and I totally understand why VB is one of the top Subaru dealers in the nation! They have great service department hours 6 days a week till 9pm! I'm sure we will return for our service! What a great way to buy our first SUBARU!

When a new car was in order back in May 2010, my son brought me to Van Bortel Subaru. After saying no way, I very quickly discovered this was not an ordinary dealership. Saleswoman, Theresa All greeted me on the lot with a most beautiful smile and walked me through a fantastic no hassle purchase of a 10 Subaru Outback.I live about 135 miles away in Pennsylvania but always made my regular scheduled service appointments and it paid off when this past May on the 5th anniversary I was offered an incentive by Subaru to up-grade. Van Bortel is so worth the drive!!Arriving at Van Bortel in mid June for an oil change - once again I found Theresa, she presented me with a great trade-in deal to trade-up for a new 2016 Subaru Outback. The vehicle was ordered and I took delivery in late October. The great thing is I was able to work with Theresa via e-mail, phone and fax. I have always found all the staff at Van Bortel to be very outgoing, kind and courteous. One week after I had the vehicle I had a few questions, Theresa called me at home, had me go sit in the car and she walked me through more items on my new Outback. TheresaThank You so much for all your attention and help! I didn't have a good experience here in Delaware with a Subaru salesperson pushing an on-lot car, lying about order time for a new car, and undercutting by 20% on my trade-in. I was referred to Karl Lindemuth at Bortel Subaru 6.5 hours away who presented a number far beating any place else and hit the nail on the head for what I wanted and expected for my trade-in. I did my homework and research and his numbers were the most competitive. After purchase, any and all questions have since been addressed directly and immediately by Karl whenever they have come up. I will only deal with him for new Subarus from here on in.

Anywhere. Ever. The degree of customer orientation, the lengths to which the staff go to ensure a good customer experience, the appearance of the physical plant, the professional appearance and demeanor of the staff, the generosity of company policies, the no horseplay pricing, and the superb quality of the product they're selling (used as well as new) all go to yielding a transaction which is as painless as possible, and is largely genuinely enjoyable (excepting the paying part!). Our purchase in 2010 of a 2005 Forester was facilitated by that consummate professional, Karl Lindemuth, so when we found ourselves in the market for a replacement, based on the felicitous earlier experience, it was he whom we sought out. Once again, Karl's encyclopaedic product knowledge, professional aura, no-pressure/no-nonsense approach, patience, and ability to convey large amounts of technical as well as financial information in a form we could understand, proved him to be exactly what we seek in representatives. In the course of our discussions, Karl was able to demonstrate to us that for the same amount of money out of pocket over the life of a used car loan or new car lease period would be roughly equivalent, and that at the end of that period we'd be ahead of the game in seeking a replacement at that point, which made our decision making process much shorter and easier. Karl is a great ambassador for the dealership, and a great asset to the customer. We so value Subarus generally and Van Bortel in particular, it is unlikely we shall ever do business with any other dealership.

The dealerships maintnance plan kicks back 1k if you buy a new car and your old car was serviced on schedule.That sealed the deal on purchase of the new car. Trade in value was fair = happy with the deal

My wife and I were told to ask for Mr Bovenzi, we came in as he was leaving to have dinner but he stayed late and helped us. Other than being a Mets fan, he was a very classy guy ;) He was genuine, very low pressure and patient as he walked me through multiple visits for my first lease and the 1,000 questions I had about leasing or buying. In the middle of waiting for the new 2016 models my old car completely broke down, and he did his best to get us the car faster than scheduled. Responds quickly to emails, and still happy to hear from us even after we drove it off the lot. Honestly I think bottom line he was a good person, and it really made the difference here.

Being promptly greeted when entering to drop off my car for service and waited on in a timely manner is always appreciated. When I came back to pick up my car, I received the same professional treatment upon entering the service area. It was a windy, rainy afternoon so I was asked to wait inside and someone drove my car up to the entrance for me. It's a standard I've come to expect when I visit VanBortel's and I haven't been disappointed yet! All businesses should take a lesson on customer service from them.

My wife and I are the owners of our 12th and 13th Subaru, all but the first couple being purchased at Van Bortel. We have had nothing but outstanding customer service from the Van Bortel Team from sales to service.We live 40 minutes from the Dealership and I always take our 2 outbacks to Van Bortel even for a simple oil change or inspection. The few times that we have needed a time consuming repair Van Bortel has provided an easy solution to transportation from low cost rentals to shuttle service.All of the folks at Van Bortel reach out to help customers. Well done.

Recently a neighbor called me to tell me one of my headlights was out on my 2013 Subaru Outback. It just so happens it was Friday and I was leaving for another state on Sunday. I called to see if they would be able to get me in that day or Saturday to fix it, and they told me about their policy for headlights or tailights being out. "To come during normal service hours and they would fit me in because they don't want me driving a car in unsafe conditions." I drove there, they immediately took the car and promised it back to me within the hour. About 45 minutes later, they said I had a new headlamp. What great service! They are #1 in my book!

We can't say enough about our experience with Van Bortel Subaru. We are now three time owners of a Subaru from these folks and each time only gets better. I think what sets them apart is the service received after the sale. Each associate seems to really care about the customer and goes out the way to serve our best interests. Theresa All took my order over the phone and the next day sent me an email with the trade-in and total price. When I picked up my 2016 Outback a few months later, I was charged exactly that price. Keven took care of all the paperwork and even called the insurance company while I was there picking it up. I spent a total of one hour at Van Bortel. They are the only place to get a great new car. My old one that was a 2007 Outback never had a repair or break down and it had almost 150,000 miles.

With aging vehicles, the time had come to go through the dreaded "look for a new car" ordeal. On previous searches we had stopped at Van Bortel, but found the Subie interiors uncomfortable. After a winter of research about AWD and too much snow, we stopped in again. We were fortunate to meet Jim Bertino, who seemed to intuitively understand what we were looking for. After a test drive in a Forester, we were disappointed again. Before we had time to turn around, Jim had an Outback ready to go. Much better! Like many, we were going to have to wait though.Prior to ordering, we reviewed our needs with Jim. His knowledge of the options, especially EyeSight plus willingness to show them on actual vehicles was helpful. There have been massive changes in cars in the last 12 years and we needed to be updated. The informative Subaru lit helped too. We got so excited we double ordered some accessories! We appreciated being able to take advantage of a cooperative credit Van Bortel offered. Ben W checked out our trade. When the car arrived, Kevin Hunt clarified how the credits we had coming could be used to our advantage. He worked smoothly with our credit union and insurance agency. The people and management polices at Van Bortel Subaru are a refreshing change from most other dealers from our POV. Our positive buying experience meant we were not frustrated and cynical about the process when the car arrived. We were ready to enjoy our new Outback!

In 2011, I bought a new 2012 Outback from Shawn Pies. He was so easy to work with: courteous, informative, patient and also willing to answer any of my questions after my purchase. Really good service was big on my list of "must haves". I had been working with Karl for a few months trying to find the perfect used car and his patience and cooperation astounded me. He never once pressured me into anything, and we worked through the entire process on my schedule. He found me exactly what I was looking for and gave me what I asked on my trade. VanBortel runs a tight schedule. They are very good about valuing my time. That is why I don't mind driving to Victor from Corning for great service I can trust. I also know if I'm ever not happy (which hasn't happened) Kitty VanBortel gives customers her personal cell phone number. I trust VanBortel and I love my Subaru!

We just bought our third car from Van Bortel. What we appreciate the most is the total absence of the traditional car dealer flim-flam. A fair price was offered and a generous trade-in allowance was given for our old car. All staff were cordial and very professional. We just bought our third car from Van Bortel. What we appreciate the most is the total absence of the traditional car dealer flim-flam. A fair price was offered and a generous trade-in allowance was given for our old car. All staff were cordial and very professional. Vince Bovenzi was my salesperson and he was truly professional and through. We also worked with our finance man, Kevin Hunt who was thorough and accurate. I got an excellent dollar for my wife's 11 year old Audi S4. The Audi had been my car since new but I bought my son's used Infiniti a 2011 G37XS turning over the Audi to my wife. After driving it for two years, she decided she preferred her previous car, a 2006 Outback turbo. She found she missed the storage capacity of her previous Outback as well as its automatic transmission. Vince worked with us starting on a Sunday. He actually gave us a trade-in value from several photos I mailed him as well as an accurate verbal description. We were patient waiting for the new Outback. We ordered a 2015 model in June but received a 2016 in early Sept at no extra cost! My wife loves the car and seems reluctant to allow me to drive it! Kudos to the staff at Van Bortel Subaru. Best dealer experience I ever had.

I have been trying to find odd parts for my 2003 Subaru Baja on line for several weeks and have not had a lot of success. I went to VanBortal Subaru in Victor finally, thinking it would cost a lot more than on line. IT DOES NOT! A very nice gentleman, Chris, from the parts counter introduced himself to me asking what he could help me with. I asked if he had the time for me to point out "on my Baja" what I needed. Not more that 3 seconds later, Chris was standing in front of me asking where I parked my car. He not only took the time to scan and look up my parts, but gave me suggestions on those no longer carried by Subaru. He was greta, the experience has rebuilt confidence in dealers (especially VanBortal, as we have three). Hat off to Chris, his knowledge, expertise, professionalism, and most of all cogenial/friendly demeanor.

Excellent personnel, service and facility. All individuals were courteous, professional, and friendly. The maintenance that was required was expertly determined and then executed. We were always kept abreast of the progress and immediately notified when the work was accomplished. Everyone was was polite and always smiling and helpful. The complementary water, coffee, and tea was greatly appreciated. The free use of the computer certainly helped the time to go by. All problems were corrected and we are very satisfied with the results to date.

I called to see if I could get an appointment at the beginning of the week, because I had a long trip coming up, and needed my car fixed quickly. They were booked - but told me to bring it in anyway, as early as possible, and they'd try to fit it in. I showed up just after they opened Monday morning, and despite being very careful not to promise me anything timewise, they kept me updated, and had the problem diagnosed and then fixed, and I was headed home by noon! This was after several repairs, because they looked carefully at everything, and gave me a rundown of "This is your immediate problem - repair costs x; this is a related issue that is not a problem yet but will be in a year, replacement would cost x or cleaning would cost x; here's an unrelated problem we saw along the way, that is not causing you an issue at all right now, but may in the future, and would cost x" and let me choose what I wanted done after making sure I understood each piece approved. Also, the various repairs that I'd approved originally added up to almost $500, which I'd agreed to - but while the repairs were being done, my service representative took it upon himself to do a little research and find a program I qualified for that covered almost all of it.

Great dealership, all the employees are pleasant, helpful and not pushy. Service visits are super easy to schedule and fixes are quick. I usually hang out in the waiting area which is comfortable with snacks and fresh coffee available. Service dept also has late hours which is convenient. Bought both of our Subarus here and wouldn't go anywhere else!

We have bought 6 brand new vehicles in our married life, Ford, Chevy, Dodge...This was our first experience with a Subaru dealership, we had to drive over 80 miles to get there, but they came so highly recommended that we had to 'give it a shot'. Bought the Forester, no pressure, no gameplaying or dickering over the price, the salesperson filled the "bucket list" of what we wanted, never has it been so easy to buy a car. Upon the delivery of our vehicle, financing was prompt and efficient with the paperwork completed properly, and the gentleman that went over the features of our vehicle answered all our questions thoroughly. This is a five star dealership that is worth the drive!!!!!

VanBortel Subaru is a dealership that all the ther dealers should emulate. The car purchase deals arestraight forward without the usual "trading nonsense" and the auto cost is always a small fixed profitover the dealer cost. No dickering ! The service has always been by appointment and is prompt andalways complete. Any additional items noticed are always announced beforehand for customer approval. The prices are always fair and reflect the work done with no extras. All of the employees are always courteous and helpful in any way they can be. The dealership has a dress code and sales as well as service persons courteous and well informed.It is a pleasure to do business with this dealer. I was warmly greeted as I entered the showroom. I described the car I wished to test drive to the receptionist and she told me the salesperson to whom I wished to speak was at lunch. She then invited me to sit down and indicated that someone would come to help me. Within a very few minutes a gentleman was at my side and pointed out to me that the car I was interested in had already been brought to the showroom door. I drove the car for awhile and when I returned to the showroom Therese All had returned from her lunch break. What followed was a very thorough discussion of the particular car I was interested in and which included all the financial options available to me. I had lost my husband of 57 years 6 months previously and this was a whole new experience for me. Everyone was extremely kind and professional helping me through the car buying process and I felt very comfortable throughout this new situation. I had already visited 2 other dealers in my quest for a new car and Van Bortel Subaru is head and shoulders above any other dealers in their professionalism, and all aspects of customer interaction. Van Bortel agreed to take it back (with 1,200 miles) with only a very small fee. Normally about 3 month backlog on new orders for this model, but fortunately turned out they had just received a demo vehicle that was configured the way we wanted, without the troublesome options, and they agreed to trade mine for that, and now have a great car well suited to our needs, and enough money back for next years home heating bill.

The service experience is a smooth operation. This dealership really does value each customer. I always get email confirmation for each appointment that I make . There is always a follow up email asking how about each service experience. I will exclusively use this dealership.

I have been buying new cars for many years. My experience at VanBortel Subaru was unbelievable. Subaru is having a hard time keeping up production with demand on Outbacks. During my three and a half month wait for delivery VanBortel did everything possible to keep me updated. It got to the point where sales manager Pete Rosser was calling me weekly. At delivery I asked to meet Pete. After a nice talk he said come with me to the Business Office. He then told the business manager to take an additional $500 off the invoice. He said it was because we were so patient. That speaks volumes for what kind of dealership they run. They really want people to be happy. The long wait for delivery was well worth it.This is probably the best car we have ever owned.

After researching new cars and visiting my current car dealership, Volvo, my wife & I went to Van Bortel Subaru to look at the new remade 2015 Outback. It was rated quite high and basically had everything my 2010 XC70 had, except better gas milage with AWD ... and much lower cost. We were only 'looking' but our Van Bortel salesman said I should drive one. We liked it and he showed us the 'numbers' and also looked at our car for trade-in. To my surprise, Van Bortel way was 'mirror' to the way Consumer Reports has advise readers to follow, which I have followed for years, with 'Van Bortel cost' and resale. Having done my research it was the suggested CR cost plus and trade-in also mirrored Edmonds 'blue-book' trade in for our area. The problem, there was a long wait for them and we were leaving by end of Feburary for 2 months. Our salesman said let us order it but if you find another car, just let us know and no obligation, no downpayment. Well the car did not come in HOWEVER, 'not your fault', and our salesman stated, if you still want it, it will be here for you when you come back! We came back on a Sunday, we arranged the financing with Van Vortel with a phone call from them while on my trip and picked up the car on Wedneday the week of my return ... all agreement honored and a very happy new car owner. Van Bortel went above & beyone and highly recommend them. I just wonder why the other dealers do not work that way.

Not wanting to wait for the Outback I originally ordered, I took delivery of a Forester which is a fine vehicle but not quite the car for me. The Van Bortel sales people and management went out of their way to work with me and ensure I got the car I really wanted. I now have my Outback and am one happy camper!

I could have bought from a couple of dealers that where 30 min from where I live but after unsuccessfully trying to deal with them I took the drive to Van Bortel where everything was explained up front, no playing the shell game with pricing and trade in. Just straight forward pricing. I have already recommended them to several people. Great Job guys, I know where I will be going when it comes time to buy another car

He always seems to know when it is time for me to make a trade and never tries to talk me into it before then. The service people are excellent....never have had a bad experience there either. They are very good at having your car ready when they tell you and many times it is even done in less than the time they quote you. The staff who I have dealt with always remember me by name when I come in and that is a good feeling knowing that you aren't just another "face" in the crowd. I just got a 2015 Outback from Van Bortel. This is the fifth Subaru I have purchased from them and I will never go anywhere else in the Rochester area. As well, I have always had my cars serviced there and am consistently pleased with the quality of work and friendliness of the staff. I planned on buying a 2015 from the lot the end of October 2014, but when I went in, I discovered that there were none available given the high demand. I was able to order exactly what I wanted and the final price was well below what I had budgeted for. They gave me an excellent price on my 2009 trade-in. In the interim, my brakes were going bad, so I called my salesman. He had them replaced at no cost to me. He told me he wanted me to be safe in my car until my new one arrived. Even though I didn't ask, they also replaced a burned out headlight at no cost and gave me a loaner overnight so I wouldn't have to wait. Even though I now live 30 minutes away from Van Bortel's and there are other Subaru dealers closer to me, I will continue to use them exclusively.

Everything they told me was straightforward and proved true from the quoted price of the vehicle to the estimated delivery time. I was debating between a Nissan Rogue and the Subaru Outback. Vision Nissan salesmen lied to me, raised the price of a used car. I decided to go to Van Bortel and bought the car immediately. Shawn Pies, the salesman was great!!! Let my husband and myself drive the outback, went over the price and gave us an estimate for my trade in. We agreed then we talked to Kevin Hunt and the deal was sealed!!! All the 2014 vehicles were sold so I had to order a 2015, at first it was supposed to be in Canandaigua late Nov. then early Dec. Finally on Dec. 16th it was delivered, I picked it up on Dec. 20th. Shawn said because I was so patient he bought me flowers!! Not sure if he does that for everyone but it sure made my day! I can't say enough about my experience with Van Bortel. I LOVE THE OUTBACK, THE BEST DECISION EVER!!! Runs great. My current Outback is the 6th I have purchased from Van Bortel. I scheduled an appointment for my December inspection plus a check of the windshield wipers for the winter. They replaced the blades and inserts. Driving on the Thruway and in the winter weather, I have greatly appreciated the new wipers! Also had a wonderful chat with Karl Lindemuth during the (short) wait! Thank you!

Took my car in for a last minute appointment made after I had been startled to find some of my electronics had stopped working. After calling to be granted more time for diagnosis, Steve called me to inform me that they had found the problem, and the dealer that had originally sold my car had installed the dealer add-ons incorrectly. To remedy the problem, the Service Department warrantied my claim, and repaired everything that the other dealer had botched. Not only was this done in a timely manner, but it was also done with the utmost amount of quality, as my electronics are now all working better than they had before the issue arose. Having worked in a service department before, I understand the disasters that can happen, and have witnessed plenty firsthand. But Van Bortel made this major repair feel like I had dropped my car off for an oil change. The professionalism by everyone there is second to none, and I'd never even contemplate taking my car somewhere else. Thank you Van Bortel for your assistance, and I look forward to visiting you guys for all of my Subaru needs!

We purchased our 2015 Outback 3.6R online. From the very beginning our experience was superior. Vince, our salesman, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in every step of the process. There was hardly any need to negotiate a price as Van Bortel far surpassed any deal we could make in our home town area. Hence we didn't hesitate to drive the 3 hours to Van Bortel to pick up our car. The deal didn't happen without a hitch however. Literally, through no fault of our salesman, our vehicle arrived in late August only to have the wrong interior color. We verified with Vince that he, indeed, recorded the correct color combination on the initial paper work. (Our hunch is that an error occurred somewhere between the distribution center and the factory) From this point on everyone, including the salesman, sales manager, and finance manager were more than gracious with added discounts to our purchase. You might say they all bent over backward to make things right for us. We placed a new order, waited for an additional 10 weeks, and then picked up our new auto. We were offered delivery of our new Subaru to our residence 3 hours away but chose to pick it up ourselves and visit with friends near Van Bortel's dealership giving us a chance to not only socialize but to show off our new possession. Will we continue to be a client of Van Bortel? You betcha! We've already recommended Van Bortel to our friends. We'll be back in 3 years. We love our 'Baru.

Had my tires rotated at Dunn Tires in Webster, NY. Dunn staff told me my brakes were dangerous and needed to be replaced. I declined and took my car to Van Bortel Subaru. I asked Van Bortel staff Steve Mueller to check my brakes. He told me my brakes were fine. I told him that Dunn Tires said my brakes were dangerous. Steve said he would do a careful double check. He then told me I had approximately 10,000 miles left on my brakes before they would need replacing. Steve could have said that, after checking more closely, I did need new brakes or would need them soon. Instead he was honest about it.Also, my sales person, Theresa All, was great when I purchased my vehicle. I ordered a car and did not like it when it came in. She told me I didn't need to take it and found me a vehicle I liked better. Pretty good customer service.

Went to VanBortel to buy a new Subaru and they were most helpful. I came from Vermont and told them I onlt had two days to complete the sale. I purchased my 5th Subaru, a Cross Trek Hybrid in and hour and a half and they had it ready for me the next morning as promised. The sales person was delightful and I would recommend Jim Bertino to anyone. It was a positive experience all the way around.

I went to VanBortel to buy a new Subaru. There was not doubt that I was going to purchase only a Subaru and this would be my 5th. I came from Vermont and let them know right off the bat that this was going to have to be fast because I had only two days to complete the sale. I purchased a new Cross Trek Hybrid which only took an hour and a half of my time. I left and they had the car ready for me the next morning when I returned. The trade in value I received was good and the price of the new car was also. I will travel from Vermont and buy from them again.The sales person Jim Bertino was helpful, polite and charming.

The sales process has always been great. We have always dealt with Peg Walsh and Kevin Hunt. This dealership really understands and practices customer service. We dont envision ever purchasing a car from anyone else.

We had heard that Van Bortel was a cut above and we had the pleasure of experiencing that with the purchase of our 2015 Outback. Shawn, Jacob and Kevin all handled the questions we had quickly and honestly. It was a pleasant experience buying from them. The car was delivered sooner than promised. We were given and arrival time. We got there early to look over the car before dark. Everything was as expected and any dealer installed options were on and working correctly. We were offered a few options during the paperwork signing, but we did not feel pressured in any way to purchase these options. A good group of folks to work with. Should the outback live up to our expectations and the service department be dependable when we need it, I will definitely purchase here again.

This was by far the best experience I have ever had buying a car. The no pressure environment was wonderful. The sales staff was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. I called when my tire pressure light came on and asked if they could just look at it quick. They said come in today and they would squeeze me in. I went and they took my car right back and also did an oil change without an appointment. They were friendly and professional and I was out of there quickly. Nice to know they can squeeze you in when you need something.

For my first time buying a car, it was one of the easiest and lowest stress experiences I could have hoped for. I inquired online and scheduled an appointment for a test drive with Vince Bovenzi, and the car was waiting outside when I arrived. He sent me off on my own test drive and did not even accompany me. When I returned, we walked through the pricing and I went on my way. There was no mention of signing anything, or any pressure to make a deal that day. The next time I even heard from Van Bortel was when I called backs a few weeks later to inform them that I would be interested in purchasing the car. I did an extensive amount of research on fair purchase pricing for the car (2015 Legacy), and the deal I was offered was more than fair. I was also approved for a lower rate than what my credit union had offered. The business managers I worked with (Steve and Tammi) were also great and made me feel incredibly comfortable during the whole process.I will be returning to Van Bortel to have my car serviced, and look forward to my next buying experience!

I just leased my 3rd Subaru Forester and I see no reason to ever go to any other dealer than Van Bortel. My salesperson keeps me informed as to when to turn my car in and is a pleasure to deal with. Whenever I brought my car in for an oil change//tire rotation, I was taken right at the time of my appointment. Everything about Van Bortel Subaru is excellent. Everyone is big on customer service.

My wife and I came into Van Bortel Subaru looking for a new 2014 Outback to replace our Toyota Rav4. We came in when it was busy on a Saturday and got the next available salesman, Jim Pennell.Well we got one of the best! We told Jim what we were looking for (replacement, with some features but not a ton in order to keep the cost down). He pointed us at an Outback Premium which we drove on our own. We were clear that we were going to do some more cross shopping and would be back once we were ready. He wished us a nice day and we were off.No pressure, no calls. A few weeks later we were ready to buy and called Jim. He helped us pick out a car, and was always responsive to emails. When we came in to sign the paperwork, that was easy too. They just showed us the add ons, and we declined them. They said "ok", and there was no pressure to sell beyond that.It was a great experience and we'll be back next time we need a Subaru!

Don't go here if you want a fair value for your trade.. They offered me about $5,000 lower than the true trade in value of my vehicle. I wanted their best number but it was lower than the much competition. It was the typical back and forth numbers game which became tiring after the second time. Then the sales person does the typical tactic of pointing out possible issues with your vehicle. I walked out as soon as they tried this. Now I will not consider a Subaru in the future and will tell friends and family.

As our 2004 Forester turned over 200,000 miles we picked up our new 2014 Outback! We returned to VanBortel after doing some online research for price comparison, we found they still had the best price and knew they had great service from experience so we returned. Our sales rep. was a great help and we ordered just what we wanted - never pressured to buy what was on the lot. Now we have 2 Subaru's because we are keeping the old one!

Compared to other dealerships I have dealt with in the past including another "No Dicker Sticker" this was the most pleasant, smooth and rewarding experience ever! It was so smooth I barely had to ask a question and the salesman made me feel like the dealership was my friend unlike other experiences I have had with other dealers. I purchased a new 2005 Honda locally and it was a grueling experience but when I left Van Bortle's I felt satisfied and confident about the whole experience and already have recommended Van Bortle to others.

I have purchased many cars in my life, with no experience ever coming close to that of the Van Bortel experience. I was looking at the new Subaru Cross Trek and hadn't had a chance to see the vehicle, so in inquiring online, we received an immediate phone call from Vince who invited us up that day to take a test drive. Vince met us at the door on an incredibly busy Saturday morning, had a demo car waiting for us to test drive, and sent us on our way. Of course, I fell in love with the car, and by the time we came back, Vince had the options and the availability of the vehicle waiting for us to discuss. The vehicle ordering process was flawless, with no pressure whatsoever, and when it came time to pick up the vehicle (it was in sooner than expected as well), the purchase process was handled excellently. We were given a loaner vehicle to take away to have dinner while the final paperwork was being finished, and we drove away with our new vehicle in such a short period of time, I will return to Van Bortel for all of my vehicle needs, even though it is an hour and a half from my home and there are plenty of other Subaru dealers I could go to. I will also refer my friends and family members, that is huge. Thank you Van Bortel for the buying experience of a lifetime. You know customer service and you knock it out of the park!

I took my car to Van Bortel Subaru for its annual state safety inspection and was given the standard NYS safety inspection and the Van Bortel Subaru 28 multi-point inspection. On completion I was given a State Of New York Vehicle Inspection Report and a Van Bortel Subaru 28 Point Service Inspection Form report. The staff were courteous, friendly and prompt and the waiting room was comfortable. I was completely satisfied with my service experience and will be returning for service in the future, as needed.

Walked into Van Bortel Subaru several weeks ago looking to lease a Legacy. I laid out the desired terms, advised them of my (favorable) credit stats and so on, and asked the salesman (Shawn) if we could negotiate a deal. Absolutely, he assured me after discussion of model/trim. I also let him know that I was not in dire straits and had several offers from the competition on similar vehicles at competitive terms. I gave Van Bortel first crack at the deal since I preferred to drive a Subaru and had read good things about the dealership. Again, no problem. Let's make a deal! About a week later I went in for the credit check and the business office meetup. I brought to the table exactly as I had originally advised salesman Shawn... better stats even. Oh, but now the terms have changed from the original offer. Of course they have. Naturally, Shawn and the manager (Peter) were apologetic and assured me that they never meant to mislead, there was confusion on their end, et al. I needn't worry though... I could still drive that terrific car away once I had agreed to the terrible new terms provided by Kevin in the business office! Yeah right. All in all, several hours of family time and a bunch of gas wasted. I can only recommend this dealership if you are not at all concerned with the terms involved with purchasing or leasing your vehicle, or if you simply enjoy being taken advantage of. For a dealership that touts themselves as different from the rest they seem par for the course as far as the Rochester area goes. Looks like some national competition is coming to the area soon which is terrific. I won't ever buy a car in this area again unless it's a firesale... deals abound from motivated sellers in PA or the southeast. Thanks for reading.

This retailer is impressive in their attention to comfort. There is a side entrance leading to an attractive waiting room with an impeccable snack area hosting fresh complimentary coffee of several varieties, flavored creamers, gourmet biscotti, other healthy packaged snacks, and comfortable seating. Near this is a receptionist who politely awaits you to approach her regarding your business. My salesperson Teresa was very sharp, very knowledgeable about the vehicles and options, and not pushy at all. She also didn't just hop in the car beside me while test driving. What a relief. I plan to buy my dream car from Teresa at Van Bortel and highly recommend this facility to any car shopper.

Nicest auto retailer I have visited. Side entrance leads to a "waiting room" complete with coffee urns holding variously flavored fresh coffees from the nearby gourmet coffee company, flavored creamers, biscotti, granola bars and nuts. No swoopage by eager salesmen. After the initial shock you see the receptionist who politely waits for you to make an inquiry. The center floor holds a couple feature vehicles and the salemen's desks are decentralized on the periphery. My salesperson, Teresa, is very sharp, knowledgeable about the various vehicles and options. She provides the keys and the car and doesn't just hop in the tester beside you. This has an immediately calming effect. I have not yet bought my vehicle as I am in the final selection stage but when I do it will be from Teresa at Van Bortel.

I bought my 2010 Legacy from Jeremy V. and all I can say is that the entire process from start to finish was top notch. The "no pressure" atmosphere was so refreshing and the deal that I got was great. Their pricing was the best and you can tell that they don't cut any corners when it comes to reconditioning the used cars.

I live in the Binghamton area and bought my first 2 subarus from Matthews and helped my nephew buy his there as well. In 2008 when I was looking for a new impreza, Van Bortel gave me a great price on the new car and gave me blue book value on my trade in. Matthews matched the new car price, but tried to undercut the trade in by $1000 as Karl from Van Bortel predicted. That sold me and I bought from Van Bortel. In 2010 when we were looking for a new forester, the same thing happened. Despite the fact I had bought 2 cars previously from Matthews, they tried to over price the car and underprice the trade in to the tune of $1200. Again, I bought from Van Bortel. Call Van Bortel or contact them via email. Ask for Carl Lindemuth .. great salesman .. they don't mess with you, they offer a great price up front.

I purchased a used 2008 tribecca. The sales people were prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable about the product. The sales process was fair and equitable. I thought the selection of cars was fairly broad and compared to other subaru dealers, it was quite extensive in selection and prices. The only negative for me, as a person who typically had luxury cars, was the inability to have the purchase transaction completed in the same day. It was spread over two, almost 3 days and that was a bit too long. I would have preferred to purchase the car and have it ready for me by that day. Once we got the car, it was in immaculate condition, so I guess it was worth wating on.

The staff are friendly but their mission is to try to sell you as many parts as they can. Example: The support arm on the hatchback failed on one side. They came back with a recommendation that I fix both sides as the one may be weakened (but is still working perfectly). Why? Why would you fix this before it has broken? The main issue was that my head gasket was leaking. This is a known Subaru issue and affects Subaru's all over the country. The fix is expensive. The sales manager blamed me and NY weather. Apparently, I missed the 60k maintenance with them - although I have this carried out at another garage. The worst was when I asked how much they would give me for a trade in value as the repairs are so costly. Well, this is a 2003 Outback with 83,000 miles with a full service record but had the big repair work (head gasket) yet to do... Edmunds gives a value of about $4,000 for rough condition. Van bortel value: $800. That was just insulting.The manager also was very upsetting by saying that my car wasn't safe to drive so I was in a panic and not thinking clearly. I had them stop work (thankfully) and they kept the car overnight. The next day when I had done some research (called my usual mechanic) and talked to the manager again, it turns out that my car isn't really unsafe but could, sometime in the unforeseeable future, break down. van Bortel puts my safety first, apparently. Really?Note: The car was driving GREAT. I only took it in because the sensors had gone and the check engine light was on (another Subaru problem). van Bortel wanted to do about $4k worth of work to make my car "safe" and in reality I spent about $500 and everything is great according to my other, very honest and reliable mechanic who we have worked with four years. I will have to have the head gasket replaced sometime but can wait a while and keep an eye on it until it is time to replace the timing belts.

I went to VanBortel ready to buy a car. I arrived at 2 pm and looked around a bit. I went inside to see if I could talk to someone. I sat there in the waiting room while others were helped for over 20 minutes. When I asked again to speak to someone, the receptionist told me to just grab someone. As I went outside again, Shawn came out. Although he was looking at two of us, I asked Shawn if I could test drive a car. He said the keys are in each car and to grab the one I wanted to drive and he would meet me in the front with plates. I did as he asked. I waited there for over twenty more minutes. I put the car back and went and bought a Nissan. I understand no pressure, but no customer service? I travelled farther to this dealership because of their reputation. Boy was I wrong!
