I was in the market for two vehicles. One for me and one for my daughter. I knew what I wanted for myself. I had very detailed requirements and Basic found me exactly what I wanted without the pressure of buying something that was not a perfect fit. They emphasized making sure that we selected the vehicle that I wanted and not to just settle on something. I valued that honest approach and it made me feel really comfortable right from the start without any of the pressures that come from buying a car. Basic Auto Sales was patient with gathering my specific requirements and matched them up to just the right vehicle for me which was a beautiful Nissan Murano. They even provided me a copy of the carfax report that showed the service history of the vehicle. I could see that the car was well maintained buy the prior owner and that it was never in an accident which was important to me. As for my second car for my daughter it had to be "cool" in my daughters eyes and in my book a good value for the dollar. We found a white Jeep Patriot that my daughter fell in love with right on the lot among their broad inventory and it fit my budget also. I am a big stickler on safety and I noticed that a couple of the tires were getting lower on tread so I asked them if they would put on new tires and through negotiation they included two new tires in the deal. Come to find out they have a full service mechanic shop as part of the dealership that I could use in the future for any repairs or oil changes. This made it very convenient having a one stop shop that knew what they were doing but also had the resources to meet my new tire request in a timely fashion. One of my expectations that I explained to my Sales Person Joe Duval was that I did not want to spend all day at the dealership once I was ready to purchase. I wanted to be in and out. Joe made sure that he planned in advance as much of the paperwork that was required to purchase the vehicle so that I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time come the day of purchase of my two cars. I appreciated his due diligence and being prepared not only with the Vehicles but also the car buying experience. Joe returned all of my text and calls on the spot when I had questions and if he did not know the answer he found the answers to my questions. I am not an easy person to sell to because I have been in sales all my life so when I come across a person that sells in a consultitive and professional manner I like to make sure other people know about it which is why I am even taking the time to write this review. I would recommend Basic Auto Sales to my friends and family after this experience. Well done Basic Auto Sales!

Two years ago, we were recommended to visit this dealership by a gentleman that my husband was working for, and we called Kory, who immediately assisted us. We were able to purchase a truck for a great price, with a quick financing situation, and it has served us well for two years, without a single problem. This past week, we realized we needed something bigger to pull a new camper, and so my husband reached out again, and was put in touch with Harley. Within 24 hours, we had a new (to us) Ford 250 Diesel - the truck my husband has always wanted, for a great price, and with a better financing situation than even before. Our second experience was as stress-free and smooth as our first, and we cannot say enough about the Owner and Staff at Basic Auto Sales. Our truck may be anything but basic, but this is the kind of dealership where you can get as little or as much as you need, with a simple phone call and/or visit, and know that you are in trustworthy hands. Car buying is NO ONE's favorite pastime, which is why I would so highly recommend this dealer - they make it simple, and they are KIND and attentive, rather than aggressive - as is so often the case. Harley couldn't have been any sweeter. Any time you can combine knowledge and passion with a humble attitude, you have it made! Steve, the Business Manager, took care of the finances for us without a single hiccup - and was so nice to deal with. If you are looking for a vehicle at a GREAT price, and are keen to abandon the "usual" car sales experience for a unique one, with hard-working but sincerely good people - look no further! We hope to enjoy this truck for some time, but when the time is right, we will venture no further than Basic Auto Sales in Ashland. I have bought multiple cars over the years from Basic Auto Sales. The most recent was a 2009 Ford Expedition. The sales person provided very good customer service while not being pushy and seemed to care about what our needs were more than simply selling us a car. I originally had planned to buy a Suburban but they showed me an Expedition EL with nice options at a great price. Since then, they have also serviced both of my vehicles and continually provide high customer service at a good price.

I am writing to amend my review of this dealership previously written on October 26, 2015. As mentioned, my family came in to purchase an advertised Chrysler van that was ultimately replaced with a different vehicle, which we purchased. through serendipitous events the rear lift-gate came to be dented. When i brought the car to a body shop i was advised that half the lift-gate was putty having been repaired from a major accident. Furthermore, that there had been extensive cover up body work to the rear driver side of the vehicle. The car fax showed no accidents, but a second body shop confirmed the amount of repair due to damage. When i brought this to the attention of Basic Auto and insisted that they repair the lift-gate to its original structural integrity - AS A MATTER of safety for me and my family, they explained that they sold it based on the car fax and it was my problem. I could pay them to fix it but that was the extent of it. Furthermore, and incredulously, they told me that they also were misled by the car fax report and therefore they are as much a victim as i was. Of course this did not prevent them from charging me the full mark up at the point of sale and refusing any follow up. I will say that Joe Duval, the sales person, did step up and try to intercede on my behalf with management/service but his efforts were as fruitless. So my warning to all potential clients, be wary of this dealership. What they offer in selection is offset by their follow through and integrity to stand behind the safety of their product. Any random person can post a listing on Craigslist and claim that they stand behind the car fax as if it is some mystical shield that protects them from having to inspect the vehicles they sell. One would have hoped and expected a dealership with a service department to inspect their vehicles better and stand behind what they sell and not just a piece of paper.

No pressure during selection process! Very accommodating salesman and manager as this purchase was being made by my 82 year old mother stepping up from a sedan to a crossover. Working within her budget and educating her on benefits of her selections I felt as though she were a family member of the salesman assisting us.

We had been searching everywhere for the perfect car for my daughter to drive back and forth to college. Even offered to take it to Roanoke to deliver if we were not able to get everything done that day. Harley was very attentive in helping us find a safe, good gas mileage car for our daughter. He was very helpful and personable and we will definitely go back for our other daughter who will be needing a car soon. Everyone was very personable and outgoing and it was a pleasure to work with the staff.

After searching around for a Honda Odyssey, we ended up purchasing a vehicle from Basic Auto. They were very accommodating to help us make a decision. We love the van and the price fit in our budget. A week after the sale was made, I realized I had left my sunglasses there. The salesman didn't want me to have to make the 40 minute drive to pick them up, so he met me at 6:30am just so I wouldn't have to go out of my way. Completely unexpected, especially since the sale was complete. We will definitely be purchasing our next vehicle from them and recommending all our friends go here.

We were not even fully committed to buying a car, we were just stopping by to discuss our options and to see if it was something that we could afford in the future. However, Joe was amazingly helpful, and found us a car we loved at a price we could afford that day! We were able to drive it home that evening, and we're able to get the payment that we wanted with a low down payment. And they gave us a great trade in rate on a car that we were not driving anymore. My family was in the market for a used vehicle and we found this dealership advertising a good deal on a Chrysler. When we arrived at the dealership, the particular car was no longer available. Undeterred, Basic Auto put together an offer that was even BETTER than the one i came in for. The entire process went smoothly from the quote to the financing and close. Follow up service for tags, licensing, and detailing was equally as superb with a keen attention to both detail and customer service. I would highly recommend this dealership to anyone in the market. We'd been needing to buy a vehicle for quite some time and were having difficulty deciding on exactly what we needed/wanted. We followed the advice of a friend and called Basic Auto Sales. After talking it over with Kory and Monroe, they offered us an opportunity to test drive a Honda Odyssey overnight. After driving the Odyssey, we had no further question as to the make and model of vehicle we wished to purchase! Although that particular van wasn't the exact match for our family, we at least now knew the direction in which we were heading. The search was on as Kory and Monroe began looking for a Honda Odyssey with all the features we wanted and in no time at all we had the perfect van for the Browder family! They went so far above and beyond their call of duty in assisting us with finding a vehicle that met our every need/want and much, much more! I went to Basic Auto Sales because I saw a Toyota Highlander on their internet site that appeared to be just what I was looking for. They were close by, so I went there. The vehicle was even nicer than I expected! They offered to let us take it home overnight. After returning the next morning, we did some negotiation and we got the car for a very fair, affordable price. My wife is thrilled! They were all very friendly, and Rebeckah was great to work with. I would recommend them.

Basic Auto Sales management/sales team very unprofessional. Called and acknowledged that I would like to purchase a van they had on lot that I found on Cars.com but would need it shipped as I live in Ohio.....they made it sound like it would be no big deal to make it happen. Then proceeded to lie and hide when it came down to me contacting them back to find out where the deal stood. The dealership would not anwer the phone or text messages! Upfront and honest are always good things to view in a dealership and you will not find either one of those two things at Basic Auto Sales!!! Very disappointing experience!

My experience was rated 5 star excellence. The customer service received from Doc stands up against no other. When others made guarantees and COULD NOT deliver, Doc stood by everything he told me. The staff is friendly and never looks at you like a number but as a person. The vehicles are in great condition, with low mileage. There were no hidden factors. I will definitely continue doing business with them and I have already referred several other individuals.

This review is to give our experience with Basic Auto. While some people may have had different experiences with Basic, we cannot comment on their stories, all we can do is share ours.We found a car online (at either autotrader or cars.com) that Basic had, a Nissan 2012. The first time we went to see the car, we saw it at the downtown location which honestly looks a little sketchy. Its a bit old and looks somewhat run down, but the staff there treated us fine, everyone was very friendly and we were able to look the car over and take it on a test drive. It had some cosmetic issues on the interior, but the engine, transmission, breaks, etc all seemed to be in good working order and the body looked great with no dents or dings. About a week later, I called the manager of the Asheland branch on the phone, named Gavin. We made a deal over the phone and he accepted my (slightly below fair KBB) offer which took into consideration the interior cosmetic issues. I was a little skeptical of the dealership at first because they are not a national chain or franchise (ie, Honda, Nissan, GM, etc) and the W Broad St address made them look more like a shady kind of dealership. But the car seemed in good condition and in every conversation I had had with Gavin on the phone, he was straight to the point, professional, and no non-sense, without any high pressure tactics. So we decided to go for the car and figured if it checked out with a mechanic, why not buy it.The Asheland location is a really nice, brand new location that is every bit as modern as the national chains. We were able to pick the car up at the time we were told and the car checked out fine at our mechanic. It had one minor mechanical issue that was confirmed (by the mechanic and online) that it was an issue with Nissan itself (it wasnt something neither a previous owner nor any dealership could have done). Even though I had already made a deal with Gavin, when I told him what the mechanic said, him and I discussed it and then he gave me 2 fair options. I thought this was extremely fair of him.At no time, did Gavin or any other employee of Basic Auto try any slick wheelin n dealin or in any way come across as anything other than professional businessmen who have a good product and want to sell it at a fair price and are working hard to get return business. Ive bought several cars in my life and Basic Auto was, in our opinion, as professional as any other dealer weve ever been to, if not slightly more. They handled the tags and title with no problem and mailed them to my address as promised. Its been 8 weeks since we drove off the lot and have not had one single problem with the car no whats that light, or whats that noise, or why isnt this thing working right nothing. Period. The car has worked perfect. Its a 3 year old car with 75,000 miles and we havent had one single issue with it. The minor mechanical issue well need to get fixed, but overall, we got a great car at a great price. Again, I cant speak for or against what others have experienced there. All I can do is share our story and maybe this will help others.

So I love these guys..second vehicle purchased here on top of several ppl from my job getting great vehicles at super prices. My credit was non existent first vehicle but they still got me riding nicely. Thru some amazing program ..ask for Mr Ruiz ..Eric. My credit in a year in a half is thru the roof n I'm eligible for what was impossible at below dirt intetrest....car wise if they don't have it they will get it for u...great consistent communication throughout the buying process n no high pressure sales relaxed location n attentive kind staff .. Bought a 2007 DTS Cadillac with the Northstar engine which I was hesitant about in the first place, told them I would not leave the lot without a warranty which they ended up throwing in a free year warranty but reduced the price of the car to work the financing work out. After I got the car home I found it had a massive oil leak from the oil pan gasket. Took it back in to their shop and the shop manager Mike informed me that the oil pan gasket was the only gasket not covered under warranty even though the sales manager Eric said it would be. To replace the oil pan gasket would cost about $1700 which they would not cover either. Eric the manager said he would make it right by letting me trade the car in on something else so I could get out of the Cadillac situation. After a couple months I saw a vehicle on the lot that I wanted to trade for and we started the paper work only to find that they wanted to give me less that nada/kbb for a trade in which was half of what I bought the car from them just months earlier. Basic said they did an inspection before it was sold but there was no way that Basic did not know about the massive oil leak. Basic Auto Sales knowingly sells vehicles with problems and issues and doesn't bother to inform the customers, they are a true used car sales company and do not care about the customer. I was also a repeat customer with buying my first truck from them in 2004.Stay away from Basic Auto Sales and especially the snake oil salesman manager Eric.

I purchased a 2004 Ford Explorer from Basic on Broad Street in April of 2013. My car would not go into reverse so I had it towed. Well, the car needs a new transmission. The mechanic stated that the trasmission went because of the pump was not working properly. He also mentioned the Tort Converter and the planater Gear was shot. I called Basic s/t Joel and asked him about the extended warrenty that I know I discussed at the time of sale with Steve. He was supposed to get back with me yesterday... no call. I called today .. Bobby answered the phone and I asked to speak with Joel. He placed me on hold and then said he needed to take a message. I asked if he was with a client or had left for the day and he stated that " he only does what he is asked to do". They are basically giving me the run around. Piece of Junk car, Over-priced and no customer service when there is an issue.

After upgrading to a fifth wheel, my wife and I decided to buy a larger truck than we currently had. We found two identical F250s at two different dealers about 70 miles away from where we live. Given the similarity, it came down to price and experience. When we went to Basic, we were greeted immediately and actually treated like customers. The other dealer made us wait considerably longer to speak to someone then again when we wanted to get a trade-in valuation. Rick went out of his way to make sure our experience was not the normal used car push. Even before we came down, he helped me get an estimate on my trade and answered every question I asked about the potential truck. He didnt hassle us over the deal, and we ended up negotiating a fair price on both the new truck and the trade in. The rest of the experience (finance, detailing, etc.) was equally smooth and professional. I would definitely recommend Basic to any of my friends who live in the area, and very specifically, I would recommend Rick as the salesman. His laid back attitude and willingness to work with us on our budget and with the vehicle was what truly sealed the deal for me.

The issue below has been resolved. I do not believe it would be fair to delete my review because it is what I experienced. Please note that the owner Mr. Kory Hummer was a pleasure to work with as well Ned.I would still recommend Ned; however, the service given by management to an unsatisfied customer has not been a great experience for me. I purchased the car with the impression that I had until 09/01 to come up with the rest of the down payment (I only had $1000 of the $1750 they were requesting), not knowing the the dealership would take it upon themselves to do what they wanted in the meantime. My check was cashed prior to the 1st ( 08/27 to be exact, after expressing that I would not be able to come up with the rest of the down payment). I am being forced into a vehicle that I do not need and a debt that I expressed concern about. No one seems to care that I am a single mother and can not afford this car, especially since I found out that I can keep the car that I currently have, a car that I am making payments on. Within 3 days I emailed my concerns about keeping the car, no one responded, it is all about a dollar with them. I appreciate the time that was taken that night to get me into a car but when its not beneficial to the dealership they shut down and no one wants to help. Spoke to the secretary of the owner and was given no estimated time that I would hear back, meanwhile, they have the car back and $1000 of my money.

My husband and I highly recommend Rick Waters at Basic Auto Sales if you're looking to buy another vehicle. We knew what we wanted and had a strict budget when it came to buying a newer vehicle. After being told by other dealers that our budget wasn't realistic, Rick and the rest of the Basic Auto guys listened and did everything possible to get us what we needed. I came to the dealership not knowing what to expect and was delightfully surprised when I started working with Rick Waters in sales. He is very friendly, professional, and dresses very neatly. Rick is very knowledgeable and asks lots of questions to get a full understanding of the needs of the customer. He was accommodating by allowing me to test drive more than 1 type of vehicle. He managed to locate a vehicle in the shop that I had seen on the internet but was not on the lot. I was able to test drive that vehicle as well & I purchased it. It is a 2008 Kia Sportage with very low miles and a great price. I purchased the extended warranty after Rick explained in great detail how the coverage worked. I enjoyed working with Rick, as he makes one feel comfortable with the buying experience and does not apply any pressure. I have recommended this dealership & Rick to other folks looking for reasonably priced, good quality cars along with professional & courteous sales people.

Basic Auto Sales had the perfect vehicle for us at a great price. We had been looking for months and unable to find the right car and the right price. It was clean, and in nice condition. Scott Timberlake went above and beyond in providing excellent customer service by bring my old car back to my house to drop it off since I did not have a way to pick it up myself. Everything went smoothly and I am pleased with the vehicle. The only problem I encountered was that the wiper blades on the vehicle "shredded" on the first use, though the vehicle had very recently passed inspection. Basic did not correct the problem yet I had had the car way less than 1000 miles. I take some responsibility as I should have checked more closely when I purchased the vehicle. My salesman was excellent but could not make the less than $30 repair happen. Always be sure to check all the details carefully. Wiper blades are NOT a big deal but they can make a buyer wonder what ELSE they missed.

The staff at Basic Auto was friendly and very efficient in their sales transaction. Richard Waters, Sales Associate was knowledgeable, energetic and hard working.I did have two issues with the car... -upon pick up of the vehicle, there appeared a windshield defect (rock chip) that had NOT be present in the actual day of purchase. The staff at Basic did arrange for the chip to be repaired at mys residence in a very timely manner; -the wiperblades on both the driver side and the passenger side "shredded' on the first use in a rainstorm less than a week after I took delivery of the car. The car was inspected and passed in February 2014 and delivery was in April yet the wiper blades were in bad shape.Basic Auto did not replace the blades, though I was way less than the warranted 1,000 miles. The salesman was very respectful but the dealership did not replace. My feeling is that they should have installed new wiper blades. I "missed" the opportunity to check the blades at the driving test but nonetheless I believe that that small fix would go a long way in making a customer feel that they back what they sell.Again, the salesman could NOT have been nicer or more professional but the dealership is watching its bottom line to the detriment of customer satisfaction. A friend riding with me in my "new car" was appalled that the car needed wiper blades and lectured me for not using Luck Chevrolet. I could not defend my position, which was personally disappointing.

Basic Auto Sales was a very good experience for me. When I first arrived the dealership was very busy, so I didn't get much service. After I asked about a vehicle Kevin Chancey ( Sales and Credit Consultant) continued to help me as much as possible. Kevin and the GM was very helpful in answering any questions, and providing information I needed for the vehicle. The quality of the vehicle was great, it only had two flaws that I could recognize. The two flaws was interior cosmetic damage that could not be repaired, from previous owners. I have had the car for awhile now, and it continues to be everything I wanted plus more. The team at Basic Auto Sales continues to communicate and keep me up to date with everything. They are very helpful, I would defiantly recommend this company to a friend or colleague.

I can't say enough about the way the entire staff at Basic Auto Sales goes about their business! I can't begin to say enough good things about the overall service, patience, kindness and professionalism. Not only was Jake very knowledgeable about the vehicle, he actually taught me several important tips on buying used vehicles. He also showed me every "like" vehicle in a 100 mile radius which actually validated that Basic Auto offers the best prices on quality vehicles in the area. First off, I walked in the door and they all just looked at me. I asked for my sales guy and he took all of my paperwork. No one was friendly at all or making conversation. The financial guy was the rudest because he had no interest in putting me in a decent vehicle. They basically printed off a bunch of approval sheets with vehicles that I had no interest in. They wanted me to pay 11,000 dollars for a vehicle that was 7 years old and had been in 2 accidents. They are money hungry and very rude. I WOULD NOT REFER ANYONE TO THIS DEALERSHIP!!!!

This is the fourth car I've bought and I talked to them before I got there. When I arrived everything was set in order and ready to go for me. Numbers, prices, car payment , paperwork, etc. they gave me options that I like, I had never experienced that before them. I would go again and tell all my friends. The people were so nice and treated you like family.

I knew the car I wanted (2012 VW Golf TDI) and found one at Basic. When I went out for a test drive, I met the dealer Jeff Trautman, he let me test drive and helped me apply for financing. The rate that they provided me was a little higher than I would have liked, so I applied for a loan with a local credit union. The only reason I gave the overall experience a 4 star not a 5 was the fact that every time I called for Jeff someone else would try to close the deal, or say he wasn't there. I called three times and my calls for Jeff were never returned, later to find out he was not getting the message, I felt comfortable with Jeff and he knew where I stood status wise and I kind of felt other dealers just wanted to steal the deal vs give me the best customer service possible. Overall it was a good experience, I recieved a great car at a good price, however I feel the deal could have been executed quicker with better communication amongst the employees

We purchased a 2005 Land Rover LR3 from the Ashland store, It was one of the easiest and fastest transactions I have experienced with an auto purchase. The price was very competitive with the surrounding market and they arrange my financing through a nationwide lender at a very low rate that kept me from taking additional time off to arrange myself with my credit union. I would recommend this dealer to everyone I know and come in contact with. Great service and selection

***WARNING***If you are looking anytime to go to an dealership to buy a new or used car.I would RECOMMEND that you run AWAY as far as you can get from Basic Auto Sales Ashland,Va and the West Broad St location Richmond,Va.These people are nothing bout a BIG ripoff to the community and surrounding Richmond area.They will put you in vehicles that it not fit for the road,but tells you that the vehicle is an excellent vehicle,then once you have driven it off the lot and you find out different.These people does not show you any car faxes on the vehicles you are looking at,nor answers any questions correctly that you ask them about the car.when you take it back to them,and tell them what is wrong,they then looks at you like you are crazy.Every vehicle that is financed there,they puts a GPS tracking device on it,which I found I later.When I asked the general manager about it.He tells me that the bank requires them to do that.I wouldn't recommend my worsted enemy to go there and the next time I need to buy a car,I would go to a junk yard before I would go back there again.

Bought a 2003 Ford Explorer limited the very end of October 2012. Had issues from day one: smoke being discharged from left rear tire and CD player not working. Had to make the long trek back there twice to have the issues addressed. 2 months later a cylinder went-had to replace that so 250.00 I was not happy. A mechanic there told me that the rear brakes were brand new and they were not. After 6 months of ownership the engine went. I wasn't offered an extended warranty when I made the purchase so was SCREWED. I notified them and told so much. Please do not shop here or at their Richmond location on Broad Street!!! I now highly recommend Drivetime for folks with credit issues. They have decent vehicles and solid extended warranties-they go over everything with you. Wish I had gone there first. Don't make the huge mistake that apparantly many folks have by purchasing a lemon at Basic.
