This naturally aspirated powerplant produces approximately 140 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque, delivering a commendable balance between spirited driving dynamics and reliable operation. The OHV configuration utilizes a pushrod design, contributing to a compact engine profile well-suited for the Fieros mid-engine layout. The car only weighs 2,500 lbs, giving it a healthy power to weight ratio. This power unit emphasizes smooth power delivery throughout the rev range, offering responsive acceleration ideal for both city cruising and spirited backroad performance. Mated typically with a 4-speed manual transmission, the Fiero GT allows drivers precise control over gear selection, enhancing the engaging driving experience that this sporty coupe is known for. ### Chassis and Suspension The 1986 Fiero GT employs an innovative mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) architecture that was unprecedented among American cars targeted at the affordable sports segment at the time. The mid-engine layout, with the engine located centrally behind the passenger compartment, results in excellent weight distributionroughly 40% front, 60% rearthat enhances handling balance and road-holding capability. The suspension system features independent front and rear setups. Upfront, MacPherson struts provide precise steering response and strong lateral grip, while the rear utilizes a sophisticated independent suspension with coil springs and struts, contributing to stable cornering and absorbed road imperfections. This configuration results in crisp handling dynamics, inspiring confidence whether navigating twisty roads or daily commutes. ### Exterior Features and Styling The 1986 Fiero GT showcases a bold, angular design signature of 1980s automotive aesthetics, characterized by sharp body lines and a wedge-shaped profile that emphasizes speed and agility even at a standstill. The car measures approximately 165.5 inches in length with a 98.4-inch wheelbase, compact enough for urban maneuverability while maintaining a presence on the road.
