The Hellcat name was borrowed from the Grumman F6F Hellcat, a World War II Navy fighter plane, and the engine that carries the name was developed under a secret internal project called Operation Tomcat that almost never got approved. When Dodge finally revealed it, the response was overwhelming and demand far exceeded anything they had anticipated. The 2016 Challenger SRT Hellcat is the most powerful American muscle car ever built at the time of its production, and this one is finished in Pitch Black Clearcoat with a black interior from one end to the other. The Hellcat also comes with two key fobs. The red one unlocks all 707 horsepower. The black one limits it to 500. It is the kind of detail only Dodge would think of.
