When I bring my VW into Compass, I am greeted with a smile and a "how can I help?" - I didn't purchase my vehicle at their dealership, but that has never been an issue. If it will be an overnight stay, they offer a loaner if one is available.I imagine anyone who has paid even a dollar more than they figure they should have will give any service department a bad rating. Go find out for yourself.

I bought a Passat SEL from Compass and the sales experience was fine. The next step was the service dept. First 2 services appointments had the car returned with grease stains on door handle and black kick marks on moldings. Next service the NAV unit had to be replaced and the tech scratches the console while replacing it. Dan asks incredulously If I was looking for a new part? I state I'd like them to repair the damage they caused, however they don't fix it. Next visit the NAV unit freezes up and they return it still not working so back I go. Next time I bring it in for broken AC which they diagnose as blown blower. It's taking over a week to get the replacement part...so now I have a car that I can't drive in steaming humid weather because there is no defogger. The service dept needs a big upgrade

Terrible service!!! Service department needs an overhaul. Brought in the car for light bulb replacement since it was defective from factory 3 times and still didn't fix the problem. On top of this, they leave their dirty shop gloves in the car, and the headliner is dirty of grease. Did nothing but stare at me, when I showed them that they made it dirty. Complained to manager Jeff Neckers and he asked as to why do we come to the dealership if I am not satisfied. Simply told us to go somewhere else. Has very poor customer service skills, does not care about the customer and on top of that they also mock their customers. VW of America take notice of this. Don't be fooled by the high star rating. Most are simply friends and family.

I've only had my Passat in for a couple of warranty items/recalls and each time something gets broken on my car that they try to claim was already like that. FIrst was gouging my wheel (19" audi) on the side of their building and next was ripping one of my foglights out of it's mount (tech glued the broken bulb back in place).The one other big item... they billed VW for a service that wasn't done on my car. I did the 10k service myself and they billed VW for it - and admitted it. Pretty much blew me off when I questioned them on it. Think I'll try Newton VW instead.*** 8/2016 UPDATE*** I've used Hudson Valley VW for some work since this review. I saw bad reviews for Newton NJ and Hudson Valley VW is closer. So far so good... Normal routine of bring it in to confirm a part is bad, then order and come in a second time for the install. But - fixed right the first time and nothing broken on the car!!! Since it was cold out at the time, they gave me a coupon to use down the road at an actual car wash (unlike Compass that washes about 70% of the car).I've also now seen one of the Compass Service advisors over at Middletown Nissan so keep that in mind!

Austin was great! I waited at the service place for my vehicle. I appreciated the frequent service status updates from Austin. The updates made the wait seem less and that I was NOT forgotten.The waiting area was clean and aesthetically pleasing. I like that there are two waiting areas where you can read quietly (which I prefer) or watch television in the other area.One recommendation is while I appreciated the car wash it would be good if car was towel dried. Overall it was a good visit.

I had an oil and filter change, and they also rotated my tires. I had several coupons which they honored without problems. While I was waiting, they offered me a 20% off coupon at IHOP, which I used for delicious breakfast. COMPASS Motors offers the coupons for their customers while they wait for their car to be serviced. When my car was ready, I saw that it was cleaned and vaccumed inside. Very nice! It runs great. I'll be back!

Too make a long story short, I had my Jetta tdi serviced at Compass Motors. which I had purchased from another vw dealer which was too far away to get the car back there without towing it. I wanted the car to be close to home so I called your service dept. Austin got the car right in for service to figure out all the problems I was having. I want to let you know I drove the car only 200 miles home and started having problems with it. I figured this car was possessed, and my night mare was going to begin. but then Austin came to my rescue. He had the car checked out, dealt with the warranty company, and then order the parts .Ausin also set up a rental car for me through the warranty company. He made my experience stress free.. It was great. He was extremely professional, courteous,and friendly kept his word to me when he said he would give me a call to let me know what was goin on , he absoluely did...I have been to a few service dept at other dealers in my life but yours rate #1. TheJetta is now fixed and all the problems are solved. Im not even worried if I should ever need service again.. I know Austin and his team of workers will be there for me...Oh by the way Im loving my JETTA TDI, and the fuel mileage but not the speeding ticket LOL....Thanks again Austin and all the mechanic at Compass....Fran

Took my car in for 10,000 mile check up. Also requested other work like new snow tires, adding a new component, and detailing. The length of things I wanted dealt with was long enough that I was worried I was being high maintenance. Then I met Brian of Service face to face and found out he is a bigger car nut than I am. He told me about how he pampers his cars and that put me at ease. He even pointed out that he could fix the rim that my wife scratched on a curb, something that was bugging me but I was not sure how to address. When I picked up the car it was like it was fresh from the factory again. Brian walked me through the paperwork and showed me all the updates on the car. This is not my first car nor my first dealership. Brian's industry experience, the fact that he wrenches on his own vehicles, and his people skills made this one of the best experiences I have had at any car dealership.

Second visit to dealership for service. First visit was outstanding. This one less so. Austin is our "service rep" and he was not there when I dropped off the car or picked it up. Good experience with "replacement service rep" (don't know his name) going over bill, etc. Paid bill, got keys and went to get my car outside. Had to walk all around the building tryiing to find it. Stopped in service bay area and guy there came with me to try and find my car. It was totally on the opposite side of the service entrance. Last time car was washed after service and it was a pleasure to get into a repaired and clean car! This time, while I could tell someone had started something they did not finish. Wheels where cleaned (but then, I had the tires rotated and re-balanced). But car was dirtier than it was when I brought it due to construction dust. And someone had left two "post it" type air fresheners in the cup holder which I assume would have been removed when the car was cleaned. And as a result car had a very overwhelming scent of air freshener.... which is still there this morning when I drove the car to work.

After multiple nightmares dealing with that service department with my GTI and my wife's TDI Sportwagen I can never bring myself to deal with them again - on any level. There was no wait to check vehicle in for service. The service representative, Austin, was polite courteous and a complete professional during my entire time waiting for my car to be completed. He advised me that the waiting area had complimentary coffee, and several times came over to advise me the status of my service as well as to inquire if there was anything I needed.

Long story short, I broke my rear view mirror. I came in during the afternoon hoping to get my car fixed, well, right away. I was greeted at once. Ryan listened to my story, looked at the car, did not try to diagnose the problem. By that I mean he gave me as much information as he had and then assured me my car was in good hands. He found a spot for me. He gave me a time frame that I would wait. He explained the hourly rate. Armed with this information I could chose stay or come back later. I chose stay. The shortest amount of time and a very agreeable service charge later I was in my car and on my way home. Why is this important? It is because I was made to feel like Compass Motor's favorite customer by a very nice person that believe I might have been a little cranky to in the past. Andres not only fixed my mirror, but he had it in the absolute perfect spot. No adjusting needed. Thank-you, thank-you!

I rated this based on my return to the dealership the day after my service appointment. The day of my service I was quoted on a scratch I wanted to fix while it was there for an oil change. Shortly after leaving I noticed a new scratch which I think happened when the car was washed. I called the service department and left a message about it but didn't hear back. The next day I went back and Rich helped me without any problems and my scratches were fixed and the car was washed again. He gave excellent customer service and always is super friendly.

Service representative (Austin) was very polite and informing. He made sure I understood what was being done to my car and made sure the right person attended to it. He was also able to assist with how and where I could get accessories and parts for my vehicle. I was then able to talk to the mechanic (Rob) who was also very polite and filled me in again about my car, which was very appreciated because he knows mazda's so well and not all mechanics will come out of the bay to explain stuff to a customer. Even tho I live 45 minutes away from compass motors, I would travel that distance to have my car serviced because not many places nowadays will you find service like this.

Both automobiles were bought from Compass Motors in Middletown NY, even though we live in a Baltimore MD suburb. We were about to buy a Honda locally when we saw the CC on their website, changed our mind and choose to buy at Compass because of the professional Sales and Service Department at that dealership.Their employees are highly knowledgeable and well trained. They swaped in the wrong car drive a car from buffalo to middletown after I turned my Honda lease in they picked me up to bring me to vw when I arrive I go out side to look at my new car and it was wrong color!!!! They said nothing they stared at me like a deer in headlights said will try to get the right color by Tuesday (which is 5 days from now) no loaner no nothing good bye now I'm left with no sort of transportation because they got wrong color!!!! Stay away

From start to finish, Alonzo made our buying experience fun, comfortable and reassuring. He is knowledgeable and what he didn't know he found out for us, didn't bluff his way through. (We bought a hybrid and this was a relatively new car for the dealership). Day 1 we were not sure we would be buying a VW, but started our search there, Alonzo sat in the car with us for 30-45 minutes and reviewed all the features. The car was comparable to the others on our list. We went to look at the other 2 cars on our list, test drove them and were impressed with them. We hadn't test driven the VW so to be fair we went back, meanwhile Alonzo and the sales manager stayed in touch via email without being pushy. We test drove the VW and although the car's performance sold us on the VW, the professionalism, friendliness and attention we received from all of the staff at Compass (including getting us a great rate on the financing) was the tipping point. We are looking forward to a long relationship with Compass Motors. Go to Compass and ask for Alonzo (however anyone who helps you will probably give you the same experience).

Everyone I dealt with associated with Compass starting with Ton Stark, then Alonzo Taylor and then Ben Wagner were extremely responsive, helpful and dedicated to making the process smoothe, simple and convenient. Ben Wagner even delivered the car to me in Fairfield County before heading all the way back up to Newburgh where he lives. It was an excellent customer experience.

Very nice Showroom. Friendly sales people. My salesman, though new to this dealership, was able to answer questions about the cars. Was accommodating in getting vehicles out of the lot for me to test drive. He had a sense of humor, that is very important, and was not the typical pushy salesman. If that were the case, I would have gone elsewhere to purchase my car.

Purchased a 2008 Dodge Nitro in December as trade in and the vehicle turns out to be a flood vehicle traded in by someone and they do not inspect trade ins evidentally! They refuse to work with me on remedying this situation. Recevied a quote from an auto adjuster who stated vehicle is considered a total loss!

Compass never stops trying to bilk money out of you. I normally would NEVER bring my car to this dealership for service, but I needed to bring it in for a recall issue and I had a headlight out, so I figured they could replace the bulb while it was in for the recall. When I dropped it off the owner came outside with me to look at the car, so that he could try to sell me additional services. He tried to sell me a tire rotation, but I declined. He quoted me $35 to replace the bulb, however, before the service was complete, he called to tell me it might not just be the bulb, it could be another part also, and he recommended replacing both. So basically he suggested replacing the bulb and another part without even checking to see if there was anything wrong with the other part or if it only needed a bulb. He quoted $175 for the bulb alone. I had previously gotten a quote for $90 on that bulb elsewhere, so that's quite a mark up!!! I said not to touch the bulb. When I picked up the car there was a note on the receipt with a $463 estimate to REPLACE A BULB! This is obscene!!! The worst part of it is that they guy did it with a big smile on his face. They act like they are your friend while they pick your pocket. (I ended up buying a bulb for $100 and it took 5 mins for my father to install it.)On another occasion, my father had purchased 4 parts and returned 3 parts the next day. He was charged a 20% restocking fee (which came to $60). They walked to the shelf, took the parts off, then walked back to the shelf and returned the parts... and my father was charged $60 for this service. They should be ashamed, but they are not. Their objective seems to be to take you for all they can.Stay away from Compass and if you are forced to go there, do NOT let them sell you services/parts that you DO NOT NEED!

Service Advisor Adam Brady was very courteous when I brought the car in. I was handled in an efficent, courteous manner by Vanessa McNally and kept informed about the status of repairs to be performed. Vanessa had to deal with my insurance company and received the appropriate approvals before having the work commenced. I was explained that it would take a few days for parts to come in and was called immediately when the work was done.

Horrible experience. My father recently had a stroke and is mildly disabled. My mother needed a vehicle but did not know how to go about it. I got a good quote online for a 2012 Tiguan and met in person to finalize everything including trade-in. Only thing mom had to do was pick it up since they didn't have one on the lot.They brought in one with 995 miles on it. She had to ask 3 times why it had high miles and was only told 'maybe it's transport miles'. She didn't know she could refuse it so she took it home. I knew I should have met her to pick it up...I questioned the salesman and he said it was very hard to locate and had to come from a long distance away. (she didn't care what color so how hard could it have been to locate? Every other dealer that I checked had one in stock...)I googled the VIN and found out it came from NJ (maybe 100 miles away). Their ads were still posted online.Once I replied to the salesman with that info he stopped communicating with me. The sales manager blew me off with "We take pride in our honesty and do not play any games with our customers" yeah - sure...I knew their parts and service department was useless. I've never gotten the right part on the first attempt (I guess they don't know a cam from a crank) and it's hit or miss on service. "the computer says your speakers are working fine"...

My sons 06 Jetta GLI had a falling interior headliner where the fabric started pulling away from the inside roof. In looking to get it repaired I went back to the dealer who sold us the Certified Used Car, Compass Volkswagen, only expecting a referral to a repair shop and fully expecting to pay for the repair since the car was technically out of the new car warranty period.Their service department took what was considered to be an out of warranty repair and along with Volkswagen of America honored the warranty and replaced the headliner at no charge. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. But even if they had not covered the cost, the Compass staff took it upon themselves to pursue that option on my behalfand went out of their way to contact the right people at Volkswagen, ordered the replacement parts necessary, got me the service appointment that was convenientto me and followed up to make sure everything was okay.My experience left me with a lasting impression that a lot of companies today seem to take for granted. It felt personal and the entire Compass team seemed genuinely sincere in their effort to make sure I was taken care of. Others should see this approach as the standard.Thank you Compass

I bought my 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 at Compass and have been servicing it there ever since. I have to say that their customer service skills are spectacular except for one incident I had with them but I believe this was before the Wagners took over. Chris Hackett is my favorite employee there. He knows what customer service is about, same with Gordy, but he is one of the owners.UPDATE to the below comments: Gordy, one of the owners, gave me a call back and we worked out a deal on the vehicle in question and apologized for the mistake. I'm now the happy owner of a new Miata! Thanks Gordy...Unfortunately I couldn't give a 5 on Overall Experience and Price because of a recent incident I had there when I came in to see an advertised vehicle. The vehicle was advertised for $22,676 ,and underneath the price, the "Special" stated that Compass would match 'up to' $5,500 on that specific vehicle. I came in and test drove the car expecting to put down $5,500 and have Compass match but I was told that the $5,500 was aready factored in to the price. Being that the Ad said they would match "up to" $5,500 on the price listed this didn't make sense to me. I emailed Gordy and Greg about my disappointment in that and didn't get a response back. I figured Compass would at least come half way as when I was there they admitted that the Ad was presented wrong.I'm assuming this was an honest mistake, and they did change the Ad after I left, but the right thing for them to do would to at least offer half of the advertised mistake since I drove 30 minutes and took time out of my day with intentions of purchasing the vehicle. Picked up brand new Mazda 3 two days ago. They didn't do a very good job of detailing the vehicle and it wasn't ready when I got there. Once they brought it around I noticed there were spots all over the hood from the trees. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and not make a big deal about it. I noticed there was a scratch on the rear passenger door. They told me I could bring it back in a week and they'd take care of it. I should have walked away at that point. When I got home I noticed a chip on the hood that they tried touching up so they obviously new about it. The finance guy Ed was very rude when I told him I wasn't purchasing the extended warranty. I was just about ready to leave when I was told I had to resign the paperwork because they had the wrong VIN# on everything. The manager Joe gave me a bottle of wine before I left. Maybe he should concentrate on making sure the customer is getting what they pay for. They took all the fun out of getting a new car.

went in for an appointmnent and they charged me 100 dollars to tell me whats wrong with the car , but could not fix it. There diagnosis ended up being wrong and wouldnt give me a refund. Manager is an ass taboot. He was completely rude and ignorant on the phone

I had to buy a new car and really didn't know what I was looking for. I was a walk-in to Compass, and was given enough breathing room to look around. I wasn't made to feel pushed into a purchase and was so impressed with everyone's professionalism. I wound up buying a car that same day and I've been thrilled. My experience was so good that I emailed the dealership in regards to Mr. Hackett, and how please I was with his performance. He took care of me and went the extra mile. Because there are no Audi dealers in this area I took my Audi to Compass. They were great to deal with and fixed my car. Some Audi's are notorious for problems and mine had it's share. Thanks!

i have a beloved 7 yr old VW GTI. the problem required a dealer visit, something i was pretty unhappy about. to my surprise, from the moment they answered the phone, the folks at compass motors turned me around completely. they made renting a car during the repair work easy as pie and chris in service took an interest in my car and problem. they followed up competently, quickly and efficiently. everything was repaired on time and they even washed my car. nice touch. i'm coming back even though they are 25 miles from my house.

My first experience with Compass Motors began about 2 years ago with the inception of the new owners. I was in the market for a mid-sized family sedan that I, as well as my wife, could haul our three children around in. Beginning my quest at Compass Motors was one of the wisest choices I have ever made. Upon arriving at the dealership I was immediately greeted by a friendly salesman (can't remember his name) and given the grand tour.
