Horrible from start to finish. The only thing they did was sell the vehicle. Tags were not handled properly, insurance was not handles properly, no one ever answers the phone, etc. Take your business elsewhere.

I went in for a simple sensor replacement, and by the time I left, had to walk out with a new (used) car, after being told that the mechanic really didn't want to release the car after having completed several diagnostics that would have resulted in me having to pay $2200 for repairs if I had taken my car home that day. Scotty, my salesman was not very attentive to my requests, and even when I spoke with yhe floor manager, he dismissed me and acted like I was a waste of selling time. I understand that the main job of a salesman is to sell, but at least pretend like you care if I'm fishing out $15,000 to your dealership. Won't go back to these people. They're an insult to your intelligence, customer service, and lacking in even decent salesman tactics.

Had bought 2016 Limited Tacoma at this dealership, was in for 6 month service after 2017's were on lot, had thought about trading for leftover 2016 Tundra, 6k difference in window stickers, sales manager wanted my truck plus 20k! Very poor sales tactics, in end sales manager made offer he would not honor. Than, service department signed off on work not performed, can not trust. Salesman called me 2 weeks after being at dealership, asked if I was still interested in a Tundra, said I was but they needed a better deal, he hung up! Stay away!

The service department is alright until you try to use one of the coupons that Toyota of Elizabeth City sends out. I receive on average at least three per month for a Camry Hybrid and a Tundra. They make it difficult to use the very coupons that they have sent out! I am done dealing with all the nickel and dime games. So glad I purchased a Honda HR-V for my daughter last month. Toyota needs to wake up and understand that they are turning away customers with their unsavory practices! By the way, I am also glad I purchased my Honda Pilot three years ago! Honda is now going to service ALL my vehicles!

I'm so pissed I apples for credit online I get from Cara saying we went over everything and we can put you into something. So I ask are you sure because I have to drove 2 hours she said yes we can just bring verification of everything so I did..I get there I basically do a whole credit application over so I wanted 2 hours and Charles come back and said I wasn't approved I tried to get you approved but couldn't.. I was so freaky piss about the drive and the false advertisement they giving people ...I'm not done with this I'm going overboard until I get answers

I am completely satisfied with my buying experience with Charles. He did everything he could to make sure I was not only happy with the Tacoma but that it was exactly what I wanted. He did a very good job explaining the truck and the warranty. Never did I feel pressured to buy. In fact it was quite the opposite. He was very professional with me, especially since I was crunched for time. Chris Vandalo and Charles worked with my schedule to be there first thing in the morning so we could complete the sale. Victoria Terry in the finance department is a wounderful person to work with. She explianed all the finance details making the whole processes go smoothly and quickly. Fil Catania runs a straight forward no nonsense car dealership, it was a very pleasurable experience. I will recommend to anyone we know wanting to buy a car and I will definitely buy from Toyota of EC again when looking to make another purchase.

Taylor Inge is awesome and I was glad he was my sales rep It was wonderful and even though I am nervous about the other car, my sales rep keep my calm and explained what I have to do and kept me at ease. I'm a toyota girl and a toyota is the best in the world Taylor was awesome, he cared about my feelings, he kept me at ease and seen I was nervous about possibly having 2 car payments but he talked me out of being nervous and explained to me about voluntarily handling the other car back over to the finance company and what the steps where. He was really into making me happy

I contacted Toyota of Elizabeth City after hearing an advertisement stating they could put you into another car with a lower payment. I looked at their website and found a couple that were of interest to me. I sent an inquiry and Cara contacted me back where I proceeded to explain my situation and what I was hoping to accomplish. I was told that it should not be a problem and she emailed me their credit application which I completed and submitted. Cara called back to say she had received it and we could absolutely work the deal. I made an appointment with her to meet on Saturday morning, drove 1.5 hours to see her where I was passed off to a salesman named Joe who informed me that the credit application was actually NOT submitted as they needed a physical signature. This was a little irritating but I signed the app and went over everything a second time. Joe came back and said they could work a deal with 500 down but it would need to be on a specific vehicle which was not one of the ones I asked about initially. I looked at it and decided that it would fit my needs so I took it for a test drive while Joe and the "business manager" worked out paperwork for me to sign and complete if I liked it. I did like the vehicle which would have been my 3rd choice and was waiting for the contract etc. Joe came back and suddenly the same bank allegedly wanted more money down (a 75% increase mind you) or no go. Either Joe lied to me prior to the test drive or the owner:business manager did. Needless to say, I did not take this deal and a little later I contacted Cara who informed me she knew nothing about my deal but would have Joe call me to explain the bizarre increase. Still waiting. This is the classic hair and switch that give car dealerships the reputation they deserve.

I was initially referred to Toyota of EC by the USAA car buying service which generated a TrueCar certificate for the vehicle that I wanted and I was contacted by the dealership through their Internet Consultant.I drove from Norfolk, VA to EC which is about an hour or so drive. Once I arrived I went on a test drive while my vehicle was being appraised. When I got back, I was in a bit of a rush to pick up a friend from the airport, which they were totally fine with they got me some numbers on the vehicle and I had to correct them right away. The advertised internet price was 31K, they were trying to sell me the Tacoma at 34K and some change.(It is important to note that I assumed that they had word on my TrueCar certificate since the internet consultant set up my appointment ahead of time and this is how I was initially referred to the dealership.). This was apparently not so. Once the salesperson, Chuck Hall, verified that the website had an internet sales price of 31K listed, his tune changed a bit. He and the sales manager insisted that I go with their financing - I gather that this is because they had already quoted me an appraisal on my vehicle based on their selling price of 34K (A last ditch effort to make a few thousand off of me by getting the finance reserve % -- since they were not making the $$ off me that they thought they would). I left that Friday and thought about all this. I contacted Chuck the next day to discuss the vehicle and he started talking about the internet price not being correct due to fine print on the bottom of the webpage which included a military discount and a college grad discount, both of which were taken off the Internet Sales Price erroneously. Basically, the internet price was a farce to lead people into the dealership. Once I brought up my TrueCar certificate in a conversation on a later date, he pretty much did his best to ignore my conversations - via email and text after that. I tried contacting management through email, never to receive any responses to my emails. My opinion: this is a very rude dealership that uses questionable tactics to lead people on. Also, I am surprised that they are affiliated with TrueCar.com or USAA since they don't want to honor their certificates. I hope USAA removes them from their Car Buying Service -- it is a shame that military personnel (or any one for that matter) have to deal with a shady dealership such as this one!

Had to have 2014 highlander seatbelt and airbag sensors recalibrate from a rear end collision. They were excellent. Got car back and thought it wasn't fixed and service manager Chuck hooked up the computer to the car himself to diagnose. Turned out my mistake didn't have the park assist turned on.

My wife bought a 2009 Hyundai Accent with 76,000 miles on it for my son who's a freshmen in college..I met her and the salesman in town to test ride. Supposedly they replaced front brakes, tires, battery and drive belt, and threw in the 75,000 service. The car rode fine and the only thing I noticed was a ticking sound from the rear when I applied the brakes right before stopping. I shutoff the car and mentioned that to the salesman. We looked in the trunk and because the jack was loose in the spare tire area he attributed that to the sound I heard. But said they would check it out. I left at that point and noticed in my rear view mirror as I went down the street that they were still parked. I figured they were BSing or something. My wife told me later the car wouldn't start after I shut it off. They had to tow back to dealership and replaced the starter. The next day we get the car and I noticed a screeching sound when starting the vehicle. I had a friend of mine look at it and he said the steering and starter belt needed tightened. He also noticed the clicking sound in the rear when I slowly came to a stop. He said no problem rear brakes need adjusted. Wife took it back and they replaced the rear brake shoes and adjusted. Works fine now. However they said they just replaced the belts and they were fine. I took it for a ride and car made a screeching sound upon starting. Then driving down the rode it would screech on every turn made and upon taking off at a red light or stop sign. This time I took it there and showed the service manager the video I took of it screeching and he said the belts need replaced. No problem. The service technician took me for a ride afterwards and finally it was fixed. He stated he had to tighten the alternator and power steering belts. Ya think!!!! Took 3 trips to service to get it right.

On Sept. 12th I purchased a 2014 Highlander from this dealership through the USAA Car Buying service. Everything started out fine! We agreed on a price and the finance manager was able to arrange financing that was actually a bit better than my pre-approved rate thru USAA. During the pre-delivery inspection I noted that a piece of interior trim was broken. The dealership agreed to repair it and deliver it to my home in Virginia. When the Highlander was delivered the courtesy driver and I noted that one of the electronic smart keys was missing. Upon contacting the dealership my sales consultant indicated that he couldn't locate a second key. He asked me to give him "10 minutes" and he would call me back. That was three weeks ago. I have called, emailed and texted my sales consultant, tried to reach a manager by phone and have written to the general manager. No one at the dealership has had the courtesy to follow up in any manner. The dealership uses the slogan "Customer for Life." Perhaps they should change the slogan to "Customer for Life or Until you drive off the lot, whichever comes first!"

At the time I purchased my Tacoma I was living 6,000 miles away. I relied on the online pictures and the local salesman (Austin) to help make my decision to buy at Toyota of Elizabeth City. I was looking at 14 Tacoma's online and Toyota of Elizabeth City stood out as the place to buy. When I arrived in town 2 weeks after making the deal online the vehicle was waiting at the front door, clean and ready to go, at the appointed time. Great people to deal with and P.S. I have never said that about a car dealer.

UPDATE: BBB Ad Review issued. Dealer did not respond to two requests. BBB is currently updating the info on this business. Also, several online reviews, which are clearly questionable/ conflicts of interest, , have been posted on several customer review sites to help boost ratings. Many of the reviews have been flagged, reported and removed, but there are few still out there...be cautious. My son went in to buy a new vehicle. They were extremely friendly. They had this nice, slick, glossy ad promising a free iPad, TV or gift card with the purchase of every new or used vehicle. As the deal went on, my son asked about the promo. They would not honor it because he was given what they considered to be such a good deal. He would need to pay full price. No where in the ad did it mention this requirement. Oh, then he would need to pay an addendum. Again, no where on the ad. Anyway, he was tired of arguing and would have to return to pick up his vehicle anyway, so he decided to broach the subject when he came back in. The next day, I called and asked about the promo. I was told everyone purchasing a vehicle gets the gift advertised. That was until I told them who I was. Then their story changed, The sales manager could not adequately explain the promo rules so he became angry and flustered and hung up on me. Third attempt to address the promo subject was when my son went to pick up his truck. He asked about the promo rules and was directed to the finance person. The finance person gave the full price addendum explantation, but changed his story to "you have to have a scratch off number" on the ad. Nope. Not true. That, in the rules, applied to a sweepstakes that anyone could enter, according to their ad. But they continued to argue, making up rules each day and with each person. Fourth attempt to address the issue, my father made contact with the dealership. They proceeded to tell my father that my son voluntarily opted out of the promo. Wow. A lie. The extremes they went to to close a deal, to deceive, to cheat....just wow. Now, We are worried about having to deal with this dealership for warranty and service work. Uuuggghhh. We have reported them and their ad to Toyota, to the BBB and will be filing a complaint with the NC Attorney General for deceptive advertising practices. So, if you decide to deal with these shady people, just be cautious. You may not get what you were promised or offered. You will definitely not get straight answers. Be wise, be wary. Obviously we do not recommend this business.

I stopped in due to a check engine light, they said someone would be with me soon, 4 hours later they pulled my can in the shop charged me a 85.00 checkout said it was an issue with the fuel system 1600.00 later I'm out the door only to find myself stranded on the side of the road, had vehicle towed back to the dealer ship, contacted service manager the next morning was informed of another checkout fee she was very rude, was told vehicle needed more work about 900.00 dollars. Frustrated I had vehicle towed to another dealership, found vehicle had a faulty computer which was still under warranty, spoke with owner and was told he could do nothing due to having the car towed to another Toyota dealer. Service people are horrable and completely misdiagnosed my vehicle. Do not go there they are unprofessional .

After filling out a credit application at Cars.Com I was contacted by Toyota of Elizabeth City regarding a car I was interested in. When I got there, they did not have the particular car I was inquiring about, (surprise, surprise) but did try to sell my son a truck that was 3 times in price what the original truck was. At the end, they decided I didn't make enough money to buy their wonderful, expensive truck without a cosigner and sent me on my way. They were very nice and their facility was clean and appealing. Unfortunately they don't have a deal for everyone.

This was the best Toyota dealership I had dealings with while looking, and finally buying, our new 2015 4Runner. The dealership was honest and upfront with every aspect of the buying experience. I had gone to 5 different dealerships and in negotiations with 3 in order to find the best price and service. Austin had us the best up front price and had my car waiting on the day we agreed. Tom, the owner, was a man of his word and took care of some concerns we had. He made me a promise and kept it, even though it hurt his profit margin. They are the most honest dealership I have ever bought a car from, and I have purchased no less than 6 new cars in the past 10 years. The finance department was a breeze! I will be back.

We purchased a new highlander and traded in our 2009 highlander. They advertised That they would give $3,000 above book value. They would give me the $3,000 but wanted to take $2000 off the blue book value and they add an addendum sticker to the vehicle for $1,200. That's a bait and switch. The addendum sticker is a scam. They also forgot to take off the $500 deposit we gave them from the bill of sale. This was the fourth vehicle we purchased from them and the first time we had any problems

Had a 8am appt this morning for a oil change and state inspection. It took 1 hour and 50 minutes to do both things. The oil change takes about 45min to 1hr. Not once did anyone come and tell me what is going on. (I told them I would be waiting.) When I asked what was going on at the 1hr and 30 min mark. The told me my car was on the inspection machine. That they were sorry. And that they couldn't do oil change and inspection at the same time. Makes no difference to me on how it gets done. As long its done. To me if a cutomer has an appt they come first. Walk in appt's go to the end of the line. I've been a customer of Toyota of Elizabeth City for 2 and a half years now. My husband I bought 2 vehicle's from. I'm not happy about how I was treated today. I showed as I was walking out of the building. Someone asked if they could help me as I was walking to my car saying loudly that he was the owner. The supposed owner never came over to my car when I was sitting there getting my stuff together to leave. AGAIN NOT HAPPY ABOUT HOW I WAS TREATED TODAY.

Went to this dealer for a simple oil change and they could not even get this done correctly. After they changed the oil and gave me my keys. I pulled over to a parking spot at my 21 year old sons request. My son got under the car to check the oil filter and plug. My son found that the dealers worker did not tighten the oil filter and it was moving from side to side about to fall off. If it had not been for my son checking, my cars engine would have been ruined. He tighten the filter with his hand and I pulled back into service. They tighten the filter and did not even care. Do not go to this place. If I had not had my son with me my new car would be junk right now. Toyota dealer shame on you!!! Do a job right or don't do it at all!! Shame SHAME on your dealership!

I went to this dealer to see if I could afford a new Camry. The salesperson Larry was great! He was not pushy, didn't try to sell me something I didn't want. The owner worked with me on price so I could have the car I wanted. It was such a good experience that I took my son there two weeks later and he bought a new Tundra. I have bought many new cars over the years Cadillacs, GMCs, and Toyotas and this was the best experience in car buying I've ever had! I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a new Toyota.

Wow where do I start on how bad this experience has been? First off as I left the dealearship in a vehicle I purcased which was a used 05'Tacoma that they didn't even clean or wash before handing me the keys.I had to pull in the gas station next door to get gas. Upon my purchase I specifically asked does that price come with a warranty? Yes it comes with a two year extended warranty. I drove the truck straight to SC and upon arriving in Mrytle Beach the engine light comes on. Not the end of the world because it just needed an oil change.Really I had to get an oil change for a truck I just purchased 5 hours previously and 350 miles ago. I got the oil change and my dealer JOJO called me upon day 24 of the 30 day drive out tag and said.I need you to do me a favor and go have the inspection done before I can give you your tags. Ok first this is ilegal for a dealer to sell you a vehicle without having an inspection done. I took it to an inspection they refused to do it on general purpose. I called Toyota of Elizabeth city told the to drive down to the Outer Banks and pick up the truck and have the inspection done. They did. They did not send a sales rep of any sort They sent a guy and his wife to pick up the truck and bring it back. They did I got my tags done deal. Ok here is where they get really shady. I had State Farm buy my loan from Wells Fargo that Toyota of Elizabeth City have do the loan and my State Farm rep said they charged you GAP insurance for 700.00 he said we have that included in our price and loan. No extra charge. We called the dealer had them cancel my GAP insurance. They owed me a check for 700.00 the girl said about 2 weeks to process should have check by end of November. By Dec7th still no check called her back asked what's up with you guys sending me my check. After3 days of phone calls she had misplaced my info and put my info on someone elses name. Finally got the GAP check about the last week of December. May18th 2012 just 8 months later heard a funny sound from the drive train. I took it to a Toyota Dealership in Georgia whereI now live. They said upon inspecting the vehicle and said you need a new rear end. They said your warranty would easily cover this however we ran the vin number and Toyota of Elizabeth City warranty they filed is not a 2 year extended warranty it shows they sold you a preexisting warranty 7 years or 100,000 for 1400.00. So they sold me a PRE Existing warranty which expired 4 months after you bought this truck from them. They sold me and filed the warranty under a 7 year day from production or 100,000 mile factory warranty. The Truck was a 05' Tacoma which means the warranty they sold me and and filed was only good for 4 more months seeing that Jan 2012 would be 7 years even tho the truck only had 50,000 miles on it. THEY SOLD ME A 4 MONTH WARRANTY FOR 1400.00 DOLLARS. My dealer in GA called Toyota and Toyota had the Dealer in GA GoodWilled the Rear end to me. Toyota heard my case and Goodwilled the new Rear End to me as a good will jesture. I'm in the process of contacting my lawyer to get the 1400.00 back from them. Dont ever go to Toyota of Elizabeth City even with their 3000.00 dollar trade in. This place is a joke.Bite the bullet drive to VA or Raleigh don't ever go to TOYOTA OF ELIZABETH CITY EVER TO DO BUSINESS.....

This was an extremely horrible experience!! If I could turn back time I would have NEVER stepped foot on their lot. Don't believe anything they say over the phone, it is only a bait and switch tatic. I have never experienced such underhanded car dealer practices. After waiting 2 months I filed with the BBB to receive warranty papers for my 2012 Toyota. There were other issues as well (when making the purchase they refused to give me a reciept showing that I had paid in full - they installed the wrong window tint color). It has been an awful 2 1/2 months. Maybe my review will prevent someone from having to deal with such an unprofessional dealership.

This was a "first" experience on her own in the adult world in bringing her Corolla in for service. She set up the appointment by herself. Brought it in and, BANG, they hit her with a, never before discussed, $85.00 diagnostic fee. When making the appointment, she was assured that they knew exactly what was wrong with her seat belt retractor and told her it would only take a short time to fix. So typical of the standard underhanded car dealership practices I've experienced over the years. Lure them in with smooth talk, then hit 'em hard in the wallet. For me, this is the third time they have pulled this trick, twice before with my wife. I try to buy local, but shady service practices like this keep driving me to buy elsewhere and getting my service done by reputable independent mechanics. As in baseball, three strikes and you're out. Game over!

We have purchased three (3) Toyota vehicles at this fine dealership since 2004 when we moved to EC from Woodbridge, VA. To date, the new Camry is the best car we have ever owned. I drive a 2007 Tacoma (Basic) and is about 31k miles into a great service life. The difference between our experiences and some of the comments see on the page is that being $$$ savvy is good; stupid and expecting a gift from the dealer is not...Tom Simms and his sales force go out of there way to please customers as does service. Beverly Pritchett is a voice of reason in a tough, service environment. Again, thanks to all for a great experience; they are few and far between these days...

My wife and I went to this dealership on a work trip/family vacation. Everything seemed great! Best offer on a trade-in, friendly staff, and a decent deal on a new 4Runner for my wife. We left with a fairly good feeling about everything. About a week later my wife started receiving phone calls stating that they needed more references for her credit application. They stated because she was military and there was a possibility of her moving around, she needed more references. Okay, not a big deal but still made me wonder why a week later they were asking for this. Now two weeks after the deal was done they called her asking her where her down payment was. They stated that she agreed to pay a $3200 down payment. And that if she didn't pay it by the next day that legal action would be taken. I called the sales manager to ask why my wife and I felt like this was the first time we had heard about it. Like my wife had told me, he began to twist the truth about what was said during the sales process. The sales manager told me that I said things that would never come out of my mouth. The sales documents do say we paid 3200 cash! Why two weeks later are they just asking for that down payment? And threatening legal action, to not pay off the loan on our trade in like agreed, and threatening my wife's career? (by the way, my wife is military and I am a disabled vet) The sales manager threatened my wife with words like "felony" over this. He did the same with me. He also stated to us both that they will not pay off the trade-in. Telling us both that we would have two car payments to make or our trade-in loan would go to collections. I told the sales manager we would just return the 4Runner and grab our old vehicle. Of course he said we can't do that. Right now we are both extremely disgusted with the whole experience and taking the steps to protect ourselves. Seems like there were a lot of smoke and mirrors to get us out if the lot in one of their vehicles and I really just wish we could be rid of the thing and purchase one anywhere else! If you are going to shop here, watch yourself and make sure you know what you are signing to. Hate to see anyone else receive such treatment.

Went there purchased vehicle. Do not go there, their prices are very expensive, like 2-3k extra, that the actual price of the vehicle, you can go to the different dealer, like in VA, and it will be a lot cheaper. They just use their location and that they are the only dealership around. Plus they make you sign papers with extended term, without letting you anything know. I ended up with 72 month instead of promised 60!!!!Their tire policies and etc, its just an extra way of getting you.You will get your tires only if you service your car there, for the price of "golden oil". BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ARE SIGHING!!! DO NOT BUY ANY EXTENDED WARRANTIES FROM THEM. B/C YOU WILL HAVE HARD TIME CANCELLING IT LATER. BELIEVE ME, I CHASED THE REP FOR 3 weeks, unsuccessfully!!!!

I went to this dealership because I bought from them before, and had a good experience. I dealt with John Midget (who no onger works there) and he was fantastic. So when I went back to buy a 09 Yaris, I was shocked at the terrible experience I had.I dealt with the sales man Robert, a couple of times face to face, he seemed very friendly and easy to deal with. Then I began dealing of the phone on an automatic transmission vehicle, with the power option. We where dealing on the phone one day when he quoted me a price of 14273 OTD, I made sure we were talking about the automatic, what color it was to be as well as the other options and then I told him we were eating now, and I would have to get back to him. I talked to my wife and we decided we would buy the vehicle for 14000 OTD. After calling him back in a day or so, we talked back and forth and then called me back wanting me to go to the dealership, bc the whole saler was down there and they wanted me to get a better deal on the trade in (about 5pm), I said how long would that take and he told me that the guy would be there in 15-20minutes. I was hesitant and asked them if they would go 14000otd, and repeated all the options and the car so there would be no confusion. He told me yes, so I went to the dealership. I handed him the key so the whole saler could look at the vehicle, no realizing he wasn't even there. When I asked about his where abouts they stated "He couldn't make it". Immediately, a red flag went off and I became uneasy. It was then when the dishonesty REALLY came out. They began dealing on the car price, and then pushed a paper in front of me showing the price of the vehicle being $753 more than what we discussed on the phone. Then they told me, "Well, robert is kind of new and he messed up" I told them I find it really hard to believe considering I had him repeat everything, and I repeated everything to make sure we were on the same page. After being tag teamed from various salesmen, and the manager I left, when I found out one of the rebates they were offering me had to be financed through them, and the would not give me the vehicle for the quoted price. This is clearly a bait and switch and it makes me sick to think they could pull that tactic on me. I will never deal with them again, and will file a report with the BBB. I have decided to buy either a honda or volkswagen instead. Way to go Toyota of Elizabeth City!!
