Seller description

This 1983 Porsche was acquired from the second owner who purchased the car in May of 1995 with 30,689 miles according to the Auto Check report. The Auto Check score is a high 78 and has no accident reports noted. He was an engineer at Boeing here is St. Luis and performed most all maintenance himself. We have no receipts or documents for the car. The vehicle always garaged over the past 29 years of Stewardship. Made in July 1983 at Porsche's Stuttgart, West Germany factory, this example is dressed in black (code L700) with an added silver 911 stripe near the bottom. The paint and trim are in excellent order with mostly original paint (see meter readings). The bodywork is straight and solid and shows minor imperfections. The bumpers with black bellows are in excellent shape. The window frames and exterior door handles are anodized black. The headlamp rings that surround the Hella headlights are bodycolor while the taillight panel bears a black Porsche logo. Up front are fog lights. The rear lid featured a distinctive added rear wing with a wide black hard-rubber border, commonly referred to as a 'whale tail.' This large rear wing was installed to help vent more air to the engine and to create more downforce at the rear of the vehicle. This 911 rolls on Hankook Ventus R-S2 radials, 205/55ZR16 in front and 225/50ZR16 in back. Each tire is mounted to a black Fuchs alloy wheel. The wheels have been refinished and look fantastic and the tires are in very good order. Under that whale tail is a 3.0L air-cooled flat six-cylinder engine. Backing the motor is a five-speed manual transmission. Backing the motor is a Getrag G60 five-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, compressor removed, cruise control, rear window defroster, headlamp washers, power windows and power sideview mirrors. Inside, there is a black leather interior. The front buckets and rear demi-buckets are in very good order overall. The matching carpet and headliner are in similar order. A three-spoke steering wheel faces the driver while the dashboard with its VDO gauges and the interior door panels are in very good condition. A floor-mounted shifter and a Blaupunkt Monterey AM/FM stereo with cassette deck round out the inside. Starting in 1978, the new 3.0 L 911 SC was now the second generation basic 911 model. It was in effect a Carrera 3 (known as a 911S in the United States). The "SC" designation was reintroduced by Porsche for the first time since the 356 SC (as distinguished from the race-engined 356 Carrera). No Carrera versions were produced and the 930 Turbo remained at the top of the range. Porsche's engineers felt that the weight of the extra luxury, safety and emissions equipment on these cars was blunting performance compared to the earlier, lighter cars with the same power output, so in non-US cars, power was increased for 1980. However, cars sold in the US market retained their lower-compression engines throughout. This enabled them to be run on lower-octane fuel. In model year 1980, Porsche offered a Weissach special edition version of the 911 SC, named after the town in Germany where Porsche has their research center. Designated M439, it was offered in two colors with the turbo whale tail and front chin spoiler, body color-matched Fuchs alloy wheels and other convenience features as standard.
