Seller description

2001 Ford Mustang GT ConvertibleThirty six years into production and fourth generation, the Mustang was still a popular car. In 2001, more than 176,000 were produced and in 2002, it would be the lone survivor of American muscle/pony cars as the Camaro and Firebird were discontinued. The fourth gen Mustangs would last until 2004 when the fifth generation would introduce a redesign that would increase the car's size among other changes. For consignment, a 2001 Ford Mustang GT convertible with a title verified 69,415 actual miles. At the time of writing, summer is just getting underway, and people are thinking about top down driving, especially when they see others doing it! Here's a ragtop with a little muscle under the hood, aftermarket wheels, and two extra seats. ExteriorLaser Red Metallic coats our family sports car which has a contrasting tan canvas soft top and matching rocker stripes. An aggressive albeit non functional scoop tops the hood which is contoured as if to funnel air though the opening. Flush headlights wrap around the corners with marking lights on the side, and fog lights are tucked into the chin spoiler. There are non-functional intake scoops on the side as well and these enhancements have been used on Mustangs since their earliest days. Around back a wide black band runs end to end between the black lined taillights and over a black accent on the bumper cover in a handsome and sporty presentation. It's back here where dual exhaust exits with angle cut tips tucked into the sculpted bumper cover with the debossed Mustang in bold letters. 17-inch chrome FR500 wheels wearing 245/45ZR17 tires not only look great but give the car a bit of a modern boost. Imperfections are limited to some damaged paint on the top of the front fender, a touched up gouge on the bumper cover, and some discoloration on the canvas top. InteriorFord's interior materials have been panned in the car world, but what we've found is that they hold up well, especially when taken care of. Such is the case with the Parchment interior, beginning on the door panels which in no way look 23 years old. They've aged stylistically maybe, but not in wear. The cloth bucket seats are in good shape with typical two tone configuration and tuck and roll insert. In back, the 2+2 seats provide more limited space but are in great condition. The brown leather wrapped steering wheel, basic by today's standards, looks good and picks up the two tone palette of the dash and console. Simple and efficient, the gauge cluster is a no nonsense collection of pertinent read outs, and the center stack could not be more unassuming. The original radio has been replaced with an AM/FM/CD unit with AUX capability. The automatic shifter is housed in an oval base and molded plastic console, while the tan carpet and footwell panels look to be in good, clean condition. DrivetrainBefore the advent and common use of large plastic engine covers, we got this, a clear view of the accessories and systems that run an engine, in this case the venerable 4.6 liter SOHC V8 rated at 280 horsepower, fuel injected and driven by a 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission. Like every other Mustang, power is sent to the rear wheels where an 8.8 Ford rear houses 3.27 gears with TracLoc. The engine bay is clean and a tick better than mere driver quality. Power disc brakes are found front and rear. UndercarriageWhile there's certainly a decent amount of typical surface rust, the underside is very clean and dry and for a car with 69,000 miles, above average, indicating some careful stewardship of this car along the way. The dual exhaust flows from the engine and meets original equipment mufflers before snaking over the axle and out through the attractive tips. Coil springs are equipped up front while a 4 link with coil spring is out back. Drive-AbilityThe GT has never been a stranger to sweet exhaust tones and even in 2001, sounded pretty good. Yes, ergonomics continue to evolve, but this is a very comfortable cabin and a simple cockpit from which to operate. Meanwhile, the car runs well, stops on a dime, and handles nicely. All electronics work as they should with the exception of the passenger power mirror. This clean ride would make a great first car for the kids or a great commuter for just about anyone looking for a four seat convertible with a little bit of spunk under the hood. Not every fourth gen Mustang is going to be considered a classic, but you can't go wrong with a convertible GT from the era for some show and go!
