At EAG, we are always on the hunt for the best BMWs out there, but we also love getting back cars we have had through our hands in the past. Although unearthing unique, low-mile examples of BMWs is fun, there is a lot of value for us in knowing a car intimately and being confident in its condition every time it comes through our doors. Some vehicles we have been fortunate to rejuvenate and sell two or three times, but occasionally, there is a car that has been through our process even more times than that- and to us, those are very special vehicles. This 2003 BMW E39 M5 is currently on its fifth round through EAG and first came to us in 2013 when it showed just 30,300 miles. In the intervening 11 years, the car has racked up less than 8,000 additional miles, currently showing 38,143 at the time of cataloging, and is in exceptional shape throughout. Finished in Titanium Silver, this car benefits from a few high quality modifications that were carried out in 2020 and do wonders towards enhancing the driving experience. The M-Shadow Chrome wheels are in exceptional condition- anybody looking for an E39 M5 knows that this finish is very difficult to replicate - but these are outstanding thanks to a new OEM set being fitted when the car was under our care in 2013. One great thing about a repeat EAG visitor is that we can be confident that when it left our hands, it was in tip-top shape, and we know that our clients like to keep their cars that way. The interior of this M5 is pretty special too, as it is fitted with a Sport interior in two-tone Silverstone and Black leather. Most often on these Titanium Silver cars, you see plain black leather inside, but there were a few different two-tone options offered - with Silverstone being the best pairing with the exterior. As you would expect, the overall condition is excellent and when we saw this car in 2020, a few little alterations were made to make it even nicer. A custom steering wheel with perforated leather on both the left and right side was added, offering an improved grip, and is complimented by the classic blue and red M color stitching on the inner ring. In the center console, a ZHP shift knob was fitted - this weighted shift knob was first placed in the E46 330i ZHP and, with some additional weight, improves the shift feel dramatically and should be a standard upgrade on any classic BMW. Additionally, Euro-spec piano black trim has been fitted around the interior, in place of the stainless steel that would have been fitted to a regular US Sport-trim car. Powering this M5 is the famed S62 V8- a true masterpiece of engineering. With 4.9 liters of displacement, this engine produces 394 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque and offers instant throttle response thanks to 8 individual throttle bodies and double VANOS variable valve timing. In all E39 M5s, this power is sent through a 6-speed Getrag manual gearbox with a reinforced clutch to the rear wheels via a shortened 3.15:1 limited-slip rear differential. On this cars trip through our shop in 2020, we added a few performance upgrades to this example that add a bit of power and make for a properly enjoyable driving experience. A Dinan cold air intake was fitted, along with some Dinan performance software to take advantage of the freer breathing. Additionally, a BMW short throw shifter was fitted to the Getrag box which, especially when paired with the ZHP shift knob, makes the gearbox so much fun to use. At EAG, we think that the E39 M5 may be the ultimate sport sedan of all time. Although BMW has built some cars that are faster, more nimble and more luxurious inside, there was something about this car that made everything just gel perfectly.
