Finally, a new Ranger has debuted, and it looks like it will right many of the previous generation's wrongs. The 2024 Ford Ranger will slot between the smaller Maverick and larger F-150 in Ford's truck lineup. It's not a totally all-new truck, as it rides on an updated version of the previous platform and uses the same base powertrain as the Ranger on sale previously. However, the changes are significant enough to advance the Ranger into contention against the segment's best. The 10-speed automatic is well-tuned to keep the engine in its sweet spot. A comfortable ride quality, easy around-town driving manners, and a compelling value equation were factors that led the new Ranger to victory in a comparison test against the redesigned 2024 Toyota Tacoma. Macho styling and a much higher-tech interior make the 2024 Ranger more appealing. The new Ranger story is off to a strong startthe hybrid and EV models that are likely on the way should help it keep an edge as the midsize truck segment evolves for the future. Entry-level Ranger trims will come equipped with a 10.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and 8.0-inch digital gauge display, while higher-end models upgrade to a 12.0-inch touchscreen and 12.4-inch all-digital gauge display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, with additional features available in the future via over-the-air update. Devices can stay charged via USB-A and USB-C ports or an available wireless charging pad. Premium tech options include a 360-degree camera system and Bang & Olufsen speakers. The new Ranger's modified platform provides better approach and departure angles, as well as more ground clearance. The rear dampers are now mounted outside of the frame rails, which is intended to aid articulation as well as ride comfort. Off-road ability is clearly something Ford factored in the design briefwith the available Ranger FX4 package, dual recovery hooks are seen in the front bumper, and bigger all-terrain tires are equipped.
