I had been looking all over SoCal for a particular vehicle, color and set of features. I talked with dealers in Ventura, L.A., the Inland Empire, the OC (where I live) and S.D. More than one dealer said they had it, then they didn't. Most were simply $2000 above the best prevailing price and they wanted to sell one in red or silver (no thanks). San Diego Toyota found one, matched the best price and brought it to me. I've bought a number of cars from the biggest Toyota dealer in the region, but they couldn't match the price or come up with the car. Thanks San Diego Toyota! You're my new "go to" dealer.

I have purchased well over a dozen cars by now and have spent more than enough time in dealerships to be able to tell the difference between a professionally ran business and this place. The key dissapointments were in the lack of professionalism, lack of respect for my time, the highest level of confusion I have ever seen at a dealership and horrendous communication/customer service. During my time in the Marine Corps I took away many traits that have developed me into the initiative and integrity based individual I am today. I apply these same principles to any type of business that I conduct and it's unfortunate when a reputadable organization such as this does not. On the initial inquiry I was led to believe that there was no option to buy the vehicle I was considering due to confusion on the type of buyer the bank thought I was; low credit with low income looking to purchase any set of wheels. When in fact the circumstances were the opposite, this was a third vehicle that I was going to use to alleviate the mileage I was racking up on my other cars. In addition, I have excellent credit and more than enough income. Throughout these initial communications there were talks of lower out the door prices and a limit that I had on how much I wanted to put down.Once I arrived I test drove the vehicle and realized that It would more than suffice as a reliable daily driver so I continued with the full intent to drive it home that evening. This mentality was partially due to my sales reps wording, which came across that I already been approved to the basic terms we had agreed to over the phone earlier that day. This was not the case and to make matters worse 2 new sales reps had now joined the picture and neither were willing to negotiate the overall price. Needless to say, I left that evening without the car.The next day, I called to agree to the new terms that were offered the evening before and notified one of the new sales reps that I was going to stop by during my lunch break to sign and I would be picking the vehicle up later that day. This is where the most confusion began coming up. Apperantly I was not fully approved but was not made aware of this. In fact, when I showed up to sign I was introduced to the original sales rep that I had negotiated strictly over the phone with and he had ALL the necessary documents for me to sign and purchase the car. Unfortunately, he was not the original sales rep and he had the keys and documents for a completely different car and possibly different person. He seemed more confused than I was at that point. He had me wait while he went to grab the correct documents and NEVER returned. I sat there for what felt like 20+ minutes, while on my lunch break, with no one coming to check up on me or at least communicating any bit of information about what was going on.Unfortunately, I had to leave to get back to work. I notified the secretary since none of the now 5 reps that I had worked with were anywhere to be found. It took two hours for ME TO CALL THEM because they can't call someone back that they were just working with. After a quick talk and another phone call later I was finally told that there in fact were "too many people involved" and this created the confusion with their lenders. In addition, I was told that the bank was now not approving the loan due to the age of the vehicle, which was something that was cleared up and assured to me that it was not an issue the day before! The next day I recieved a call from the floor manager, which is perhaps the clearest example of the lack of professionalism seeing that the leadership can't even follow through. I told him about my epxerience and the unprofessional business that led to the confusion at this dealership. He said he was going to notify the general manager and follow up with me within, I believe he said 20 minutes. It's been a few days now and have yet to recieve a follow up.

Beware of the "bait and switch" warranty offered by Toyota and the same with the over-priced "platinum care" extended service warranty. I had a "check engine" warning light on a 2012 Prius still under the traditional warranty AND the platinum extended warranty. I took it in to have it checked. I was told there would be a $125. diagnostic fee. I mentioned both warranties and Kristen Seipel (service writer) rudely snapped back that the diagnostic fee was not covered by any warranty and it would be charged "no matter what." The only consolation was if there was a repair that was not covered under warranty (say what?), I could apply the fee toward the cost of the repair. Of course, with the Toyota warranty, and the zero-deductible of the $2,300 extended warranty, how could they possibly pull this scam off so that I would have to pay the diagnostic fee no matter what? Realizing I had been cheated at some point along the line, I had them check out the car, hoping I could argue about it later. After sitting there for 2.5 hours (yes, I had an appointment), I was told that the check engine light was "on" due to a loose gas cap. "That will be $125. How do you want to pay?" Having been a Toyota customer for many years and many Toyota cars, this pretty much soured me on Toyota, and especially Toyota of San Diego. I had thought diagnostic fees were to guard against people getting a diagnosis, then going elsewhere. I had no idea they could be used by Toyota as a scam to get around the zero deductible of the extended warranty, the initial warranty, and even a situation where nothing was really wrong with the car. Never again.

The OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT is not optional. Toyota San Diego says is part of the equipment and must be purchased even if we never use the cargo cross bars or the cargo cover. Unfortunately I purchased the car at Toyota San Diego. When I signed the paperwork I was very tired for waiting so long for the paperwork to be finalized that I signed without reading much and now I realize that I made a mistake trusting them, I did not get a good deal. They charged very high interest rate, they sold me the alarm stating that the insurance will be lower but is was not true. I will never buy a car again at Toyota San Diego.

At 27, I got my first new car- a 2016 Toyota corolla. My close friend was helping me out and I wasn't there for all of the negotiating. But I do know we worked with Oscar and Sam (and a few others I wish I knew the name of.) Unlike Toyota in Poway, the salesmen did not seem irritated after debating back and forth, at least not by the time I had gotten there. Everyone here was really nice and patient which, let's face it, they should be if you're about to make a $15,000+ purchase. But toward the end we were running numbers and trying to find a way to make things work with the interest rate and trade in value. They had already given us a great deal on the price of the car so by 9pm we were trying to decide if I could make it all work. In the end we went for it but even while we were unsure, they were very understanding and genuine and I never got the pushy salesman vibe at all. I also got a follow up call today which I appreciated. We did start with them on the phone, we knew what we wanted and the price I could afford. Not sure how it would be for somebody in a different situation. But I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for a good and courteous dealer.

I bought a car from Toyota San Diego couple of weeks ago and the left passenger side door had two dents and when we were doing the purchase our sales agent said that they will fix it. When we called to follow up, the sales person (Sergi) said to bring it on Friday as the tech who fix dents (third party) will be there all morning. My husband took the car and they took it and see if they can fix it. Well they came back saying that they won't be able to fix it because it will cost a lot for the dealership, However; they brought it back worse than when they took it. Now it has a big hole in the door where they tried to fix the dents, and now they are saying that they are not responsible to fix that whole. I will never go back to this dealership anymore. I also use this dealership to do my oil change in my Lexus. I will take my business elsewhere. Not cool at ALL!!!!

Asking 2,500+ over MSRP for a 4runner. Even other dealerships said this was a "shady" business practice.Take your business elsewhere, as PLENTY of dealers will sell at (and usually BELOW!) MSRP. I found the exact same car at another dealer nearby, and purchased it. No hassle, no xxxxxxx mark-up.

After we had closed the deal, Mr. Reyes continued to show exceptional customer service and two days after I had bought the vehicle, he called to follow up with me to make sure that I was happy and everything with the vehicle was working properly. After more than a week of stringing me along, the car that I was told (multiple times) I had first shot at had been sold to someone else without anyone telling me about it. I was still waiting to hear when the car was ready and instead they sold it to someone else. The most frustrating thing is that the sales person Tony I had been in contact fairly often with in regards to this car tried blaming me for his own screw up. I will NEVER get a car from here.

In March 2015, I entered into negotiations to purchase a 2013 Toyota Prius from this dealership. The salesman AND his manager were involved in an offer to me for an $895. anti-theft Keyless-Entry-System. BUT the keyless-Entry-System is a STANDARD feature ALREADY INCLUDED in ALL Toyota Prius'. SO, an attempt was made to DOUBLE CHARGE me !!!I was presented a paper invoice with ALL these charges (including the $895.) for me to agree to. This invoice finalized by the salesman's MANAGER. SO, the salesman AND his sales manager were CLEARLY BOTH involved in this attempted scam. LESSON-TO-LEARN from this experience: Deal ONLY with large, REPUTABLE Toyota dealerships like (evidently) Mossy, Toyota Carlsbad, and Toyota El Cajon.

Just drove away from the dealership this week with a brand new Toyota Tacoma. I spent months researching all of the facts about the Tacoma and spoke with several different dealers in both North and South San Diego County. Ira was by far the the most helpful and patient dealer I worked with. Even tho I was a few weeks from being ready to purchase my vehicle he was understanding and answered all of my questions quickly and truthfully without rushing me into a deal I was not ready for. After a few weeks I was finally ready to purchase my vehicle and couldn't be happier to work with such a professional sales team.

I went online to see what I could get for my 2003 Toyota Tacoma. Within 5 minutes Ed Burke called me back and we set up an appointment to bring in my truck. I explained to him that I was going to purchase a used Nissan Frontier from a private party and needed to sell my truck. Ed was very attentive and accommodating. He negotiated with his boss the best possible price for my truck and I was pleased with the final number. Not once did Ed try to sell me something on their lot. He was professional in every way--no pressure to make a deal. After two weeks, I realized that my decision on the Nissan Frontier was not a good fit for me and contacted Ed directly to see if he could show me a used Toyota SUV or truck on their lot. Ed sent me several pictures and info on available vehicles before I went in to see him. This extra effort on his part was above and beyond what I have been used to with other dealerships in the past and showed me that he was really interested in trying to find the right vehicle for me. I ended up buying a new 2015 Tacoma and love it! It's refreshing to have an honest salesperson--someone that you can trust. I have referred several people to Ed and hopefully they will have the same pleasant experience. Thank you Ed!

I visited this dealership in my search for a well used SUV. Edward Burke found a great Honda Pilot 2006 to me and he explained both the advantages and disadvantages of a car like that to me. Unfortunately a few days later it was gone even though Edward had reserved it and tried to hide it till I got back. I guess one colleague did not want that. :-(. Ed quickly reserved a Toyota Highlander that he might have sensed was something for me too. He had sensed right. He got me a good price and I found my new car. Spent many hours with him and never once complained about how picky I was or even mentioned that time was a problem. Go with him and you will walk out happy and have a great experience. Worst car buying experience! The manager (Muhammad) was rude, not friendly and lied straight to my face.I went in on a Saturday 12/6/2014 and was not excited about any offers at that time, so decided to try later.I get a call back on Monday 12/8/2014 from a new sales associate with a offer I was way more excited about, so I left work and headed straight down to to Toyota San Diego.First person I see is "The manager (Muhammad)". I told him why I was there and who I was there to see. He sits me down and say that that offer is not accurate and started to try to sell me something else. When the sales rep that called me comes out to show me the paper work he actually called me about, Muhammad is trying to hint to him that he called me about a totally different car. Finally I had to walk out. Please do not go here. If you do, please do not speak with Muhammad. I ended up buying a care from Toyota Carlsbad that same night 12/8/2014 and Frank was great.

We had a great salesperson, then another salesperson stepped in and any attempt to negotiate a deal went from bad to worse. We found it difficult to get a straight and consistent price on a vehicle.

Made an appointment at 7:30 AM to get an oil change and was told at the time of the appointment it would take about 1 hour, but when I arrived there at 7:25 AM I was told it would take 2 to 2:30 hours because of a long line of cars. The point of making an appointment is to get service then not 2 hours later. The service personnel didn't care so I am taking all my business trucks somewhere else from now on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the pleasure of leasing another vehilcle from this dealership its my third one. My salesman Michael was very knowledgeable and very courteous. I would defiantly recomend family and friends to purchase or lease a vehicle from this dealership. My experience was painless it was like clock work no heavy sales pressure like I've experienced from other dealerships, so that would explain why I come back. My deal was done in a reasonable amount of time, so that I was still able to enjoy the California coast since I travel in from Arizona. Thanks again for a great experience from sales to finance.Bobby Barboza

My daughter was called by her friend who was now a salesman at this dealership about coming down to look at a car. By days end, this company sold a young 19 year old a used car that would end up costing her 30K dollars. 360$ month car payments for 7 years with 5K dollars down. Her credit applications stated she made 800 and took home 550-600$ per month. Because "it doesn't matter" they added 2500 to the income stating it was "household" income and "everybody does that". Unfortunately, she signed away her chance to bring the car back.Later that day she calls to bring the car back. She is told to wait. The next day as the parent I go with her to ask them to take the car back. We offered to pay the restocking fees and any other costs to the dealer. Dallas the GSM, forcefully refuses. He says "we didn't' do anything wrong" She was "so happy". It wasn't that, the girl made an uninformed choice and needed financially to bring this car back. The only choice after hours of discussion was to buy another car. They only have 1 car under 10K to choose from. She is bullied into taking this car or the one that will cost her 30K( a used scion, which we all know was worth about 14K at best) When we signed back the Scion and started to purchase the other car we wanted to sign the contract under California Law to give her 2 days to decide if she wanted the car and was flatly refused to be allowed to sign that document to pay the cost. We were forced to refuse "or the deal is off and she can take the scion home". Oh, Did I tell you this dealership the year before planned to buy my SUV for 10K dollars, I made an appointment to bring it in 3 days later ( from a Friday to a Monday) and when I got there the man who gave me the deal was not there. They refused to give me the 10K and offered me 9K. It was not a good day then either.

Great customer service, great prices, and even better employees. To anyone looking for a great service rep, ask for John Levy. I've been taking my truck into Toyota San Diego ever since I moved here and John Levy has been great for everything I've needed for my truck. I would recommend a Toyota truck to anyone and would certainly tell them to not bring it anywhere else but Toyota San Diego.Keep up the good work Toyota SD.

Advertised vehicle with 78K miles on it, extra features package, excellent condition. Went through the process to ensure I was qualified to buy the vehicle prior to going to dealership as its quite a distance for me to drive, contacted the dealership inquired on vehicle, the assured it was there and in good condition. However when I went to the dealership to purchase, it had almost 4k miles more than what was advertised, there was food and debris still in the seats and center console. There was a huge hole in the bumper and significant scratches not from normal wear and tear but clearly there was an incident/accident or major abuse. The advertised package didn't mention that the sun shades had all been ripped out for the exception of 1. The molding in the storage area was loose and coming off the body of the car, the window seals were coming off, the heated seat didn't work, the alignment was horrible that it pulled so hard to the right you knew the steering was going to go. The car was filthy but with some amoral sprayed over to make it "look" clean. And the dealerships solution to make sure it was cleaned and detailed before it left!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME... the blatant lies and misleading from this dealership and its management is deplorable. I would not recommend ANYONE going here, while we were there another couple was leaving due to unhappy service. MIND YOU THEY LOWERED THE PRICE OF THE VEHICLE ON THERE WEBSITE BUT STILL HAVE THE WRONG MILEAGE LISTED!!! AFTER THEY WERE MADE AWARE _ CLEARLY THESE ARE THE SLIME xxxxx OF CAR DEALERS!!! DON'T GO THERE!!*****UPDATE*******After this post I called the dealership to reiterate my disdain. I spoke with JAMES KING who stated he was unaware of the car and the problems, (Mind you the phone call I placed isn't even 24hrs after this incident took place) HOWEVER HE was the one who came out from the little closed off box to try and convince my husband to still buy the car. AGAIN ANOTHER LIE!!!

Better late than never to let San Diegans known about the terrible treatment my son and I received in 2005. Toyota San Diego had the only green Scion XB at that moment in San Diego. My son wanted this vehicle, so Father and Son head over to buy it. The sales man was great but Jeff Stein and his assistant come over to finalize the deal. Since my son was buying the car I told Jeff S. and his assistant Manager we only want the car and nothing added to the set price especially when we deal with the finance office. Jeff says to us ok the Scion XB and warranty they said this over and over to us. I had no idea what they were doing when they said warranty. I thought they meant the warranty that comes with the car 3 yr or 36000 miles. I said yes just the car and thinking why are they saying warranty that comes from Toyota with every new car. In the finance office all of a sudden the price is $1500.00 higher. I get very surprised and shocked and ask why. The gal says that's for the extended warranty that you agreed to buy. I'm very upset and say I never agreed to a extended warranty. I demand to see Jeff Stein and ask him why he tried to trick us to buy something that I explicitly told him that my son didn't need. Jeff was afraid to talk to me so he sent the assistant manger. I asked him why did you treat us this way, all he said was don't buy the extended warranty. I said that's not what I'm asking you, Jeff Stein and you pulled a fast one on my son, answer why you did this and I said I want an apology from Jeff. The assistant now had a very bad attitude toward me and said no apology we didn't do anything wrong. I said ok I'm making a complaint to Toyota Corporate about your low sales tactics after we buy this car. He leaves the office comes back very quickly and says that Jeff Stein won't sell my son the car. I ask why he says that his salesman and the dealership won't receive their bonus for the month if a customer makes a complaint. My son and I confront Jeff Stein and ask him to sell the car to us, Jeff says I'm protecting my salesman, they will lose all their bonus money for all the Scions sold for this month just for one complaint. Then he told me to leave the property. The next day I get a call from the salesman that helped us at Toyota San Diego and asks me why I didn't buy the car. He had no idea about what happened he was shocked, he said don't worry I'll get Jeff Stein to sell you the car. Five minutes later he calls back and very sheepishly says I'm sorry I can't sell you the car goodbye. I called another dealer and ask them to sell my son the green Scion. They call me back and say at the present time Toyota San Diego is the only dealer in San Diego that has one. Then the salesman says that TOSD will not trade cars and he said they don't trade with any dealer. He said all the local dealers will trade cars but not TOSD. After my son got off work he and a friend drive to West Covina Toyota and buy the car because they were the closet dealer that had one. The sales people there were very friendly and told my son that they sell cars with the lowest prices. This is called volume sales the dealership makes a little profit on every car but sells a lot of cars per month and this way they make their profit. Then he said that Scions are the exception because every dealer has to sell that brand at the same price. There is no haggling over price because they already have a bare bones price. This dealership treated my son excellently without any problems. I did call Toyota Corporate and told them what happened, the rep told me that concealing the extended warranty the way Jeff Stein did was very close to committing a crime. He asked me if he could locate the car my son wanted, I told him we already got it. He then said that he gets a lot of complaints for Toyota San Diego . Back to the present time my wife wants a crossover SUV so on 5/4/2013 I call 3 Toyota dealers including Toyota San Diego talk to the salesman about the RAV4 and ask if Jeff Stein still works there as general manager he says yes, so I told him what happened to me. I ask him to see if he remembers me. The salesman calls back and tells me that Jeff Stein didn't remember me. I tell the salesman I won't be going to this place because Jeff Stein still runs it !

I call Laaaarrry and explained to him what had happened. He promised to follow up and call me back. He never even talked to my mother in law while she was there and never called me back. He said that he gave her 1/2 the labor cost but he jacked the price of the part up. What a tool. Renee is the reason I am writing this review. She is an amazing sales woman with the utmost respect for what you want in a vehicle. She paid attention to every request I had, showed me all the options, and respected every decision I made. I suggest you ask for her immediately! Tell her I told you to :) She made car shopping a manageable experience (unlike some other dealers in the area).

Buying a new car should be a fun and exciting experience, unfortunately with Toyota of San Diego it definitely was not.The sales experience was OK at best. Jeff P. was the salesman and seemed eager to say whatever I wanted to hear to get me to make a purchase. I later found out that he made bogus claims about fuel economy features of the vehicle and with gas prices like they are these days this is a huge disappointment. As I was buying a used vehicle, I had him write some paint repair into the contract using a process he described that would make a huge improvement in the scratched panels. I will say that he gave me a great deal on my trade, but was barely willing to budge on the sticker price. I left the dealership that night with a good feeling about my purchase, but not great. It was all downhill from there.3 days later, a day after Jeff P. said he would call I was contacted by the dealership to setup an appointment to have the paint repaired. I brought the vehicle in the next day and left it for them to work on all day. I returned at about 5pm that night and the service manager handed my keys back and said "Sorry, nothing we can do about it, better talk to your salesperson." They didn't even attempt a repair, not a single thing that was described to me during the purchase process was carried out. I walked back into the dealership looking for my salesperson who was nowhere to be found. I asked the front desk for a manager and they called one who after 10 minutes never appeared. By chance Jeff P. happened to call the front desk while I was standing there and I was able to talk to him. I was assured he would handle it first thing in the morning and he would call me to reschedule. By the next evening, I hadn't received a call so I called the dealership and got him on the phone once again, he explained he hadn't forgotten about me and would call later that night. He never got back to me.The next morning I went back to the dealership and asked for a manager, after waiting around for another 10 minutes one finally showed up. Ross came out and inspected my vehicle and told me that it would be a very involved process to fix the scratches, which is what I was told from the start and why I had it written into my contract. He clearly didn't want to deal with my issues and after 20 minutes of back and forth he agreed to elevate the issue to another manager. Again, I had to wait for a call back.I was actually called back the next day, on time, by Ross. He told me their paint guy would be in the following Friday between 9am and 12pm, and I was to call Matt, the service manager, to setup an appointment and they would do their best to fulfill the terms of our contract. Friday rolled around and I called exactly when instructed, I was told by the switchboard that Matt was at the dealership, but not at his desk. I left a message explaining the situation and all of my contact information making sure to let him know I needed to be there by noon to meet with their paint guy. Once again, there was no call back. This has all taken place over the past 2 weeks and I'm sick of it. I do want compensation for the broken terms of the contract, but I don't want Toyota of San Diego touching my vehicle. At this point I have no recourse but to post reviews and spread my experience. I highly suggest using a different dealership as this one, across all departments, has zero concern for the customer after the sale and apparently has no problems lying to make a deal.*****UPDATE*****It's been about a month and a half and since I bought my truck and I finally got the dealership to make good on their contract. The general manager, Bernie Perri, contacted me directly and was willing to do whatever it took to make me happy with my purchase. I wasn't thrilled about having to go back to the dealership, especially after my initial review, so we worked out a deal to have the work completed by a third party and Toyota San Diego would foot the bill. Bernie was very responsive to all of my communication and promptly sent me a check after I had the work done.

WARNING - if you don't want to deal with a bunch of 'snakes in the grass' like the sales reps at this dealership, pulling shady moves even over just $149, DO NOT come to Toyota of San Diego. We still couldn't believe a dealership this size would lie just to hike up the price, from what the sales manager had agreed on and whose words we though were gold, by another $149. We heard the sales manager was friendly and easy to work with, but to our disappointment he was also just as sleezy. This place does not have any business ethics so if you're looking for a dealership that is up-front, STAY AWAY (or be cautious if they send in the great white shark , Mu-Ha-Mud). When we realized we were paying an extra $149 for no added feature, simply because my dad liked the car and 'mu-a-mud' knew he can squeeze another $149 out of us, we confronted him. Sure enough he stumpled on his explanation just like being caught with his pant down. Don't mean to be that descriptive - our experience at Toyota of San Diego was that BAD.

I live in Las Vegas, and found a nice 2010 Insight on cars.com from Toyota San Diego. All the personnel I encountered were nice and helpful, and they made an out of state purchase easier than I expected. They gave me a very fair amount for my trade in, and again, overall the experience was excellent! I highly recommend buying from them!

We had spent all day of my first day off in 9 days shopping for a used vehicle. We had to purchase a vehicle because my boyfriend was starting a job the following day after having been laid off for 2 years. I had test driven a vehicle at another dealership and was waiting for a response from financing, when we decided to take a walk. There was a Chevy HHR parked in your lot which caught my eye. Thomas came up and greeted us and we explained that we were just looking while waiting for a response from another dealership. He invited us to come back if things didn't work out and handed us a card. Well, after several more hours the original dealership couldn't help us and it was getting late and we really needed a vehicle. We inquired as to the closest rental place and they said that Toyota San Diego had a Hertz. Well, I thought it had to be a sign.. Thomas invited us back and Hertz just happened to be there. I took a chance and have never been more happy. We went right up to Thomas, told him exactly what we had to work with and explained the most that I felt comfortable paying monthly. He introduced us to Eric who immediately began the paperwork. They showed us the Carfax and also showed us that there was a recall issue that had been taken care of and they showed us the paperwork for that as well as the results of the inspection and work done on the vehicle before it was put up for sale. The finance department was even able to get me a payment for less than I originally said that I wanted to pay. We were so happy. The entire process took about 2 hours. It was obvious to us that the entire staff was happy to be there. They were all friendly and genuinely caring. We were also impressed with Ying Pan, the finance manager. Not only was she beautiful, but she had a wonderful personality that really helped make a day that started out so horribly end on a really positive note. We are definitely lifelong customers. There is no reason for us to go anywhere else.

I told him what I was looking for and he then told me he had that exact truck and walked me straight to it. After getting back from driving the vehicle we went inside and he then showed me the best options for my purchase. The whole process was very easy and I did not have to wait a long time which surprised me due to the fact that I went on a Saturday. Thank you so much for my great experience and I would definitely recommend all of my family and friends to go deal with Michael McGrath.Gary

From the moment we walked onto the lot, we were treated as important consumers. Clinton and Alex were able to answer all of my questions regarding the Sienna (from colors, to options, to mileage, etc). I was pleased with Clinton's hard work in trying to get me the best price and APR possible with my credit. They both understood where I was "coming from" as a person and our need for a reliable, affordable vehicle for myself and my three young children. Tan explained the finance and various options in no, nonsense terms, and did not pressure me into purchase anything I wasn't comfortable with. Purchasing a new vehicle can can anxiety as well as excitement. However, Clinton and the rest of the Toyota crew did an excellent job in putting my mind at ease and I was able to drive away in a brand new vehicle!

I have been a loyal Toyota customer for my entire driving life. I am a huge fan of the company, and even am a stockholder. I originally owned a '99 4Runner that broke down after 150,000 miles, as the transmission went bad. Instead of paying $4k to replace the transmission, I decided to buy a newer 4Runner.I met with Rich Dowdy (used car sales, toyota san diego), and he showed me a nice 2006 4Runner. The only thing that I asked for as part of me buying the car, was that my new Satellite Radio, and Kicker speakers, and bluetooth, be transferred from my old 4Runner, to my new 4Runner, at no charge. He assured me this would happen. He gave me his handshake and his word. He said all I needed to do was set up an appointment with service, and get it switched. Two Saturdays later I showed up to my scheduled appointment at Toyota San Diego to get this done. I waited for over 2 hours, and was eventually told that they "could not find the keys" to my old 4Runner, and to call back and reschedule. Disappointed, as this wasted my Saturday morning, I rescheduled. Unfortunately, when I came back, it was explained to me that my car had already been sold off, and that the stereo and speakers were not taken out.I tried to contact Rich Dowdy for months afterwards to rectify this, even showing up 3 times in person. He kept ignoring me, not returning phone calls or emails. When I finally spoke to him, he said that he could not help me - that it was too far after the fact. Due to the fact that it was not "in the paperwork" of the purchase, they could not even give me an equivalent stereo or speakers. As a consolation he offered to "fill up my tank of gas." What a slap in the face. This is a guy that gave me a handshake, looked me in the eye and told me that it would get done with no problem. There was no mistake about what was agreed upon. Months later, I am SOL. His word means nothing, and I highly suggest that anyone dealing with this individual go elsewhere. Now, I'm not the type of person that ever posts on these websites. But I was absolutely deceived by Rich, and I feel that anyone thinking of making a purchase from him should think twice. As for Toyota San Diego, they should think seriously about whether they want to keep someone who has such a lack of integrity. For a dealership that I think does a lot of things right, Rich Dowdy really spoiled the experience.

Since then, I do ask for Mr. Anthony to be my service person because I feel he will make sure my car gets all the good service that it should have. I now have another 4 runner, an "06" and I still ask for Mr. Anthony to be my service person. I trust him and his judgement on the service that my toyota needs, and everything has always been good that's been done to my car. And, oh Yes...I do drive all the way from Pacific Beach to Toyota of San Diego because I know I WILL get my car serviced to the best it can be. I've never had anything but good service for many years. Thank You for your good service to my car and I will be back and recommend Toyota of San Diego and Mr. Mark Anthony. Ms. L. John was very courteous and attentive. Very professional! I have been a customer of this dealership for 18 years and have never had a problem with the service or staff. Everyone does what they say they will do, and they do it with a smile. I have purchased two autos from this dealership. Both purchases have been trouble-free. They make me feel that they are working with me, not against me. They did not have the car that I desired when I came in for my most recent purchase. They searched the county, found the car and had it delivered while we waited in the showroom and filled-out the paperwork. It was completely hassle-free. I will purchase my next car from them.

I have been going to Toyota of San Diego for over ten years. I have enjoyed going to them because of their great service dept. I have always gotten prompt service with quality work. With their new remodel the waiting areas are very comfortable with well put together work areas. John is very informed as to what needs to be done and is very close to the time it will take. I will continue to go to Toyota of San Diego because of people like John Levy that make it very easy to get the service I need.

I came in on a busy day expecting to wait a very long time for an oil change. John came came out and got the process started right away. He had me in and out within a half hour. He also went above and beyond and repaired a tire that he noticed had a screw in it. I will defiantly give 100% of my business to John.

Both Q and Eddie were very helpful when it was decided my 1997 Camry had "terminal" problems. Eddie met us on Sunday afternoon and spent time listening to what I wanted and providing answsers to my question. Q has always been more than helpful during the past 20+ years that I have using this agency for my driving needs. Thank you. Karen Ruiz

I have been to this dealership several times and have always been impressed with the quality of the service. John is no exception. After frequenting several other Toyota dealerships, I can say with confidence that this one makes a point of emphasizing customer care. The service guys take the time to explain what your car needs and will give you a chance to ask any questions you might have. They never make you feel rushed, ignorant, or taken advantage of. I have always loved, loved, loved my Tacoma and now I can say the same for the service department that takes care of my baby! Thanks guys!

Have been taking our vehicles,(2002 Tundra, 2003 Sequoia, 2009 Tacoma)to this dealership for 8 years for service, working with John Levy as our service advisor. John has always been honest and accommodating in each and every visit. He has taken the time to listen and direct our concerns in regard to our vehicles to the proper technicians for the appropriate service. I have recommended this dealership and service advisor, John Levy, to numerous friends for service on their Toyota vehicles.

I have switched to Toyota San Diego for good for servicing my 4Runner after my first experience there. John Levy was my Service Advisor and he was absolutely awesome to work with and I was very pleased with the overall experience of taking my vehicle to Toyota San Diego. I have returned since then and see no reason to go elsewhere.

See my blog. http://mrsdoolittletoyou.blogspot.com/2010/09/prius-wars.htmlThe employees were rude, dishonest and clearly looking to take advantage. The fact that Bob Baker Toyota was able to do the deal in minutes demonstrates the fact that the other dealerships are crooks. I tell EVERYONE that Mossy and Toyota of SD were jerks and Bob Baker rocks.

Not only was this an excellent experience, but I was truly impressed with the friendliness of every person I've spoken to in my 3 visits to the dealership. I was most impressed when invited to a new owner program to see the shop areas and how well organized and CLEAN they are.The best part was that when "sealing the deal" I never felt pressured to accept anything. Throughout the buying process, I felt everything was explained to me, and again, if I didn't quite get it the first time. The follow up since the purchase of my vehicle has been more than expected as well. When I had a few small things I felt needed attention, they were taken care of immediately with no questions asked. Just truly fine service. When you buy a car from Toyota of San Diego, be sure to attend the new owners meeting, which by the way, includes dinner, and a great explanation of all the services to which you are entitled.

Over 15 years ago, I bought three Toyotas (Camry, Previa, Corolla) and a Lexus from New Cars, inc. Luckily for me, back in college, I had a room-mate who was a used car salesman. I learned early on, many of the tricks of the salesmen trade, thus avoiding them. I certainly understand the reviews of others experiencing common negative tactics, but remember, as commissioned employees, most are only doing what their sales managers instruct them to do. While all of my vehicles came from LA dealers, I have always had them serviced and bought parts for them at Toyota of San Diego and it's predecessor, Rose Toyota. I have always been pleasantly greeted and treated well at this dealership. I do, however, maintain an advantage over the average customer in that I have worked on many vehicles myself for over forty years. So, when I visit a car dealership for service and parts, I usually know what is needed ahead of my visit. Much like visiting a MD for your own health, one needs to have at least a basic a basic understanding of how your car or personal body works. Now that I am a senior citizen, I greatly appreciate others doing now what I used to do.I remember seeing a program advertised for new car purchasers that offered free lunch with a seminar on car basics.Afterwards, it even included a few primary oil changes. While I never needed that info, it was always great to see that this dealership went out of it's way to help those who might need a little help.I have recommended this dealership to many friends for service and repair, as I really haven't experienced their sales staff experience. I have met both the General and Service mangers, and recommend anyone speak directly to them for a fast andpersonal response.Sincerely, David "Santa" Williams

Ultimately, I went to a different Toyota Dealership. Toyota of San Diego did not have the SUV I was looking for because of high demand and low supply. They tried to find me the SUV I was looking for, but they were unable to get the car from another dealership nearby. My biggest gripe would be that they should have told us that they could not make this deal happen because of the unique circumstances. After a couple of days of no car, I ended up calling another near by Toyota Dealership, and was told that they had 4 SUVs for me to look at (including the very model that the Toyota of San Diego tried to get me but could not seal the deal on). They did not hide the fact that this would be difficult for them to do, and did ask for time to make this deal happen. But considering that this SUV was in high demand/low supply and that the deal to get a car for 0% APR for 60 months was about to end, they should have given me the phone numbers to the other dealerships that did have the SUV but were not interested in selling or trading their stock to Toyota of San Diego. And god bless the salesman who was working with us, but he was brand new and out of his element. Not a good combination because I would have missed out on either the car I wanted or the deal I was trying to get.

On June 14, I phoned San Diego Toyota on Mission Gorge Road, following up on a newspaper ad. Salesman Kong Nguyen, who identified himself as a delearship manager, took my phone call. He put my call on hold, so that he could check whether the agency had the silver Rav-4 I wanted at the price I'd seen advertised in the newspaper. Yes, he promised, there was one on the lot. I was on hold again while he did the math on an out the door price including tax, license and other fees. We agreed Id pay a total of $22,185.30 for my new silver Rav-4. I told him I'd be right out to buy it. I emptied my old car, in case the Toyota dealership wanted it as a trade-in, and drove out to Mission Gorge Road on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to get my new car. Since we only have one day off together, my husband went with me. We asked for Kong. He wasn't available; others offered to help. Nguyen actually materialized for about one minute -- then disappeared. My husband and were jerked around for about two hours before it finally became clear to us that Nguyen had lied. The dealership didnt have the silver Rav-4 at the price Nguyen had offered. He outright lied.If this sounds like no big deal -- then it means you accept that it's ok for car dealerships to outright lie to customers and steal their most valuable commodity: time.
